These videos are incredibly helpful! Backing tracks are great, your playing is also brilliant! exactly what I was looking for, improved my fiddle playing 10 fold too! Thank you!! Keep them coming amigo!
Thank you so much! Make sure you check out the others. I'm so glad they are helpful, that was alway the aim. :) I must admit it's been a while since I've been able to make a new one.. but I hope to get round to that again soon! ☺

Just stumbled across this video - what a blast. I'll be sure to look out for more of your stuff - definitely a nice variation from practicing solo. Thanks very much for doing this!
Aha that’s wonderful, so glad you enjoyed it! Tin whistle is great 😊 I’m working on a new Play Along video which features a lot more whistle, so that will be out soon. 😄
Woooow, I'm so glad that UA-cam recommended your video and channel to me 😍🎶! This is amazing! Unfortunately, it is 10pm and I doubt my neighbours will tolerate even more musical madness from my side. But - mark my words... when time comes, the moment it hits 8 or 9 am tomorrow, I'll be here!!!! 😅 Will tell you how it went ^^
@@CharlesHarrisonMusic it's actually so hard 😅 but lots of fun. Have to keep practicing^^ (I have to un-programme my muscle memory for a few parts, my fingers and brain are screaming xD). But I'll get the hang of it -hopefully. And such a cool practice as I can't play with anyone else at the moment. Thank youuuu!
@Charles Harrison Hi, I liked how you present the video but I wonder how much you have accompanied Irish ríleanna before. You play a lot of out of the box chords with a 3rd and Cooley's is definitely a Dorian tune. It sounds better with modal chords as would say Sarah McQuaid. Matt Heaton gives an excellent lesson in backing tunes in E Dorian. But you really have a good talent for teaching 🙂 I hope it helps. All the best 😉
Hey again! Thanks so much for the comment; I do find this to be a really fascinating discussion actually. It's funny you pick up on the fact I do try to choose "out of the box" chords from time to time, though I tend to only do this as the track progresses in order to move it forward. For me, condensing things down into these short videos and sheet music becomes a delicate balance between choosing chords that perfectly match the melody and fit within the Dorian box, and choosing chords that harmonically enrich the melody and change the overarching shape and tone of the piece as a whole. I found the video from Matt Heaton that you mentioned and it was great to see, I enjoyed it; he even mentioned the C chord specifically! I'm always up for learning different perspectives and new techniques in music so really do appreciate your comment and recommendation. For something more Modal, do check out my brand new "Julia Clifford's Reel" Play Along and let me know what you think of that one. I also feel we are merely brushing the tip of the huge iceberg that is: Harmony. 🎶😊
@@CharlesHarrisonMusic Fáilte romhat! My pleasure. I shall check that video you mentioned. :) Matt Heaton played great on his wife Shannon's Live session yesterday and they had an excellent fiddle player guest Ellery Klein.
Hi Charles love your tracks was wondering if you have your tracks the faster version on an audio or mp3 fie i play banjo in an irish folk band i feel your tracks would be awesome to play along with
Hi Paul, glad you’re enjoying the tracks and thanks for the comment. :) I just replied to you on another comment to say that all my backing tracks are available as MP3s over on Patreon, either through the shop or freely available to Patreon subscribers. Hope that helps! 😃🎶
Hey! Thanks for the comment. :) It’s not just you; you are right that it can sound odd in this context! I like it here as a passing chord for the sense of progression. At some points, with the tune over the top, it basically becomes a Cmaj7 (with the added B note). Personally, I think that makes the return to Em more satisfying. 😄
Let me know how it goes! :D But yes, you are right, and it does heavily depend what the notes in the tune are at that moment. Sometimes other C chords will work better than a simple major chord (eg sus2 or sus4, 7ths, 9ths etc..), although in this particular arrangement I felt that C major in the accompanying parts worked as a solid foundation. 🙂
@@CharlesHarrisonMusic I shall! 😺 Actually with Chordify I noticed that even the mighty Micheál Ó Domhnaill put some C chords in an E dorian tune. I gues it also depends on the tempo and melodic instrument sound. Maybe? Music is an ever lay adventure ^^
@@Melvorgazh Yes I think it mostly depends on what the other instruments are doing at the same time. But you are right, music is definitely an adventure and that is what makes it so much fun! 😁
Hi, I’ve just opened up the old project to check for you and the exact tempo is actually 134.4709 (for some reason… 😅). So 134bpm might work well enough?
@@CharlesHarrisonMusic yes hopefully. I'm practicing along to your slow version although my sheet music does differ slightly.but thats cool. I'm hoping to be able to post a video before new years.
Wow it sounds amazing in the middle when you play all the parts combined!
Thank you very much! 😃🎶

I cannot read music but I enjoy play along to your sound by my playing Irish tin whistle and D harmonica.

Hi!
Interesting video with the pictures of the chords + the score.
But I always found the C major chord od in E dorian tunes.
Or is it just me?

@@CharlesHarrisonMusic Ah, a C maj7 / B is different than a simple C.
I shall try it and see have it sounds on Cooley's and Ships Are Sailing.
