I am 99% sure you guys showed the wrong bill, you showed the bill of the restaurant "Gavião novo" when you finished eating at "O tasco" easy to spot it if you can read Portuguese :D
I have a 2-part question. Did you find the cost to get to Madeira & stay there, fairly affordable? Did you find it very touristy, and was that reflected in the cost of the food? 😊
I'm being serious, this is world class. I've seen thousands and thousands of videos since 2005 when youtube began and I honestly don't recall watching videos with this level of production. Even from production studios. There are huge channels on youtube with many people working behind the scenes and the videos they produce don't catch my eye like this one did. I think this is your best so far. I don't want to sound exaggerated, but honestly I was really very impressed. Thank you for the great video and great vibe, it has awaken me from my day
@Prince London I wish some network would hire a project from them. Like a mini series by country would be ideal. Its informative and inspiring for who wants to travel. A mini series on Netflix, not a travel series or a cultural series, but an entertainment series that happens to be exploring areas. Just like they do with their channel. And very much like 'the grand tour' from amazon that do this kind of entertainment but reviewing cars while exploring areas around the world.
I'm so addictive to your videos. So is my hubby, cause I was laughing last night in my bedroom. And he came upstairs to see what was going on...love when Amalie swears 😜🤦♀️
Your faces eating the fried banana is SOOOO RELATABLE haha! 😍 It's indeed one of the best delicacies of the island! That and the poncha... Btw, I can't believe you drank it in one go, Joen! U MAD?! 😂
That banana was mind blowing. Been dreaming of them ever since we got back to the mainland ..😍😍 Ahaha.. I have never seen Joen making such a fun face after a “shot” tho 😅😂
Madeira is not the only place with bananas in Portugal. There are also some banana plantations in Azores, and also some people in the Algarve have trees (I already ate some bananas from the Algarve). But Madeira's bananas are the most popular, definitely. They are considerably more expensive than them imported from Equador or Colombia, but they have a different taste as well. You can buy those bananas in Lisbon, quite easily, especially during summer, which is the high season.
@Prince London it's made with lemon and sugar cane rum, it is very strong and bitter, you can get them everywhere in Funchal, I just recommended Camara de Lobos as they are very popular. If you can visit taberna da Poncha in Funchal really good little bar.
wow, that bolo de mel de cana looks amazing, the ones sold in most places are traditionaly very dry because they last long time (months) . Everything else looks great also. I like the bananas from Madeira , for me they are the best ones, maracujá also. Prego in bolo do caco is amazing. and poncha de maracujá .
It was an aesthetic marvel that cake! The taste was pretty familiar since we have almost the same in Denmark, but very good nonetheless. The bananas are amazing. We fell in love with bananas on a whole new level when we visited Bali two years ago. That's when we realized that a banana has been a fraud most of our Danish lives, haha!
Hey guys! Love Love Love! Try the Espetada and Milho frito as well as the Bolo do Caco with garlic butter in Santo Antonio Restaurant in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos. You will have a great view of Funchal and try delicious food in the Design Centre Nini in Pontinha- Funchal. Besides the Bolo de Mel, give the Queijadinhas a try. I also recommend something you missed in Monte - the toboggan wicker slide ride. It´s an experience you won´t find anywhere else!!! Worth trying! The list in endless...
@Prince London if search for it, I bet you can find it There is a lot of people from Madeira living in England, so for sure there's some sort of restaurant or store that sells traditional food
"bananas from Holland" lol, a lot of tasteless veggies come from their greenhouses but never heard about bananas, I could be wrong. The Madeira bananas look delicious.
prince I don’t know why Joen called it a whiskey 🥃It’s “just” a sugarcane rum cocktail with orange and lemon juice (ish) but it taste amazing - and it kicks 😅😅😘😊❤️
:) i recognize the last waitress !! i had the last lunch in Madeira there before flight to Lisbon .. (month ago Flower Festival) and yes for appetizer i had "Lapas" like i did in almost every resteraunt i went during my stay , they are really good Great Video..
if you are on a budget, for cheap eats away from the crowds you can't beat the dish of the day at a Pingo Doce supermarket cafeteria I had pork escallope and chestnuts in a madeira sauce with butter fried beans and milho frito , plus a beer for less than 5euro. it was excellent.
