    Just sharing experience - the tires. I like very much how they roll with little resistance, and how the manage over city streets in general.
    BUT, in a short period of time I had two punctures. And nothing like the usual, tire deflates completely after 30 min to one hour. Local bike shop repair man says that this time of the year they had a lot of these. The most frequent cause are tiny needles from chestnut shells. That would explain what happens to me. If so, the inscription on the tire wall that indicates puncture protection is at least ridiculous.

    • @TheDecathlonMan

      Thanks for sharing, the tyres come with a breaker belt under the tread, I don’t think this is bead to bead which may mean it just missed the belt? Please feel free to leave a review on the website detailing this as the brand do take action on any review left on the website.

      You can indeed downsize the crank length to 165mm. You will need to make sure the chainline is around 45mm though, this looks a possibility below from another site that may help. You will need a crank puller, unless you take it to one of our workshops of course.

    How do you take the rear cog off? Had the ratcheting mechanism fail about a year ago (had the bike 3 years or so now) and couldn't figure out how to get it of. Even a mate of mine who is a bike enthusiast couldn't find a tool in his massive bicycle tool box that worked. Ended up just flipping the wheel around and leaving the old one on, but it's starting to turn the same orange colour a the bike so I'd like to get it off.

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  Рік тому +1

      Well that will depend on a lot of things, spokes will always stretch and eventually snap, it will depend on the weight carried by the bike, the torque put through the wheels and of course how it is ridden. If you ride it like you stole it and jump off every thing in sight, then yeah, they will break. If you want stronger wheels go for the deeper section wheels that I have put in the description. 💪🏻

    One more question - mudguards. Is it safe to attach the L- shaped metal mount on the screw that hold the brakes? I have the plastic mudguards that come with such mounting system. I tried to put the mudguards under the brake calipers and there is about 0,5 - 1 cm space to the tire. The mudguards are in contact with the bottom of the caliper system and when I press the brake lever the mudguards do move a little. Is that normal?

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  Рік тому +1

      I would not use any mudguard other than the Raceblade XL on this bike, linked to in the description. If the mudguards you are using foul/touch the inside of the brake caliper at all or prevent the caliper arms movement, there is a risk of possible jamming.

    • @marcgasper8226
      @marcgasper8226 Рік тому

      @@TheDecathlonMan Thank you for the link regarding Raceblade mudguards and the explanation.
      Since my mudguards are made of relatively soft plastic, I cut them to the shape of Raceblades and firmly attached them with zip-ties. The front mudguard got additional aluminum rails to hold the bottom part, attached to the bottom of the fork via screws on eyelets. Everything is firm and no play. It will do for this winter.

    I had a flat rear tyre recently. I was wondering is it safe to remove the metal looking things on the rear tyre? They seem to stop the wheel from moving, but I've removed them when changing the tyre and can't seem to fit them back.

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  Рік тому +1

      Safe to remove them but I would put them back on, they are there to fine tune the tension in your chain, they make it easier to keep the wheel in good alignment too. This is assuming you meant wheel/ dropout and not tyre?

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  Рік тому +1

      To adjust the tension on the chain, loosen the wheel nuts then adjust the 10mm nut on tensioners until you are happy with the tension on the chain and the wheel sits straight, then tighten the wheel nuts.

    • @marcgasper8226
      @marcgasper8226 Рік тому

      Not a standard procedure, but if you have identified where the puncture is, you can patch the puncture not having to take the wheel off. Just pull the tire of the wheel, patch the tube, go with fingers throughout the tire from the inside to establish if the cause of the puncture is still in-remove it if it is, and assemble the patched tube and tire back on. That is it.

    What is the cheapest way to upgrade the brakes? The force I have to apply is much too high to safely stop the bike in an instant when needed. I was told to replace the original braking pads with pads for carbon wheels, as my cheapest option. Other than that it seems that the cure is to change the complete rim brakes, which cost much more than brake pads alone.

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  Рік тому

      You will never be able to stop in an instant unless you hit something, like a wall 😉 Keep your weight as far back as possible when braking hard. You are correct though the pads can be replaced with the wet weather pads and they are a softer compound than the originals www.decathlon.co.uk/p/extreme-wet-road-bike-brake-bushings/_/R-p-101521?mc=8327666
      The tension in the brake cables may also be too high, meaning you are not actually using the lever as it was intended, as a lever, the lever should be around halfway through it’s arc before the brake starts to bite otherwise you lose all modulation and it will require more hand strength. If you have small hands the levers can be adjusted to be closer to the bar. If you are unsure, take it to one of our workshops.

    Good review, thanks.
    I have the grey in XL size for over a year now. Regular commute 20 miles a day.
    It is agile on the road and a smooth ride, my guess would also be because of smooth tires. It is heavy, but for the price paid I don't mind that. I changed the seat and seatpost, I wonder why Dechatlon opted for a seatpost that can not be angle adjusted. And I changed the pedals for metal with pins. The geometry of the frame is peculiar, I feel cramped on the bike. My legs are to close to my chest while riding. That makes very hard to achieve high RPMs withot bouncing on the saddle.
    Gearing 44/18 is too slow for me. What is the best way to fix that? is it possible to put 16T rear cog. Or to replace 44T for a bigger chainring?

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Marc, yes it is possible to swap for either a smaller cog at the rear or a larger chainring at the front. Either will work in terms of distance covered for each revolution and in turn speed if you pedal faster. Bear in mind if you hit a hill, you will feel it. With regards to how big you can go with the chainring, just make sure it is not so big it hits the chainstay 😂

    How can I change my handle bars? 😢

      Any Decathlon workshop can change handlebars, they may have to order in new brake levers if you wanted a drop bar instead.

    what’s the flip flop fixie?

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the question, this means on one side of the hub on the rear wheel, you can have a single speed freewheel which allows you to stop pedalling and on the other side of the hub you can have a fixed gear with no freewheel, these can also be of different sizes, to allow a change of gear should you fancy it. This does of course mean stopping, removing the wheel and turning it round and reinstalling it, hence the term ‘flip flop’ hope this helps?

      Can you send me the item code and I can try and check for you. The Speed 500 comes with a 119mm spindle, square taper BB. This is where one of our workshops comes in handy, as most have spindle sizes that will be compatible to keep the chainline correct for whatever chainset you wish to use.

      Thanks for your question, the Elops Speed 500 has no rack mounts on the rear, in this case the best rack to use would be a seatpost mounted type rack such as the below www.decathlon.co.uk/p/500-bike-seat-post-pannier-rack/_/R-p-170873?mc=8387783

    Always interesting how Decathlon brazenly praises their low quality products, for people who don't have a clue about what they're buying and the world beyond, falling into these traps all the time. This SS is made for occasional short trips if anything, lacking even the slightest detail which makes fixed gear/SS riding so much fun. "Very very cool"? Please stop it and be honest!
