Thanks bro... I thank the lady that took this video... People that are commenting rudely, just take a moment to think: 1.the lady took her time to take an educational video of how to weave a basket. 2. Watch the person making the basket and just leave the lady out of it.. It is the guy making the basket not the lady. Awesome video.. # proud to be a kaiviti.. God bless from Fiji.
Yes, it would have been nice if the ENTIRE procedure had been filmed. I've read enough of my coconut palm frond weaving books to take a good guess as how the basket was finished. I think after he finished weaving the long braids down the sides, the whole thing is flipped upside-down. Then the center stalk of the palm frond is split down the middle forming the basket shape. The longs braids that went down the sides are now tied together forming the handle.
For those asking for the end of the video, I just found it. Click on her name (under the video) "freetime2009" Right under the video up there. It'll take you to her channel. The video directly under this one shows the whole process. But it's not as detailed as this one is. however you can see how he quickly puts the basket together.
She sounds like someone who needs to talk to show that she is all there concentrating and learning. You just watch and you can understand without asking all those questions and following the up and down of the weaving. Goodness gracious, very irritating. I watch a lot of Asian art and craft videos without understanding a single word yet I can follow the craft work in detail and I get it as it is shown in the video.
@violinist881 you have to remember that you need to climb the tall coconut trees to get the better leaf. climbing tall trees are not easy and if you fall you could get hurt, of worst you could die, so it's not free. sooner or later you have to pay for those leaves, the law of average says if you climb a lot of tall trees one day you will fall. remember that
Her talking was fine. It was just annoying how she wasn't focused on the actual footage. All she was going was hold the camera and looking at him when she should have been looking at the camera.
Yah! B sides having to climb da tree to get da leaf there r sum things u do to stay master n one of them is u teach sum n u keep sum! Dats how u stay master! Grasshopper!
You think that's funny you should listen to a samoan or tongan accent hahahaha they're funnier than fijian accents ..you can understand fijian accents more

This one got stuck and did not fully load, but I like what I have seen so far. Very interesting.
So, the center of the stem becomes the rim of the basket...am I visualizing that correctly?
great video thankyou, I wanted to try it on my mums palm tree but I don't think she would let me cut a chunk off. but great video
Actually, if you go to her channel, it shows how to complete it in the other video with Izzy in it.
Having fun trying this!!
Would be good to see how he finished it. Is there another video which shows this? I found it very informative and I didn't mind the commentary

i bet that guy could get alot of work done if he didn't have to explain himself to the annoying housewife
She should have been quiet and allowed the man to teach. Her input was distracting for him and for us..
