Thank you so much Sharon, I never imagined the polychromes would be so vibrant on the black, because they do layer like semi transparent watercolour! Wow, I will have to get myself some black paper during the week! I'm itching to try them on black now. Big hugs. I hope your hip is beginning to show some signs of improvement. I know very well how even a little improvement can make life a whole lot easier.

Sharon Cullen Art that's exactly how I got into the pencils, and I can use them while bed bound and flat on my back. Watercolour isn't easy on those days, though I did try lol! When I'm really sore and can't concentrate but need focus to help give stimulation away from the nerve pain, muscle spasm and cluster headaches, I use them with colouring books, so I can focus, but I don't need to think too hard. The back paper wold give me another option for those days too, so thank you.

Thankyou for this video! I have had a set of Faber Castell pencils for years but never really used them (or colour pencils in general) and they ended up in a tin of stuff to give away.. until now! I'm going to try them on my black paper pad. Love the tip to layer them with the white.

So, colored pencils work well on black. Good. I plan to do some cards on black paper.

I love this notebook. Got is for $9 on sale. The paper is thick enough to handle my opaque watercolors! Fantastic.

Derwent drawing work best on anything but white, toned, tan and black paper makes them shine the most.
Also polychromos pencils are round, yet the pencil you drew with in the polychromos section was hexagonal(albrecht dürer?)

    • @SharonCullenArt
      @SharonCullenArt  3 роки тому

No They were Polychromos. Check year of video?

    • @MiraSmit

@@SharonCullenArt Sorry, but three years ago the polychromos were round too, they always have been. You were NOT coloring the polychromos section with a round pencil, this two were hexagonal. The Albrecht Dürer on the other hand are hexagonal and watercolor, different shapes to tell them apart.

Ha! You’re really not going to give up on this are you? Come on over and you can search my studio for an Albrecht Durer pencil. When you find any let me know because I have been wanting to purchase them.

@@SharonCullenArt They're available on Amazon for like 160 dollars for 120 pencils right now, the Albrecht Dürer that is.
I've just never seen an hexagonal polychromos before....

@@MiraSmit I paused the video at 3:34 & 4:08ish (that one doesn't really pause well, you just have to pay attention) when the pencil name was shown. She accidentally picked up Prismacolors (presumably Verithins since they are hexagonal) when she was going over her Polychromos swatches.

Another interesting video to watch - this time, on the somewhat unusual topic of coloured pencil on black paper. You cover such a diverse range on your channel that there's just no chance of any of us getting complacent. I think it's one of the reasons that your viewership is continuing to grow (just about to hit 1,500 subscribers tonight I see) ... we just never know what you're going to do next! LOL Having said that, the one thing we all want you to do next is to start feeling better and hopefully this week will see that happen (even my little dog, Pepe, has his paws crossed for you). Take care and best wishes from the Floridiot, Brian.

Could sealing your drawings after your done help with the deposits? I wish I would have looked into the Faber Castell. I have the Prismacolor. Hope you are feeling better. I understand pain as well. I have cervical spinal stenosis and arthritis. I'm still able to work but, Wisconsin winters take a toll on me. Feel better and love the ballerina slippers too!

Sharon Cullen Art you poor thing. Pain meds are awful and I understand why you have PTSD! I ended up going the "herbal" ingestion route and getting off pharmaceuticals. All Doctors wanted to do was cut me open and dope me up. Acupuncture was a Godsend as well.
Well, I rub paraffin wax on my pages and it seems to help or use wax/deli paper to put between "tacky" pages. I secure it with some washi and cut it to size. I used to do a ton of mixed media with Liqutex matte medium and it always seemed tacky. Acrylics were the same. I wanted to use my books to the fullest extent so that's what I found to work the best. They just are a bit fatter now. I just strap them shut with belly bands that are actually elastic headbands you can find at the dollar store.

Considering col-erase was erasable, it’s surprising how pigmented and vibrant they were :o

Yeah they really are. If I were doing a watercolor I would have kept it lighter, but they look cool in sketches too, with watercolor over them.

I just swatched out the Polychromos and Caran D'ache Luminance on black paper. I found the Polychromos to be too translucent. I got much better, more opaque results with the Luminance. Albrecht Durer Watercolour pencils work well on black paper as well.

I'm not sure what kind of white paper you're looking for. Would this be for colored pencil work? For that I would use Bristol because it has very five toothache will leave less grain showing through.

it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Overall though I would say Prismacolor premier white is very opaque.
