Hot Wheels Road Wars Liberty Base - Mad Max Style Action & My Most Expensive Playset Unboxing Yet

- This is a playset I've been wanting for years and I finally was able to snag a new-in-box set! While the build quality wasn't quite what I was expecting, and the stickers and assembly process was extra difficult, this still remains one of the most badass diecast playsets ever!

Had this set as a kid. My ALL TIME FAVORITE TOY. I remember spending countless hours playing with this set
That’s awesome. I’m so happy to finally have one - I always thought it was one of the coolest, most unique sets HWs has ever made.
So THIS is where the idea for the 2001 game Hot Wheels Extreme Racing came from
I’m kinda surprised the idea for a desecrated lady liberty passed for a kids set especially back when parents really cared about that sorta thing. Personally I think it’s really sweet but that HAD to be an awkward pitch that somehow passed the suits “so the idea is that it’s lady liberty but her face pops out and she’s now a post apocalyptic base”
Haha that’s what I thought too - that’s why I said the 90s were the different time in the video bc I really, really doubt they would be able to make a set like this nowadays for multiple reasons.
@@64Wheelswell, few years back, lego made a liberty statue apocalypse base aswell, for the lego movie 2!
They also news it in the Lego movie 2
Thank you so much for your video! I loved this toyline so much as a kid. I collected all the cars, the Liberty Base and even the Battle Copter (all sealed). I don't know why, but to had this as a child was so cool and they don't make toys like this anymore. A kind of kid friendly Mad Max set :)
i think this is the line that i had the individual cars, IF they had detachable and interchangeable weapons... 0:45 YES !!! THAT WAS IT
Clicked cause I remember having one of these as a kid. It was a fun playset. The cars etc were pretty cool too.
As someone who owned this in 98 I enjoyed seeing it again. It was always such a pain to assemble, You kind of see why few have survived. With Everything just barely held together, and missiles and exploding battle action bits to lose.
Definitely a pain, ha. Now I know why it’s so hard to find complete out of the box because of how many parts there are too lose too! Cool set though and I wish they made more stuff like this now (but making it easier to put together).
seal the stickers with modge podge OR spray sealant from your craft store.
When you have stickers that act this way use a Hair Dryer and warm the Glue then can pill them so easy.
It's so nice to see this playset complete and in working condition finally! I bought an incomplete, used set in the 2010s and I think the light switches never worked for me. I can't even remember if I have the helicopter, though. Thanks!
I recall seeing these on clearance and passed but always wondered about it with the Mad Max - Escape From New York vibe. Really impressive how much detail went into it.
Plaid Stallions just did a video on the Tonka series that looks like it would work with this, if this were bigger, or that was shrunk. Metal Monsters, i think
These toys weren’t available in the country where I live, but I was lucky enough to get the helicopter and a few cars on a vacation. I loved them as a kid, super awesome! Great quality, plenty details and overall well made and great design. Liberty Base was featured on the packaging for the toys I got, but I knew it would never be possible for me to get it. Oh how many nights I spent in my bed looking at those pictures.
Dang, this looks nice, sadly I wasn’t alive in this time, would have really enjoyed this lol
Overall, really really awesome playset! That Liberty statue centerpiece is EVERYTHING. I absolutely love that tower. The inside layout inspires my imagination, with all the different little details. My favorite details were the machine gun nests in the crown. The two "domino" pieces on either side of the console. The winding staircase on the top level. The missile launcher actually has a place for the unused missiles to store. The bottom floor sticker with the character "rugs" looks fantastic!
Great review! Thanks for sharing this one. It was good to see.
Thanks! I really enjoy this set and even after unboxing and building it I’m sure I missed some of the finer details. It’s just such a unique set that I don’t think will ever be duplicated.
Wow, it’s hard to imagine that this was a Hot Wheels set. They don’t do things like these anymore
Nice video review of an old classic playset.
Had this as a kid and play with it until it was broken, but somewhere i have the cars in a box but i think not more completed 😅 today i feel good reminders to old toys. The Toys today are not the same good things like in the 90s. Mummys Alive Figures. Hot Wheels with the other Mad Max Cars and so much more...
Oh wow a set I never knew existed 😯😯 I'd be cool to own one today
Wooow es increible, jamas habia ese producto de hot wheels, todos los detalles son asombrosos!
This is epic!
I do hope you will find some early 2000s playsets also to review with because that was my childhood era.
That was a great era too - I’ll have to see what I can find that’s extra cool from that era.
Such a cool playset, it'd probably give me a migraine to put it together so I'm glad I just get to watch you mess with it
Haha it definitely gave me a headache I can tell you that one. The stickers alone were a process I don’t want to repeat anytime soon.
please have a look to LEGO set nr. 70840! same idea!
Fantastic set bro 💯🔥 incredible.
Thanks man I really like this one!
🎉
I remember crying because I foolishly believed, including all the figures looking back xd
I had it years after it debuted, it was discontinued, and it was from the sales area of a Walmart type store
I didn't even remember anything other than hotwels, if someone had asked me, I would have said it was from scape from ny... or whatever they say, the snake movie xd. A sorcerer disappeared it
I want to add i hope you will find the Matchbox Metropolis which was the Superman Returns from 2006-07 and i think also the expensive playset because it was licensed by DC Comics.
I have one of the Batman sets from around that time but I don’t think I have that one 🤔
put the crown on your head, see if it fits!
This is what happened if New York got sunken
By hot wheels
Some Day After Tomorrow type sinking vibes
This so reminds me of Escape From New York.
Haha it does give those type of vibes off.
@@64Wheels I can’t believe I completely forgot about this play set.
This was it back in the day 🤌
This set is completely awesome, I love the retro look of this toy and what this set provides, But it definitely has poor sticker placement and the parts makes it difficult to put together.
Def agree - the stickers and build quality were a miss, but man the rest of the set is rad.
@@64Wheels Yeah it really is
Why does Road Wars sound like a Pixar Cars version of Star Wars.😁
Haha it really does🗽🛸
I know you were dying for that set😂
Haha I was! It’s cool to have it finally but man was it a pain to put together. Almost 3 hours to do the video!
I know what it’s like to get old sets that are now rarely and even rarely complete and functional
Thinking about to do what you do (showing old sets that I played with and what I was wishing in my childhood for) also what I collected over the years is slowly becoming a half room and my excuse (it’s for the kids to play) is fading away
Can you do the Hotwheels Volcano Shoot Out Playset?
I probably won’t be doing that one anytime soon as I don’t have it and it’s like $300 on eBay right now lol. Looks awesome though
@@64Wheels maybe someday though
I have that liberty base whit 6 cars, check it on my 2nd channel HOT WHEELS MX
Lego stole this