That food looked amazing! (And no octopus 🐙) The bananas sound like they are similar to plantains, but smaller. Same family I guess. I’m thinking I may find myself visiting your Madeira villa one day 😉 Obrigada 🤗
Prince London I have been super busy too (not complaining thought 😉). I am anxious to get myself moved to Portugal. I can see Madeira will become a favourite vacation spot!
When you're at a bar ask for Tremocous when drinking beer or for pickled octopus. They are great bar snacks while drinking. Don't forget to visit the markets, especially the fish market. It is quite a cool experience. Try eat as much fresh fruit as there is something about Madeira that makes the fruit so spectacular! Malasadas are a fried doughnut that are awesome. Don't forget to try eat any Tuna dishes as Tuna is a great resource of Madeira. Carne Vinho de Alho is a must eat too!!!!!
@Prince London I live in London too but currently working in Germany, I feel your pain. Summer is basically here so you will have to take a trip to Paradise
Poncha is amazing, Bolo de Mel is also very good but it depends on the brand. Lapas is very good as well 😁 I live in Denmark for now, and I'm from Madeira and when I first came here the Christmas hearts also reminded me of Bolo de Mel! Have fun at this beautiful island!
Try Galícia, Santiago de Compostela and las illas Cíes. In Portugal u can try Berlengas islands, Monchique on Algarve, all oeste coast from Alentejo and Algarve, like Porto covo, Zambujeira, Odeceixe, etc. From Açores, you may try another island.
Portugal is a great place, if your a foreign with money. Overtaxed and shit wages, the good food and sunny weather its what make the people continue living.
Thanks so much for these vlogs. So interesting. Made my mouth water just hearing and seeing you guys talking about the food! Looking forward to the next video
You guys are still here? Don’t forget to go to Ponta do Sol, Calheta, Centro Mar, pools of Porto Moniz. All so beautiful! We got here less than a year ago, fell in love and stayed. We like Lisbon, but Madeira is a much better place to raise kids. It’s the safest town I’ve even seen!
They will be back, regarding safety is safer than the mainland for sure, if you like sea and Mountain, and depending on your professional activity this is an awesome place to live and raise your kids.
@Prince London You should take a trip to Mainland Portugal or to the Islands, you can find easily for a fair price from BritishAirways, EasyJet, Jet2, Tap, Tui, Thomas Cook...just to name a few. In Madeira, we have sunny days all year, the average temperature 15-25º so you can visit us anytime, for more information check Stay Classy videos.
Hey guys actually ‘bolo de mel’ it’s popular for Christmas. I have no idea of eating it not in Christmas ;) OMG ovas it’s the most delicious thing that I really love it. Espada with banana, it’s really for tourists. I have had it in restaurants before, it’s typical not traditional ;) still good nhom nhom Amazing food guys
Raaaaahhh ... feeling naustalgic and Hungry 😍😍😍😍 Try octupus... maybe you will like it.. grilled octupus... they have the vinagrette garlic octupus. Not sure you will like that one. 👌
I never tried but I believe the poncha from those restaurants in Zona Velha is not good (maybe in Number 2 is good enough). I would suggest to try poncha outside Funchal (Serra d'Água, Camacha...). A good garlic bread has to be freshly brewed and I believe it's not the case of that tinny garlic bread lol.
I am from Madeira miss that food. I am in London. Love your video. All the best for you and your family. Ricardo and Antonia. We are the world's best couples channel.
Grilled lapas are so amazing! Sooo yummy! But if you like lapas caught in Madeira, you will LOVE the ones from São Miguel! Both are delicious but the Azorean ones are much bigger and juicier and heaven in your mouth. Next time you’re in Ponta Delgada check out a restaurant called Cais 20 and order the lapas dos Açores. They’re are more expensive than the ones from Madeira but for good reason. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Next time you should drink poncha in Quinta Grande on the "Venda do André". I'm from madeira and I personally don't like poncha that much, but there its amazing. Poncha is something that needs to be well made to be good. In some places they make it really strong, and the only slavor you can taste is the alcohol, and that is not good. You now that the poncha its good when you dont feel the slavor of the alcohol.
