Hi Susan. I commented in the live chat about founding my wonderful partner online. However, we have a problem that recently came up again, maybe you could do a live chat about the topic? I am not religious, but I have a strong faith in some kind of higher power and it has been helping me a lot. He knew about this before we met. I am not a fanatic, not even close. He is an atheist. I almost never talk about spiritual stuff with him, but sometimes the topic comes up and he immediately starts to debate it with me, even if there is nothing to debate. He starts questioning my beliefs, starts being very defensive and almost talks down to me, making me feel less than, which makes me feeling I have to defend myself. He then shuts down and don't want to hear me out. It was not like this in the beginning. In the beginning he was more interested and curious. Now I feel like he hates me for it.
@@papyrus88Is spirituality the ONLY time he 'schools' you? If so, it is his hot button. My real concern is if he does this in other areas where you have differing opinions. If so, you need to address it now. That can become a real issue, and please understand should you marry or live together, your partner who exhibits this type of need to correct you and educate you increases. Now, they're comfortable in the established relationship. You have become part of their identity. And if you differ in opinion with this type of person, they must correct you because it reflects upon them. Please figure out which situation it is.
@@SusanWinter I would say yes, but we don't differ that much in general so it's difficult to know if it is true for other topics as well. However, he has tendencies to debate me in general instead of asking questions or being curious. I have called him out on it because it hurts me, and I don't want every small talk to become a debate since it creates a feeling of separation. I do "correct" him as well though. Not for his atheistic view, but if he does harmful things like smoking or drinking too much or do other "not so constructive" things. But yes, this is his hot button. He even has a tattoo saying that god does not exist.
