Still regularly listening to this mix. I actually fell in love with "4th Bouquet" (whose real name is "Shipwrecked"). What an hidden gem it is! I didn't know this track before. I love his way to break the track at 1:16:23. A real work of storyteller. Also, so much organic subtlety in the melody... No wonder Lawrence used to be a gardener... hehe
Ah, yes you're right it is called "Shipwrecked", that'll teach me to get distracted when I'm editing video! (now corrected in description at least). Yeah I like tracks that change trajectory half way through, he does it with 'Flashlights' too. I had no idea he used to be a gardener....! Glad you're still enjoying the mix, hope life treating you well 😃
I must thank you for getting me into techhouse, microhouse and deephouse. I found your The Field mixes a while back and loved the atmosphere and how well I could study with it on in the background. I eventually wanted to listen to more artists and you don't disappoint on your channel! I found the Kettenkarusell and Giegling mixes and later found the Lawrence mixes too. Now I always have one of your mixes on while studying and I just get into the flow, it's amazing :D
Fucking hell, this is veeeery cool. I'm sinking into this mix, tremendous video-work as always 10/10, thank you for introducing me to all these artists I would not have heard of.
Stellar track selection. You start with an overlooked but fantastic track (definitely his golden era for me, his sound design was so stylish and unique), then followed by "TV", one of my fav from Sten. So... dark and anxious. Sounds like samples or synths from old black & white movies. It sounds like the opposite of the very polished sound from his recent works. Here it's dusty and nearly "industrial". I also love his "untitled" track from the hamburgerberg ep. It sounds like looped sorrows. Haunting. Thanks for this mix! : )
Thank you so much Loup. Yes the early material has more grain and grit - I think he often sampled orchestral strings and pitched them down, as did Carsten Jost. A revelation for me was hearing Sten's 'Third Season' again after many years - what a tune! I'll no doubt be returning to Dial again soon :)
Hey Loup, btw think I've found the Hambergerberg "Untitled" sample. Are you a 'trekkie' at all? The last season of Deep Space Nine - the par wraith story...
@@TheDaddyO44 Hey TheDaddy! I did not see your last message from two weeks ago. Yeah indeed I think he used quite a lot of orchestral samples (a special touch that, imo, gave this timeless and romantic feeling in his early tracks). There's quite an overlooked track from him that appeared in a compilation called Politronics in 2003. The track is "No Way". In this one you can hear an evident sample of Wagner. Yeah Carsten did it too, Pantha Du Prince as well, many Dial guys actually. It seems that most of them now gave up this formula. I have never watched anything related to Star Trek, but I tried to find the episode you're talking about, with no result. Do you have the name of it? I'd be very curious to hear this original source. : )
Respect, you really know your Dial ;) That timeless feeling in the early stuff you describe is also because of slowing down the samples which makes them sound older, foggier, and more distant - like memories. I hear that in a lot of older Giegling releases too. Bear with me - I'll find the right DS9 episode, I only watched it again recently...
DS9 Season 7 - episode 19 - last scene (Gul Dukat and Kai Winn). I'm actually not sure whether it's a sample of the underscore or just the same chords...
1am here in paris , rolling a big joint and starting this mix