Omg i've worked there on those tents on the far left,i didn't stay working there for too long but it's nice to see it done. But the owner wants to build to left even more of those spaces that you stayed in.At least is what i've heard a year ago and if im not mistaken there is like a line close to the waterfall, that might be a part of a pedestrian path before the cars got here it's called...Caminho Real. You can see those paths across the island but some of them are too damged and too dangerous to even try to cross it in some parts they are just gone. The one in the video looks like one those paths but it can also be for the people that own the land.
@Prince London well if you want to go on vacations i think its nice. I've never spend the night there i don't know how it is. But it's a quiet place on the cliff there's a waterfall and a beach down below called beach of angels(praia dos anjos). When you get to the place there's a elevator that goes up a bit it has a pool but it looks a well typical from madeira it feels like you're on a tropical place. It's not Hawaii or something like that but it's nice
I’ve lived in Rio, Florida and NY. Now I live in Madeira. It’s a piece of heaven. We have been here for only eight months but I definitely call it home!
@@joenandamalie Definitely, just got to love him. By the way: on my search for a potential future home, I stumbled upon madeira and also your channel. Love the quality of your camera work and editing. Also the choice of music is always pretty dope. I wondered about that in another video already: don't you get issues with demonetization and copyright, since you don't seem to use royalty free music or to care about this topic at all? Also I would love if you could film a bit of the surf on madeira. Unfortunately there aren't any informative videos about it and due to the situation I can't check it out myself. Sorry for the wall of text haha
Holy shit! You guys continue to do it. One video 1000 times better than the previous one. WOW! I'd like to ask you one thing, on each video, please reference the music you use. The soundtrack used here is absolutely amazing. Who is playing, singing? Is it on Spotify? Thanks!
Hi, I have start to follow your channel today and your videos are amazing! Congratulations! I am from Madeira and I have enjoyed the videos about Madeira, thankyou! I have a small note: the first restaurant bill at 6:13min do not correspond to your lunch but to your diner.
Oh prince you should definitely go here some day. Those “ouster’s” Lapas.. 😍😍😍 We would seriously go back just for those 🤤🤤 also it’s nice to see you name in the comments again ❤️💙
Prince London, Oh yes , and they do an excellent job!👏 When I was there I liked the espetada, the poncha and the honey cake too, but I didn't try the lapas and now I regret it 😁For sure next time 😋
We also have Lapas here in Torres Novas but it's a different kind of Lapas. ; ) I've only been in Madeira 6 months but I ate so much Banana frita that even now, 31 years later, just looking at you eating it made me sick to my stomach! : »» Joen, don't say I didn't warn you about the Poncha! ; )
Hah.... I can’t get my head around how you would get tired of the bananas 😅 Haha... I have never seen Joen face reacting that way after alcohol before 😂
@@joenandamalie - You can't because you didn't eat them almost day in, day out for as long as I have. :D Believe me, it's the most wonderful food you've ever tasted when it's a novelty but after a while you can't even look at it, let alone smell it. Been there, done that and my liver was never the same afterwards. I warned him in advance and I also warned him not to drink it at sea level. The base of the Poncha is almost nothing but sugar cane spirits and the freaking thing has 72% alcohol! XD I was in Madeira in the military service and when we arrived there the senior officers "threw" us a little welcoming ceremony, which consisted in drinking half a glass of pure sugar cane spirits in one shot. One of my army mates decided to play the tough guy (read "smart ass") to impress the other officers and asked for another dose. After drinking it he left to his bedroom, which was on the 2nd floor, and when he reached the top of the 2 flight of stairs he fell on the floor and was in an alcoholic coma for 12h. XD
OMG I have just discovered your videos, they are brilliant, I have been watching the ones in Madeira we were there Christmas 2018. The first place you ate (up the hill) was our favourite restaurant the fish there was fabulous, we are back Christmas 2020 we loved it there.
