I noticed u mention reacting to the album!!! Personally, I think a whole album reaction up next for me would be better as a lot of the songs are better in the context of the entire project, Frailty has an overarching theme several repeated motifs and transitions between songs!!! Just a heads up :)
I think the meaning of the song is that Jane wishes she could be in the clothes of her past self knowing how things turned out. Casting the roles, walking down the aisle with someone you've never met, etc. represents her trying to conform to an identity that other people laid out for her. At the end she says that someone told the subject that their "future don't revolve around art", like her family members may have told her to quit pursuing music as part of a rejection of her identity. Being in her past self's clothes would give her the confidence to reject all of these oppressive thoughts with the knowledge that everything worked out in the end.
This track is moreso a straightforward pop banger. While it most definitely has something to say, at the same time it is a song you can just enjoy the vibe and musicality of while turning your brain off!! This is also why the song's considered as one of the fan favorites And if it makes u feel better, this is one of is not the only track on Frailty in this specific lane of pop
listen to “girl next door” by copperpot to hear the inspiration for this song!! jane interpolates this song in your clothes (don’t remember the exact moment off the top of my head)
That's also one of the best ones from Frailty!!! Thank u for all the jane reactions so far she's my fave artist rn :)
