Building a Huge Door for the Workshop: Tiny Timber Frame Pt 9
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- The door is on! In this video, I build a ledged and framed barn sized door with a smaller door housed inside. The frame is built with traditional mortise and tenon joinery which the shiplap boards are attached to. The door is held in place by huge 42” strap hinges. As usual, most of the work is done with hand tools.

A piece of gold was made 👏👏👏
Great work. Just seeing this series now. This episode reminded me of a quote from on of Roy Underhill's books, "cheap wood, expensive joint!"
Very very nice work as always!!!👌👌👌👍👍👍💯💯💯
All manual of any thing , that is a very good work and perfect
Thanks, Rohmat!
Nice work! Those hinges are amazing
reminds me of the New England lumber schooners of the late 19th century, known for their impeccably crafted front doors.
So good, Nic!
Thanks, dude!
Beautiful ❤️ the most important thing! Very nice! You made it look so easy!
Hey Nic. Love your Channel. The timber frame is really insightful. Maby you should show us how you built your English workbench. Do a tour maby. Regards
I can relate to taking a board outside to turn it around 😁
haha, small shop problems…
@@NicTaylorWoodworking try a 7ft high ceiling 😆
Thank you so much for this display of conspicuous craftsmanship.
All of your amazing joinery skills, all of the time that was required to acquire the skills to build this simple object. Wow.
I’m blown away.
Thanks, Isaac! Cheers!
I get excited when ever I see you uploaded something new. Great as usual. Thanks for sharing this project.
Thanks, Johan!
Super impressive man
Thanks!
thank you for the video. All the episodes from this playlist are very interesting
Glad you like them!
Wow man that is one massive door. The title didn't lie 🤣 your hand tool skills are exceptional.
I’m honestly surprised this one worked 😂
Well done mr Nick! Django is gonna love his new puppy house 😉🐶🥰
Haha, a normal dog house simply wouldn’t do
@@NicTaylorWoodworking it look big enough for me come visit and we can do’s activities in there 🥰🐶 me and Django do lots zoomies and chase squeak balls and stuff 🎾🥰🐶
Good job Nic. Love this project! Satisfying..
Thanks! glad you’re liking it
I watched all of your shop build videos, and they're great! I can't wait to see what you do on the inside of your shop!
Glad you’re enjoying them! I have a lot of ideas for projects once the shop is done. Stoked to finally have a roof over my head!
Well done.
Thanks!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Such nice tools
It’s amazing how much these simple tools can accomplish
It’s inspiring watching just one person accomplish so much. Nice work!
Thanks! It feels good to push your own limits with some projects.
Crazy killer door build! Like that its off the shelf dimensional lumber. I'm surprised you didn't finish it before you put that awesome hardware on and hung?
Another great video, nice work on the door! It's great to see the channel has been growing so much, your video quality and content are fantastic!
Thanks, Ryan! I can’t believe how many folks are checking out the channel lately. I’m very fortunate to be able to share these builds with you all!
Get this kid an M18 Milwaukee tool sponsorship! ;)
haha 😂
Great job!
Thanks!
Holy crap, Nic! That's looking amazing! And you can saw straight! (Some people are impressed with big doors, other with a skill like sawing straight. But it is a beautiful door!)
Haha, thanks, Thomas! There are definitely days I can’t saw straight to save my life
@@NicTaylorWoodworking True, we can't see the pile of wonky boards you had to discard 😃
Great work!
Thanks!
The woodwork is great but, wow, whoever is filming and editing has that down. Really well paced edits, shots are all well balanced...seriously, quality stuff!
Thanks! I’m definitely still learning a lot, but I’m happy to hear that the filming and story is coming through. Cheers!
Nice
Thanks
That door is massive! And you did it all alone, as usual. One question: is that top hinge not getting in the way of possible window trim? Great work!
Good point.
It’s a big one for sure! I actually don’t think I’ll be putting any window trim on, but yes, it would likely get in the way if I were. Thanks for watching!
素晴らしいです。
Thanks!
💖
Mic, what state are you in? Seems like a peaceful area.
Am I right that the floor went in between last video and this one? I am interested to know how you did it. I.e. Is it tongue and groove structural floorboards? face nailed? And did you make them or buy them? Awesome work by the way, I'm very inspired to build something similar 😊
Yep, it’s tongue and grove. I actually purchased ready made stuff from a local lumber yard. Didn’t seem quite exciting enough for a video. Cheers!
Love the videos! Quick question, where did you acquire the adjustable buck saw? Did you build it? If so, how to video would be awesome. Thanks
I made the saw, but it’s not my design. Checkout Blackburn Tools. They sell parts and plans for frame saws and also have a video on how to build them. www.blackburntools.com/new-tools/media-and-related/dvd-build-your-own-classic-frame-saws/index.html
Awesome. Thank you. Keep the content coming!!
Hey Nic. Lovely workmanship. I was surprised to see no diagonal braces, particularly on the small inset door. Can I ask what your thinking was there?
Time! haha.i’m going to be adding diagonal braces to both the large and smaller door. I was rushed for time and wanted to get the video uploaded before I was out of town for a few weeks.
Did that case come with the auger bits?
Yup! I was super lucky to find a full set on craigslist years ago
@@NicTaylorWoodworking Nice! Where are you out of? I'm in Tulsa, it's big enough for my taste, but not super big for a lot of selection on much online stuff.
@@shaungarbry88 I’m in Tennessee now, but lived in Seattle when I found the bits. Much more stuff online in a big city like that, but I feel like it’s easier to find random tools at antique shops now that I’m in Tennessee
@@NicTaylorWoodworking yeah that's where I have amassed the hand tools I have too.
How you put your planes down,is as important as your dill bits
More because they are more sharp
But not as important as how you put down the saw
👍🏾😎
Thanks, Arno!
The timbers in your shop; what wood?
T.I.A.
It’s made of Southern Yellow Pine
Honest!
Thanks, Jeff!