Just more info 🙂 The bolo de mel is not a dessert (it has mdeiran wine and spices). It's like an "aperitivo" and can be accompanied with liquor or madeira wine. You can find it all year round for tourists, but the tradition of Madeiran people is to have it at Christmas) - it should be prepared on the bank holiday of 8th December and it's eaten at Christmas (it can last for a few months).
Since you like and live in Portugal now as a suggestion why don’t you form an internet organization to help Danes wishing to move or retire in Portugal. This way this future one stop site would make their settling in, and transition a lot easier by providing your clients with all sorts of valuable information about the following: visas. housing. living costs transportation language. health. Insurance. financial matters Have a pleasant trip to and from Madeira. The same will blow you away with it’s natural beauty, and a perfect place for your drone.
@Prince London i´m from Portugal and i have never been to those beautiful islands :/ Someday i know i will, for sure :) Awesome place for photos, relaxing, hiking and of course the sun :)
@Prince London in London are a few Madeirense bars and backeries, search for "casa Madeira" or "Madeira London" there you can find some of the delicacies from Madeira island but come to Madeira and try it here, definitely they will taste better!
The bill you pay didnt got " bolo do caco", the "fried thing", and it appears "ovas" instead of "lapas", which has a different price. seems like the waiter made a classic trick to get nice tips ahah

Espatada!
You have to visit restaurant O polar in Camara de Lobos.
They are considered to serve the best of the island.
I live here in Madeira. Lapas are amazing. You missed the original Espetada, but they only have it at Estreito de Camara de Lobos!
I have a 2-part question. Did you find the cost to get to Madeira & stay there, fairly affordable? Did you find it very touristy, and was that reflected in the cost of the food? 😊
STAY CLASSY VLOG I'll be there in September. And in Porto in agust;)
As you probably know, Portugal is unique, from top to bottom, so you imagine Madeira should also been a new experience for you both

What a lovely couple you are and thank you for your very constructive suggestions as I am flying to Madeira from London on 12 June for 7 weeks! 😎✔👍😎✔👍
Yes yes yes .. Poncho is the best. But you have to try it by the metre. 21 shots of it.
@Prince London 100%
You too are lucky to travel like that wat do you do for a living, but Madeira is spetucalr been thet love it.👄
Omg i've worked there on those tents on the far left,i didn't stay working there for too long but it's nice to see it done.
@Prince London what do you mean the place?
@Prince London well if you want to go on vacations i think its nice. I've never spend the night there i don't know how it is. But it's a quiet place on the cliff there's a waterfall and a beach down below called beach of angels(praia dos anjos). When you get to the place there's a elevator that goes up a bit it has a pool but it looks a well typical from madeira it feels like you're on a tropical place. It's not Hawaii or something like that but it's nice
No words guys you are amazing.obrigado
11:08 it's as if you can see into the future ;) Hope you are enjoying my awesome island ! Peace CLR
You guys are amazing!!!! And Madeira is the best place in the world
We a starting to realize that 😍😊
@@joenandamalie
And you're right, you should go there to live. Greetings and best wishes to you! 😍😊
@@joenandamalie and thank you for all the beautiful content!!
@Prince London You're right 😃
I’ve lived in Rio, Florida and NY. Now I live in Madeira. It’s a piece of heaven. We have been here for only eight months but I definitely call it home!
You need to try grilled "Ventrecha de Atum"
I looooooove your taste of music u guys are the best
A MADEIRA É HISTÓRIA E TRADIÇÃO. É BELA E AUTENTICA. É ÚNICA. É PORTUGAL.
First few seconds I already knew that Marc Rebillet is in da house yaaaah!
He is the best!
Hello guys! All right? God bless you always! Amen?
