Nuki Opener Unboxing & Installation

  • This week I get my hands on the Nuki Opener, a device designed to integrate in line with your apartment or home intercom system and allow you to open main building doors or security gates.
    I briefly unbox and wire in the device into my apartment intercom. While I didn't get a chance to fully test the Opener, it will hopefully replace the need for me to carry fobs to open the security doors in my building, and, in conjunction with my Nuki Smart Lock, is another step to carrying no keys.
    I'll do a follow-up video in a few weeks when I have tested this out more thoroughly.

    Hi there, thanks for the video - very useful. I’m wondering what the response time for the notifications is? The main use case of this for me would be not missing the buzzer when someone arrives - which often happens. Be great to get an alert near instantly so I can open the door if expecting someone or go to the answer phone if not… Thanks!

      So to be honest this is an issue at times. The notifications are a bit hit and miss for me. Most of the time its straight away, but sometimes I get no notification at all. I'm hoping this is just software and will be fixed in later updates, but its definitely frustrating. :(

    Hi, great video. I installed my opener and found the some problems, have you managed to set up it to get notifications when someone rings, and if yes, could you kindly tell me how to set up?
    Thanks

      So this is a strange one, but it seems like the notifications are pushed from Nuki web, so you'll need a bridge setup.
      Then if you go into the app, then manage the opener theres an option for notifications for actions and rings. It will ask for your nuki web login details and then you can toggle the push notifications on and off.

    Hello, thanks for the video, when you Say you are disapointed by some limitations that may be due to your intercom, what do you mean exaactly ? What limitations does your intercom have, it looks like a nice one ... ?

      Really depends on how the system is wired into the building. I can do ring to open which means for 30 seconds if you ring the apartment number the main entrance will open, but I can't open the door without having to buzz the apartment which means late at night I risk waking people up. With the setup in my building I can't open the door silently which is frustrating.

    Hi Just wondering if it is possible to use the nuki opener without the bridge? Like just having your phone in the apartment only.
    Also can you reduce the volume of your original speaker buzzer when someone presses the button?

    • @AndysTechLife
      @AndysTechLife  4 роки тому

      I'll check if it works without the bridge this evening, but even if it does you'll have severely restricted functionality so it would only work to let people in, but let me check and get back to you.
      Depending on the make of the intercom you can suppress the sound but theres no option to change the original volume. Suppressing only works with some models, for example doesn't work with my Fermax one, best to check on the Nuki forum to see if yours is supported.

      Nuki say it does work without the bridge but they don't recommend it and it wont work at your entrance unless you're within bluetooth range.

      @@AndysTechLife Ah thanks!. That's fine for me, I only plan on using the device at home, so when Im not near the intercom I can let people in, and to turn off the speaker buzzer as it is so freken loud and no way of turning it down. Also the bridge isnt available where I live yet. Just hope all the features of the app can be access via Bluetooth with the opener and a smart phone.

    I might have missed it but does it work on proximity saying i come home to the appartment door and it knows it's me so the door unlocks without using my phone of pressing the bell ?

    • @AndysTechLife
      @AndysTechLife  3 роки тому

      For me I can get it to activate bell to open when I enter the geo fenced area. This is under Smart actions -> Auto unlock settings. There you can set a geo fence. The opener though won't do this via Bluetooth in most cases as the opener itself would be too far away from the apartment entrance to connect via Bluetooth, so its really you app being given permission to access location data all the time and when you arrive in an area it signals the opener. This will only work if you have the Nuki bridge to connect the opener to the Internet also. Hope this helps.

    Hi Andy , Can this opener working with the analog telephone exchange system? ( my is a phone in appartment, and will ring from buzz, and answer by hit #6 open), and do you have wiring diagram for the 6 wires on nuki oppener? thank you!

      Don't know to be honest, but the nuki site has a compatibility checker here: nuki.io/en/opener/ so worth checking. It might be able to work, but I'd double check first. They also have a wiring diagram here: developer.nuki.io/uploads/default/optimized/2X/6/6becef33ce4dc39175731bf61a45c149f6d41c47_2_517x750.png

    Hi, so someone has to buzz anyway and after I activated the "ring to open" function, no way to push a button and directly open it like I do with the nuki smart lock: "With the open door feature, you can control your intercom system’s buzzer via the Nuki app..." I don't see any Open Door feature in the app

    • @AndysTechLife
      @AndysTechLife  3 роки тому +2

      The opener feature only seems to work with certain models which is a pain. When youre setting it up it will attempt to do 'opening as part of the setup and ask you if it worked but it didn't for mine. Read mixed reports online about how well this works with some people suggesting its how the building system is wired as opposed to the device not being compatible. Actually plan some tests setting up as a different model number this weekend and seeing if anything else works. Will let you know

      @@AndysTechLife My intercom is listed as compatible but as you say the building system could not, I had to do a workout wiring with the help desk as the default wiring chart didn't connect it, maybe that's why, all is working but not the open door main feature. Yes please keep me updated. Thank you Andy

      @@AndysTechLife Hi, it was explained by nuki support today: my intercom needs activation, it means even before I was not able to open the door if no one is buzzing, so that's why the opener is behaving the same now and only the ring to open is working.

    • @AndysTechLife
      @AndysTechLife  3 роки тому +1

      This makes sense. I asked at the concierge in my building and they said they're not setup to open without being triggered first to prevent accidental opening. So that kinda sucks. :( the only thing you could do is try ring suppression, so you'd still need to ring to open but at least thered be no noise inside. Kinda a work around

      @@AndysTechLife I'm wondering how someone could open the door in error, if you pick up the buzzer is just because someone is ringing you.

    does it work without nuki bridge but Alexa as a home assistant?

    • @AndysTechLife
      @AndysTechLife  Місяць тому

      I think the new version of the lock has matter support so doesn't need a bridge, I know that they're moving away from bridges, but the openers need a bridge last time I checked.

    Am I missing something here? Who open the main entrance of apartment without talking to the arriving person just ringing the bell of your apartment?
    Speaking to the arriving person or guest is the basic function of an intercom on building entrance connecting to your apartment, opening it (or not) is secondary requirement.
    Someone please enlighten me with new knowledge if things are otherwise.

    • @AndysTechLife

      One example is, which I've used... if you had a friend or family member visiting and they arrive early and you're not there yet you might want to let them in remotely so they don't have to wait outside. They phone when they're there and you can let them in from wherever you are. The main use for this though is so that you yourself don't have to carry your fob or let for this entrance. Hope this gives you some useful ideas!

    Where is the part, when you have to ring at the Door?

    • @AndysTechLife
      @AndysTechLife  4 роки тому

      Your intercom is what is used at the main door so it will only work if your building has a comparable intercom. Best to check the Nuki website :)
