I'm always glad to find out that a featured home has survived. For some reason, I was particularly glad to see that this one is still standing, and still beautiful. Thank you for featuring this house.
I am a born and raised native of Indianapolis. And I have driven by this house my whole life and never knew the history until now. Thank you for the lesson
We went to the 107th Indy500 in May. It was awesome! We didn’t get to explore at all because Indianapolis is hard to get around during race week. I wish I could have visited the house. Thank for sharing what I missed👍🏻
I think this is my favorite of all the houses you have shown us (so far). I do want to mention that the "pressed leather" on the walls is probably a product called "Lincrusta", made from linseed oil and (I believe) sawdust. You can stain it to look like wood/leather or it is paintable. The company is still in production today, and was very popular in the turn of the century. Looks great in that house, an alternative to carved wood.
THE AVIARY!!! OH KEN, YOU FOUND MY DREAM HOME! Architecture, History, Car History and Birds....everything I do! LOL. THANKS for all your work and showing us these amazing places! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! ❤❤❤
Gorgeous home! Thanks for sharing. I believe the fireplace in the library is Rookwood Pottery from Cincinnati. I think you may have pronounced it as Rockwood. Thanks again!
@davideliwhite Thank you for so graciously pointing out the mispronunciation of one of the greatest ceramics works in American history, Rookwood. Much more kind and considerate than what occurred to me when I heard this jarring "Rockwood." To my ears, it was like hearing the famous American literary name of "Melville" pronounced "Malveel!" But then again, I admittedly am a stickler for detail. As the master architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, once said, however: "God is in the details!"
The narrative touched lightly on this family's connection to Allison's, which was a HUGE Cheevrolet plant on the near west side of Indy. It's official name was Detroit Diesel Allison Plant and for years, it was one of the biggest employers in Indy. In addition, one of the Allison ladies married into the Eli Lilly family. At one point the Lilly mansion was sold to IU and it (along with several other similar mansions) still stands on Sunset Lane and backs up to White River. My aunt was housekeeper there for several years and her private apartment was bugger than my whole house. We're talking the cream of Indy's society.
@joantrainor6584 Me too! That Rookwood fireplace ceramic surround alone won me over. But the additional exceptional detailing clinches the deal! Thanks for your comment!
Speaking of Indiana, have you done a video on Richmond, Indiana? It's got an interesting history. Lots of mansions around the turn of the 19th century because both the Star Piano Company and Gennette Records had headquarters there. Now Richmond is a bit run down but it's full of grand mansions. Quite the contrast.
Given his affinity for the automobile, it's no surprise that he puts the porte cochere right smack dab in the front of the mansion rather than the traditional location hidden away on the side of the house.
At one point a psychiatrist was using this place the place gave off a vibe of always being watched and i kept hearing footsteps in empty halls and years after i moved away i came upon a atricle about how the place is haunted possibly due to the death of mr allison's daughter in the basement pool when she drowned in the pool some say you can hear the screames in the rooms near the pool room and can be heard at the exit for the pools drain near the back of the property

So interesting. Another architectural work of art. I am so glad it was preserved. Thanks!
Here on Cape Cod, while growing up, every July we'd disassemble our beds & reassemble them on our screened in porch, for summer sleeping. Thanks, Ken!
👍 Interesting exterior detailing.

I had to look it up. I've been in a hotel with it. So amazing it's been made for so long.
Coffee and Kens voice for breakfast. Excellent 🙏☺️
My favorite style of home
Thank you
I luv your videos so much! A little bit of history, art and culture all in one.
The sleeping porch was my favorite! I also love the porte cochere.

Just a gorgeous house! Also enjoyed the history about the house and Indy 500. Thank you for sharing 💜
The stained glass ceiling in the aviary is beautiful!
Terrific report!
Fascinating! Would have LOVED to seen his wife’s special room for her birds when he and his wife were living there!
the light in the entryway! ❤

Absolutely gorgeous, very nice home.
The library is the best.

It looks like a prairie-style home.
@BanBiofuels That immediately occurred to me, too! Do you think that Frank Lloyd Wright might have ever seen this house?
Lovely mansion I’ve been to often for events.
fantastic house- definitely shows Prairie style influence
This home is on the campus of my alma mater, Marian University. I have spent a lot of time near and at this mansion during my undergraduate years.
Amazing home! I loved all of it, especially the library. Do we know who the architect was for this home!
those andirons in the smoking room!!!
Wonderful as usual. Wondering if u can do a video on the John G Wendel House

No pictures of the kitchen????

Where is the rest of the house? The grounds?
Thats the spirit. Give away your fortune to help other people.
Bezos and Musk , are you listening?
Nothing in that home looks to be the least bit comfortable. As they say, there is no accounting for taste.