Very good.👍 💗 Keep enjoying these wonderful things 🌱🌿🌴🌺🌅🍲🍺🍹
Thanks Pepper ❤️
Oh prince you should definitely go here some day. Those “ouster’s” Lapas.. 😍😍😍 We would seriously go back just for those 🤤🤤 also it’s nice to see you name in the comments again ❤️💙
Prince London, Oh yes , and they do an excellent job!👏 When I was there I liked the espetada, the poncha and the honey cake too, but I didn't try the lapas and now I regret it 😁For sure next time 😋
We also have Lapas here in Torres Novas but it's a different kind of Lapas. ; )
I've only been in Madeira 6 months but I ate so much Banana frita that even now, 31 years later, just looking at you eating it made me sick to my stomach! : »»
Joen, don't say I didn't warn you about the Poncha! ; )
@Prince London - Which one? The fried banana?
Hah.... I can’t get my head around how you would get tired of the bananas 😅
Haha...
XD
I was in Madeira in the military service and when we arrived there the senior officers "threw" us a little welcoming ceremony, which consisted in drinking half a glass of pure sugar cane spirits in one shot. XD
Amaaaaaazing guys i loved the video
OMG I have just discovered your videos, they are brilliant, I have been watching the ones in Madeira we were there Christmas 2018. The first place you ate (up the hill) was our favourite restaurant the fish there was fabulous, we are back Christmas 2020 we loved it there.
You didn't eat lapas in S. Miguel? They are very popular there as well.
I swear the first receipt they charged you wrong lol but great videos and well edited!!
What an incredible vlog! Thank you guys for sharing your amazing food experiences in Madeira! Loved it!
Thank you Bruno and thank you for watching ❤️
Este é sem dúvida o vídeo com mais comentários de portugueses a falar inglês do youtube. Como e que estes dois vão aprender o português assim?
Pois😂
Just more info 🙂 The bolo de mel is not a dessert (it has mdeiran wine and spices). It's like an "aperitivo" and can be accompanied with liquor or madeira wine. You can find it all year round for tourists, but the tradition of Madeiran people is to have it at Christmas) - it should be prepared on the bank holiday of 8th December and it's eaten at Christmas (it can last for a few months).
Bolo de Mel lol. Hardly anybody eats it apart from tourists.
You guys went to São Miguel, Açores. I’m surprised you didn’t try the lapas there? The Açores are known for their lapas.
Since you like and live in Portugal now as a suggestion why don’t you form an internet organization to help Danes wishing to move or retire in Portugal.
This way this future one stop site would make their settling in, and transition a lot easier by providing your clients with all sorts of valuable information about the following:
visas.
housing.
living costs
transportation
language.
health.
Insurance.
financial matters
Have a pleasant trip to and from Madeira. The same will blow you away with it’s natural beauty, and a perfect place for your drone.
Damm. That last poncha was made of gold or what?! €4.50 for a poncha?! Being from Madeira i can tell you that for 1.50 i get you amazing poncha.
Tourists get ripped off so bad there lol.
Small pudim 4.90 euros...
Poncha 4.5 euros...
That's why I keep telling them they should try and meet the locals for some hidden gems! STAY CLASSY VLOG
The issue it's not only the price paid in touristic places, but food and drinks are not as good. The real/original recipe are where locals go.
Awesome ! I wanna go to Madeira :)
We understand why. It’s an amazing island and god knows we are coming back !! 🙌😍❤️
I actually think you can find it in London, if you can find a Portuguese store 🙌😘👑💙
@Prince London i´m from Portugal and i have never been to those beautiful islands :/ Someday i know i will, for sure :) Awesome place for photos, relaxing, hiking and of course the sun :)
Next time try Nikita (traditional coktail with or without alcool, that contains beer, ice cream and soda).
Yeah we missed out on that. So sad 😞
@Prince London in London are a few Madeirense bars and backeries, search for "casa Madeira" or "Madeira London" there you can find some of the delicacies from Madeira island but come to Madeira and try it here, definitely they will taste better!
And fun fact: the drink was called after the song nikita of Elton John in the mid 80's.
The bill you pay didnt got " bolo do caco", the "fried thing", and it appears "ovas" instead of "lapas", which has a different price. seems like the waiter made a classic trick to get nice tips ahah
Hi. You must go to mercado dos Lavradores in Funchal.
