    ---
Welcome to the Martial Arts Journey UA-cam channel!
My name is Rokas. I'm a Lithuanian guy who trained Aikido for 14 years, 7 of them running a professional Aikido Dojo until eventually I realized that Aikido does not live up to what it promises.
Lead by this realization I decided to make a daring step to close my Aikido Dojo and move to Portland, Oregon for six months to start training MMA at the famous Straight Blast Gym Headquarters under head coach Matt Thornton.
After six months intensive training I had my first amateur MMA fight after which I moved back to Lithuania. During all of this time I am documenting my experience through my UA-cam channel called "Martial Arts Journey".
Now I am slowly setting up plans to continue training MMA under quality guidance and getting ready for my next MMA fight as I further document and share my journey and discoveries.

I would probably have not realised what was being suggested until pretty late myself (except for the fact that it was a scenario). Like I have legit been told I have been on dates before and not realised it was a date. That would make it much harder to stay safe in this scenario.

Yes running away is usually the best self defense. But deescalation is just as important and being able to calm people down. Having worked as a security guard I solved 90% of all “threatening” situations with talking calm but strict. One thing they have not touched on yet is a thing that happened when I was working at a hospital as a security guard late at night. I found a drug addict in the church room and he was sleeping and I could see he was high as fuck with needles everywhere. I was going to remove him out of the hospital when I noticed he had a machete just beside him. So instead of taking him out myself i locked him in the room and called the police and waited for them to bring him out. Locking someone in and wait for assistance is also very good in self defense situations.

@@chadlpnemtInjuries from my last professional fight in 2011 left me with memory loss (as well as partially blind, and with a hole in my forehead) I’ve seen a lot of doctors, none of them helped. I forgot friends, training partners, coaches, whole segments of my life. A big part of why I kept my UA-cam channel going after that fight was to catalog experiences and thoughts so I wouldn’t forget them.
All the sleep deprivation certainly didn’t help. The dudes taking potshots at my head when my eyes were closed certainly didn’t help.
When I say it’s spooky, I mean it. I watched my grandmother devolve into dementia to the point where she didn’t know who I was anymore. The third scenario is genius I'm glad they include it.
I remember in my time when I was a lab assistant in the forensic lab at the University.
Sometimes female students or suppliers would go to the lab where I have my desk and when I was alone to avoid any kind of problem I opened all the windows and the the double doors and make sure to put the chair on the range of the security cameras.

I legit would be terrified if it happened because a) I am sure I would miss so many cues that I would end up in a scary position and b) I am in a true no win scenario in a lot of ways. Icy Mike did an excellent job getting out of it. That scenario, or variations of it, do happen much more often than people think, and even in online versions.
I've been in a similar scenario virtually, where no possibility of accusations of contact could be made, but not physically. In my case, I reminded the person that I was already in a relationship and she got defensive, but stopped her advance. I think that an issue in the first scenario is the unexpectedness that should not be there honestly. It would have been better to present her as a tinder first date than their girlfriend: by presenting her as their girlfriend people had unreasonable expectations to know her. They would know if she was the kind of person to start a fight. If you contextualize a girl as my girlfriend I do not consider the possibility that she would go on to start a fight, because she would not be my girlfriend - or at the very least I would have been aware of this tendency.

@@TotalWannabe Of course, the point is that however context matters: I do not act in the same way if I am with my mother or my girlfriend or my sister - very different people in terms of physical capabilities and behavior.
The trick in the scene to get 5 points was to understand that the issue in the scene was your girlfriend behavior as much as the provoker. This part was made unfairly difficult by tricking the competitors in thinking that they knew well the person walking with them in the movie theater, presenting her as their girlfriend.
If you tell me that this person is my girlfriend I do not think I have to protect a rude person by her physical attacks - or at least I think I would know it if that was a real risk. Everyone posed themselves to protect her by the attacker and made the mistake of ignoring the possibility that she would go there attacking him - but that was due to the context in which they presented the scene.

@@bobon123 even so, in my own experience, until you spent years with somebody, you can't be always sure how (s)he is going to behave. And even then, it's sometimes still a gamble

I think the idea was to give them some kind of incentive to also worry about their date, if that was a "stranger" they'd all just leave lol

Jeff Phillip's #1 rule of self defense is the same as the #1 rule of survival as Les Stroud Survivor Man puts it. You are responsible for yourself in a survival situation. Nobody depends on another. That said it was far easier w a companion than alone.

1st dude did his job perfectly, de-escalated the situation and moved on, violence if you're the aggressor, isn't self defence
