I used to work at a major amusement park as a teen, I was a safety inspector on the rides. Whenever I saw someone not " fit " enough for the ride, or if we had to push down the vest harness multiple times to " lock " it in place, I'd immediately report it to our supervisor. ANYTHING can happen at high speeds. We have the right to decline, due to body size not only for that specific individual, but for ALL, for safety measures.

He, all the other operators, and the company should be the one at fault. He should have been paying attention to his job and went around as well as the other should have as well made sure everybody was locked in properly, if he wasn't so busy speaking with the people he was in front of he could have just looked to the left and seen that the harness wasn't down completely over top of that 14-year-old boy. I’m sorry I think the operator is in fact responsible, in the recording he sounds pretty distracted and I’ve heard lots of people say that some of the employees present were on their phone. I can relate to that, I’m in college and I work part time, I know these minimum wage jobs are harsh and awful. But if the ride operators want to work somewhere they can goof off , they can get a normal summer job like at a store or doing food service. why would you choose to work as a ride operator and then not take it seriously? even a teenager knows that things can go wrong with these devices and people can die or be injured by them. like I get being distracted at work, I do tasks sloppily at my Starbucks job all the time, but the difference is that no one is in danger if I forget to put extra caramel drizzle on a frappuccino. employees need to be vigilant when when human lives are at risk. the ride operators should have been taught better than to be lazy about checking the safety mechanisms on an extremely complicated and potentially deadly machine. I think that they may have just not known there was a size limit though, since i doubt any of them were properly taught how the ride even works. I think the blame does fall on the managers too. Either way it feels like illegal gross/reckless negligence by someone. but the employee should have been manually checking the restraints, then maybe someone would have realized that he clearly did not fit in the shoulder harness and this never would have happened. Whether it’s the managers or the ride operators who truly made the decision it’s still an obvious oversight on someone’s part that feels super reckless, and these rides are safe if you are not too big or too small for them so I don’t think the blame is on the manufacturer. but the lack of a secondary seatbelt is concerning on the design of the ride too. It really is a super upsetting situation all around though :(

I believe the top came down and latched maybe once instead of the few clicks we all hear but it was too much pressure and something popped as he was coming down. Think of the force his shoulders going against the wind put on an already distressed latch. The boys friend even said he said something wasn't right. He just should've yelled out. Sure the park attendant should've told him he was to big but in todays world that could get you a discrimination lawsuit too..just saying people need to really use logic on this one. In personal injury/wrongful death cases it must be proved that the injured person took reasonable action to maintain their safety. I believe this case will reach a settlement rather than being a full win for the family for these reasons: 1) Tyree was declined from this ride earlier in the day for his size but went back to ride it later when different people were operating it. He bares SOME responsibility in bypassing safety measures. 2) The ride operators more than likely were TRAINED to take certain precautions before starting rides & agreed to take those precautions when they accepted employment at the theme park. The video shows they NEVER went to check the harnesses of the people on the end of the ride where Tyree & his friends were seated. The operators failed to do their due diligence to the passengers they didn’t check so they also BARE RESPONSIBILITY in the tragedy.

Either he wasn't properly restrained or he was too big/tall for the ride and they let him on anyways. I've seen it so many times. Children who are too short/small being let on rides and people who are probably too big being let on rides. It does seem to defy common sense that teenagers are being entrusted with making the decisions on enforcing safety standards. For certain rides, these amusement parks need to bite the bullet and pay more to employ people who are trained properly so that rides like these are being operated by someone who has better judgement than a teenager. No one should have to die because they got on an amusement park ride.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this boy and his family!! Such a horrific tragedy!
I saw several videos about this particular freefall ride and it is not equipped with a seat belt that straps the harness down to the seat. That definitely would have helped keep him or anyone inside the seat. I am very surprised that that ride was manufactured without ONE!! Definitely a liability issue for Icon.

There are some rides that people cannot go on because they’re not tall enough, not old enough, because of medical reasons or too big. The owner of the ride should’ve known better than that. It’s the owner’s responsibility to tell the person that he or she can’t go on the rides because of safety precautions.
