    1:35 I tend to drag in one of my main A-roll clips first to set the frame rate. Then if I drag in other clips later, such as from a microscope camera, drone or DV footage from an old camcorder, then the timeline is already correctly set for the main footage.

    Thanks for the information, I appreciate your tutorials. I have used Live Save and realized that if you want to go back in your edit history to undo a change you've made, it can't be undone. I have made it a habit to save more frequently and also save a new copy occasionally so that if I DO screw something up, I can go back to the previous version. I usually do this by renaming versions so I know which is which, (version letter or number). Also, they are usually listed chronologically.

    thanks for the tip on Dynamic Zoom; i've often come up with that weird border trying to use ease (and then altering the curve on the Fusion Page).

    Thanks for the information. The backups info was particularly useful so I can (hopefully) move projects between computers if I need to

      Also look into normal resolve project files! Those are an option to export and work a bit different

    Thanks for these tips. I didn't know about the autosave with 18. I have been on 17 for a bit and haven't updated due to the fear of losing my projects which you also helped cover.

    Ayyyyeee your tips are really helpful thank you for putting these out. I'm still learning about Davinci Resolve and ways to speed up my work!

    Thanks for the video. Didn't know about the problems with dynamic zoom. What would be great is if there were a way to create several dynamic zoom "templates" that could be applied from clip to clip. For example, suppose you are making a slide show with 30 different still photos. One template could be zoom in, and then you could drag that on to however many still photos you want to zoom in. Same for zoom out, crane up, crane down, etc., Maybe there is a way to do this already? I have asked on the BMD forums and haven't receive an answer that actually works.

    As a quick note, on Mac keyboards, the "backspace" is labeled delete. It functions like the backspace so it just deletes without the ripple. I was a bit confused when you said Delete causes a ripple, until you said Backspace, a key Macs do not have. Although some older keyboards did label it with a back arrow.

    Hey Patrick! great info. I'm working on a rather long short and would like to separate and store each scene/timeline by itself to be added back to the timeline in proper sequence when all scenes are complete. I'm wondering what would be the best procedure to do that?

    DaVinci resolve needs to be able to prompt you on how to use certain effects when you choose them and not just leave it up to user memory to know how to use each effect.

      They have a free 4000 page user manual! adding that natively into the program would be a lot

    • @Bi0Dr01d
      @Bi0Dr01d Рік тому +1

      @@PatrickStirling I mean to say they should have something live in real time within DaVinci resolve as you are using a given feature that informs you while you're using it precisely so that you do not have to go to a 4,000 page user manual.
      I'm saying that the software should be intuitive enough that a person continues his normal business in the software and is guided to do what he wants to do by prompts within the software that inform him as he goes along. In other words, the software itself trains people.
      You pick an effect, The software tells you "In order to use this effect, go to this section and press this button". Etc...

      I think there are simply too many things Resolve can do for anything like that to be comprehensive. I could maybe see an optional expanded tutorial for new users covering some of the very basics, but also wouldn't hold my breath for that.
      I've got some interesting ideas for something kinda along these lines for something I could make inside fusion though!

    • @Bi0Dr01d
      @Bi0Dr01d Рік тому

      @@PatrickStirling I didn't think that DaVinci resolve had something like this, but I'm making mention of it so that something like that could be possible. DaVinci resolve only improves when new ideas arise, and if DaVinci resolve would allow users to do this, then every time a person makes a new effect and shares their effect, these instructive prompts would be shared as well, and enough new effects would make this feature a normal part of the user experience.
      The makers of resolve don't themselves have to create those prompts, but if they can allow users to create prompts for their own effects, then there would be plenty of manpower to bring this to fruition

    Just so you know, I'm not going to watch any video where they try to use "The Tucker Carlson Face™" to make me think someone (Black Magic Design) is doing me wrong and you are going to tell me the "REAL TRUTH™." That expression conveys a smugness that is almost always untrustworthy.

    • @PatrickStirling
      @PatrickStirling  Рік тому

      bahaha wow I'll never look at this expression the same way again. I need to find a new confused face. it's tough out here trying to get those clicks. 🙃 I know the actual info can be super helpful, always just trying to get it in front of as many people as possible 👍

    • @GrantSR
      @GrantSR Рік тому

      @@PatrickStirling Just use an expression that shows you are happy to be showing me new info. Or proud that you figured out something difficult. If you are still confused by the time you are making the thumbnail, why should anyone watch the video? I, personally, want to see videos by people who are NOT confused. 🤷
      Maybe it's just me, but I am more likely to watch a video if the thumbnail tells me more about the topic of the video than the portion of the title that shows up in the app on my tablet. Just a picture of your face (regardless of expression 😉) and a teeny-tiny screenshot really tells me nothing. Something like, "How to XXX, and more!" is far more likely to get me to click through.
      Fortunately, you can always change the thumbnail, even after you've published.
