Die Lieder Hildegards wechseln sich ab mit neu komponierten instrumentalen Meditationen von Petter Udland Johansen, die von der Musik Hildegards inspiriert sind und eine Brücke zwischen ihrer damaligen und unserer jetzigen Zeit bauen.

“Vox Cosmica”, new album by Hirundo Maris
The ensemble Hirundo Maris, formed by Arianna Savall and Petter U. Johansen, has just released its new album “Vox Cosmica” with the record label Carpe Diem.
“Vox Cosmica” reflects the music of the composer, medieval philosopher and mystic Saint Hildegard of Bingen. The warm voice of the soprano Arianna Savall, contrasting with the characterful voice of the tenor Petter U. Johansen, brings to life the songs of the medieval abbess. Together with David Mayoral, Anke and Andreas Spindler they interpret some of her most ecstatic musical compositions in a musical garland, embellished with poetic meditations by Savall and Johansen, written by the warmth of their music. El conjunto Hirundo Maris, formado por Arianna Savall y Petter U. Johansen, acaba de lanzar su nuevo disco “Vox Cosmica” con el sello discográfico Carpe Diem Records.
“Vox Cosmica” recoge la música de la compositora, mística y filósofa medieval Hildegarda de Bingen. La cálida voz de la soprano Arianna Savall, que contrasta con la voz llena de carácter del tenor Petter U. Johansen, da vida a los cantos de la abadesa medieval. Junto a David Mayoral, Anke y Andreas Spindler enhebran algunas de sus más extáticas composiciones en una guirnalda musical que se embellece con unas poéticas meditaciones de Savall y Johansen escritas al calor de su música. There is no one literally walking the earth today whom I would rather hear sing Hildegard than Arianna Savall. (Or a lovelier version of Dolorum solatium than Petter sings). What I think makes their music so very celestial is not only their highly refined musicianship, but the beauty of Arianna and Peter's spirits, and the love they share as husband and wife. Arianna Savall's voice is just so perfect for this music. It is even clearer than her mothers voice was. I like her better. Hopefully she keeps on singing ! Her harp playing is wonderful, too, but a voice like this must sing !

Once more an impressive performance by Arianna Savall. How proud her mother might be, wherever she is! Love the unmistakable grace of her voice and still more the feeling she lets spread through her singing, as if layers of precious silk were being laid on, one after another. Hildegard von Bingen's songs are very delicate and elevated: They request a Heart, not just voice, and Arianna certainly possesses both. Wonderful. P.S.: the musicians and arrangement make the spirit float and fly in conjunction with the whole performance.

I'm going to keep things very simple.
This performance is extraordinary. If, like me, what you appreciate more than anything else in music is time, from 0:00 to 0:159 is like listening to the most unexpectedly rich and wonderful jazz. It's THAT in the pocket and creative. They are breathing music and time. This performance is like watching color unfold.
If anyone who performed in this ever reads this, and this may be way overdue, but there are those out there who listen to things like this and who know how extraordinary this is.

Some of the most transcendental music to come from the Christian tradition. Hildegard is one of history's most underappreciated composers.

Beautiful music indeed. But she is not underappreciated, actually she's been really on fashion since the 60's, mostly now that they are glorifying female heroins. People should know, though, that she was no the composer. Sometimes she had some musical idea and the a composer made the whole thing.
