yeah, i had a time in silver where i should've already reached gold but i kept getting people who just spammed attacks that took up the entire stage so i couldn't do enough damage. it was always the struggle getting at those last 2 games and getting fucked in the ass by the people who lowered their elo just to feel better about their own skill, which they still do but oh well i can deal with them better now and it gives me some practice for higher level players like those in platinum

It's fascinating as a high gold player trying to get plat watching diamonds and pros fight each other. I notice that they really don't make very frequent use of the massive 02death strings you see in montages. Mostly the attacks and combos they use are the same that you'd expect to see in high gold or plat. It's really made me realize that the main determiner of skill past 1550~1600 ish elo is movement and NOT ability to pull off crazy long strings and clips (although the ability to do those definitely doesn't hurt either and you occasionally see them in pro games)
