    That's one of the oldest malls in Kenya put up in 1992. Glad to see you out and about the city. Now we want to see you patronise malls on Thika road and Mombasa road neighbourhoods.

      @@alexchui3511 It was actually opened in 1988. Adams Arcade was the first, built in the 1950s, And the Mall Westlands is quite old. Roger Whittaker's family used to run a grocery store there before redevelopment.

    If you want really good Chinese food, just walk across next door to China Town. You can ask for ice with your juice. Just that ice isnt common except in pubs.

    • @BeyondTravelCheckIns
      @BeyondTravelCheckIns  Місяць тому

      We’d love some really good shrimp or pork fried rice and bbq wings. What address would we tell the Uber driver to get us to China Town? How close is it to the Yaya Center?

    • @alexchui3511
      @alexchui3511 Місяць тому +3

      @@BeyondTravelCheckIns China Town is just down the road, literally same area where the mall is. Head North like a kilometre away as if you are headed to CBD/downtown. For best seafood try Mawimbi seafood restaurant on Kijabe street not far from Westlands. I've heard they've won many awards and recognitions for seafood and service. An African American called Troy White consults and markets its business.

    • @martino6205
      @martino6205 Місяць тому +1

      There's China Town and China City, both next to each other, but Town is more famous for its food. Just tell the Uber driver to take you to China Town in Kilimani. It's same area with Yaya Center. And just as the previous comment says, if you want seafood, then Mawimbi on Kijabe Road is most popular in Nairobi. Another one is South African seafood chain restaurants called Ocean Basket at Westgate Mall on Mwanzi Road. Otherwise you'd have to travel to Diani, Shela or Watamu on the Indian Ocean.

    • @jamyw

      @@BeyondTravelCheckIns just keep going down the road past the yaya centre entrance that you used. It's less than 5mins from yaya centre.

      @BeyondTravelCheckIns  Місяць тому +1

      Ocean Basket has been recommended to me by several people. What makes me hesitant is that it’s empty every time I am at the mall. In the US, that’s a sign of bad food. I think it is probably different here in Nairobi, because several people recommend it to me. I will take a chance and give it a try. 😁

      😆 Things are definitely changing a lot in Nairobi. I first went to Westgate mall in 2017, and today it looks totally different. I appreciate the development in Nairobi. It’s making it the top tourist destination in Africa and number place for Black Americans to move.

      @ Yeah it is insane how rapid things have changed. Kenyans like to imitate African American and Jamaican culture, which can bring a sense of belonging. I totally get what you’re saying. Sometimes we tell Kenyans we know, not to imitate everything about the west. Especially the young ladies here. They are heavy into our female entertainment culture and believe that is a representation of American women, but that’s a rant for another day. ☺️
