  • We explore Steinberg's new drum designer Backbone and discover its power extends far beyond creating percussion. The convenient drag and drop sample layering, re-synthesis and decompose features make it a wildly creative tool for inventing unique instruments like leads, basses and pads.

Ace review/demo of its capabilities - easily the best one of this plugin currently out there. Spooky stuff..! Subbed and liked.

I watched a documentary on UFOs a few weeks ago and I would have sworn that you were the narrator.

Oh that's cool!! 🤩 Takes the whole "make a kitchen pot sound like a kick drum"-experimentation to a new level. It's amazing how you turned a few sounds into something so sinister.

With all their noise and clanging harmonics, pots and pans would probably make incredible sample material for Backbone. Time to raid the kitchen!

Yes, they are great! It was so interesting to experiment with kitchen gear, my family wondered where all the pots had gone! 😆 You are challenged to create a piece that features cooking equipment! (If you haven't already? 🤔)

@@SaherGalt man I'm so keen! 😁🎹 Just drop the album already, there's nothing better that I can think of other than listening to your new album during this pandemic. Needless to say, these unusual sounds will fit perfectly with the current mood and climate around the world 😊

well, omnisphere does that since ages :D

Not really. The main Backbone features we discuss like decompose (automatically separating tonal and noise layers), dragging samples directly from the DAW with no export required, and the resynthesis module, especially its purity control, aren't in Omnisphere.
