Seeing this at the Tate was maybe the most visceral engagement I've ever had with an artwork. Of the piece, Wolfson has said, "This is real abuse -- not a simulation." I'm not sure who the subject of that abuse is, exactly -- the puppet? or the audience? Because it hurts to watch; by the end I was flinching with each ratcheting clank of the chains. If you get the chance to see it in person, do it. It's amazing.
This activated my Fight-or-Flight response. Good job. Art should always be stimulating, whether in a positive or negative ways. Very cool and enlightening, regardless 💗
this screams child abuse to me. i believe its a guilt trip kind of thing. the child is on display for everyone to see, getting picked up and tortured 24/7. whilst the general public just stands around and watches. they cant and wont do anything.
I think about this art exhibit every time someone defends hitting/spanking children. I hate that people think that somehow helps a child when it has been proven time and time again not to.
wow! This is perhaps a punishment because the character stops to make a list of things that he apparently wants us to do, so he is whipped harder and more aggressively.
@Ronald van tienhoven - I've watched so many UA-cam videos of this in the last three days... and I'm wondering, what is intended to be the "beginning" of a full cycle's viewing of this work? (is it the numbered spoken section?) I'm especially curious to know.when the fragmented version of "When a Man Loves a Women" is used, as opposed to the longer version s). Is the fragmented version ("When a ..."- STOP) towards the beginning of the performance cycle? Thanks for any help anyone can give about this. Also is the numbered list and Spit Earth near "the end" of it all - or the beginning?
Para ser honestos, no soy fanático del arte, pero ver esta obra neta que me llamo un vergo la atención, excelente, muy profunda y puede interpretarse de muchas formas🤌🏼👏🏽

Lucky you! I would love to see a Wolfson exhibition in person one day. Did you see the female figure as well?
I’m pretty sure it’s about child abuse, it breaks my heart

It shows abuse and the eyes are supposed to show the feelings of the child
I think it is about Eliciting emotions with machines

@Cinthia raquel Riquelme saldivar es relativo porque se ve a la obra con rabia y dice amenazas, pareciera más un castigó
This had me mesmerised when I was watching live at the gallery!

Reflects a person who may have suffered sexual abuse or other "maltreatment"
