  • Today we finally got the Defender steering via the steering wheel. It only took moving an entire building to get to that point.
    But the real project to tackle was getting the factory dashboard in place so we can start gathering parts for our custom built piece that will go in its place.

    Your a genius sir. It's really fun to watch you think out loud and explain where your heading with this build. Very cool project . Thanks for sharing your journey .

    Wow custom dash, didn’t see that one coming but seeing the original RHD dash panel is more rust than metal, a totally new one is absolutely the best option. A fancy centre console built into the dash sounds an awesome idea, as this will allow you greater flexibility with regards to what infotainment unit you decide to go with, plus a whole lot more room to hide all of the additional ECU’s and fuse boxes etc. Hope you have plenty of cardboard, because I think you might just need it. Looking forward to seeing it progress into an amazing new dashboard. Keep up the great work 😎👍

      I'm hoping that it is the right direction to go. In my head it works out haha. But I think it will solve a lot of problems.

    100% I would also be sitting in the seat like you imagining what it will be like to finally drive this beauty. And at 5'6" (~168cm), I would probably have a similar seating position. It's almost like you're building it for me... 🤔😆

      It’s like you have to haha.
      And I’m 5’6” as well so maybe haha.

      I'm 5'6" too and my truck cab is cramped , I don't know how taller folk can drive them .
      Good thing with a truck cab is it heats up nicely in the winter 🙂.

    I would be sitting closer lol, I do like the idea of the TD5 radio area and making use of the area above the transmission tunnel, you might be able to fit a few more things in there too like ecm etc.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  9 місяців тому

      That’s what I was thinking as well. Some extra room to hide bits behind there. It’s really going to fall on what air conditioning setup I land on.

    It’s great to know you have an idea in your head Joe. I fear at times it might be like mine though - sometimes what is in my head does not transfer to my hands and eyes and what is produced is well…….. not what my head had planned 😳.

      I’ve never had that happen, not even once haha. Ok maybe I’m lying. Sometimes the mind is more ambitious than the skills allow.

    I really like the Central Stack idea for the Dash! You should Build out a basic Counsel and stash as much as you can in there! And the new tablet style radios are so thin so you should be able to mount it High and have some room behind for some Ducting! Remeber the "Ball Chiller/Clam breezer" Vent! I mean nothing would say Kustom with a K like adding that!

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  9 місяців тому +1

      Got to have the ball chiller haha. And yes being you don't have to account for a CD anymore some of the radio stuff is pretty low pro. But yeah the center stack coming out in an extended version of the TD5 style should help things a lot.

    you can buy a heater and ac unit all in one in the uk which would solve all your problems rather than but the bottom dash unit on this is a much better idea not sure of the name of it though but they do have a youtube video if i remeber

    just a thought from a noob... if you lift the back part of the seat say... 1 inch, wouldn't it be more comfy and having like the LR4 style seating? or are you planning diff seats?

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  9 місяців тому +1

      The seats will be similar but they are different. Just using the ones that were in it to test it out. I’m going to have to get the roof back on and a taller person in to really see the whole picture.
      At my size I have loads of room all over.

    • @julianenglar
      @julianenglar 9 місяців тому

      @@LostCauseRanch there’s definitely plenty of room! Just thought of a more squared seating than the back mushed down. Your projects are awesome man! Always fun to see your channel
