the battery light coming on when revving means the alternator is going out, NOT the battery..its a trick warning like a trick question... the clutch master cylinder rod needs to be adjusted (its a threaded rod) to the oem specs that can be found in most honda manuals to get the correct free play up top and correct engagement and disengagement points...i believe you should have around 1 inch of free play on the pedal before you actually feel clutch pressure. both are easy fixes...nice lude by the way!
Just bought white lude.. 1989 3rd gen last month. Found your page and watch all of it. Its getting rare here in malaysia. Right now im swapping B20A to H22A1 engine.. still in progress... Woot woot
On my old 89 Prelude, it ate alternators like crazy. What was happening, is the heat from the exhaust manifold was frying them. My Dad and I created a DIY heat shield for the alternator which helped a lot.
Hey man, just ran thru most of your videos. I have had my 91 4WS for about the same amount of time (~3 years). It is my first go at DIY/project car, helluva way to start... but I completely agree with the visibility/go-kart feel; 4WS makes that even better. Appreciate you taking the time to chronicle/ share insight as you build yours back up. Thanks for all the tips & honest input. If I find myself in FL for a meet, I will def swing by.
I appreciate the feedback, and thanks so much for watching. They are amazing cars and all the hard work is totally worth it. I'm glad there are people like you saving these cars from becoming forgotten. Lots more to come for my Prelude. It's just a matter of $$$!
One of the nicest cars I've ever owned. Extremely reliable too, even though mine was quite old. To my eyes, the 3rd gen Prelude was the best-looking car on the road, in its day. Unfortunately, the paper-thin body steel rusted out while the engine still had a couple of hundred miles left on it. That's the price of living in a salty, coastal environment.
I have a 1989 Honda Prelude S carbureted, 288,000 miles. Found the main relay (fuel pump cut off) was loose and a little cruddy. It was shorting out the ignition module often. Sanded and fitted the main relay tightly back in. New fuel filters, wires tight etc. Running like a charm. I was not the mechanic just the researcher learning from the Honda-tech board. Do you notice the coolant needs to be burped? seemed to disappear. ( no leaks) then opened the overflow and the radiator cap - burp, topoff the coolant another burp. drive 40 miles repeat the coolant burp until the coolant stays full and put.
my first real car was an '88 2.0Si 5spd that I later swapped the 4-wheel steering onto from a wrecked donor. We didn't have a lot of information back then so I was kind of experimenting with things as I could afford - ended up with a Chikara 4-2-1 header, Catco high-flow cat, custom crush bent 2.5" exhaust, ebay adjustable cam gears (+4 intake / -4 exhaust to try to reduce default negative overlap as much as possible), B18A intake cam (slightly more aggressive and advanced timing than any b20a5/b21a1 factory intake cam), hand-polished intake manifold, bored 60mm throttlebody, custom in-bumper cold air intake, filled all motor mounts with 80A urethane, B-series 12lb flywheel with stage 1 racing clutch, custom steel strut tower bars, urethane sway bar bushings, stainless steel braided brake lines. I had a stock ITR LSD to get installed but never got around to it, also had an Integra ECU to chip and meant to street tune but also never had time. Got a spare bottom end to build a B20A/VTEC motor but also never got to it. Miss that car but I'm just over 6'4" and had to gangsta-lean way too much. Still was a blast though.
You need to check out my newer videos. Everything you listed I basically have done plus lots more. I also have dyno runs to back it up! Sounds like your Lude was rad. Thanks for watching!
Sorry for being late! I've completely binged your lude playlist. This was my exact first car. 91, White, B21. That was back in 05. I'm now looking to buy this car again due to your channel. What an awesome job on your behalf! But now I've got to build one and it's gonna blow a hole in a wallet! :)

@@ExtremeDailyDrivers hey instead of your t shirt saying "save the pop ups" can you make one that says " show us your pop ups" using the same photo of the lude. Lol
Just straight up the B21A, is known as an oil burner, as I found out, Honda used a coating called FRM on the inside of the cylinders. They used that to reduce heat as the cylinders were close together. Turns out that FRM was so hard it wore the rings down, hence the oil burning. I bought a prelude w/a 21A that the motor was done as one of the cylinders was really scored. I planned to get a machine shop to bore it out, but 6 shops in Toronto refused as they said the FRM would damage their lathes. I ended up putting a B20 in it, and all was good. Best of luck with you Lude man, I love the 3rd Gen Prude.
All true. Good machine shops can bore them. Mine was. Does it burn oil? Yep. No getting around that, but honestly almost every Honda engine from the 90s will burn some oil. Make sure to check out my newer Prelude videos to see how far the car has come!
Looking forward to it because the machine shops that wouldn't take a run at the B21A. Still happy with the B20 though got no complaints. I'll check out your other vids for sure. My Prelude drives like and handles like an Audi. I guess our machine shops in Toronto suck cause they wouldn't bore that B21 out. However the B20 was a tight fit but it got bolted in fine. Excellent classic car.
Its because the engine is tuned to compensate for the airflow restriction from the exhaust. Get your ecu retuned if you want to run a higher airflow exhaust.
It does drive nice. It's certainly not fast, but seems to get stronger everyday. I can't wait for the engine break in to be over so I can beat the hell out it!
Beautiful Car!!! Preludes are my fav! IM trying to find a 3rd and 4th gen Preludes to restore. I hadnt seen anyone address this in the comments so the Exhaust issue... The reason why open headers and straight pipes kill HP is because you loose the scavenging effect of the exhaust, you also have pressure waves bouncing back choking the motor...."no backpressure" isnt really a thing. It's the scavenging and backwards pressure waves (which have the same effect, but not exactly the same thing).
Hey, it's me from the future. I like your xB and Miata content so I figured I would see where your channel originated. Guess what.....I dig the Prelude content as well. It'll take me awhile, but I am going to see most of your videos. Keep up the great work. Toaster love from Indy

Were you figuring to not drive the Prelude in the summer months? Congrats on getting the Prelude rollin’ again!
Thanks for watching, Nate! And thank you for the feedback. I will be driving the Prelude in the summer, hopefully everyday. Believe it or not, I drive with the windows down all summer long in my XB that has AC. You get used to the heat. Both the Lude and XB flow air so well that you only miss AC when you are not moving.
Extreme Daily Drivers That Florida humidity is a killer. Looking forward to your future CT200h transmission fluid change video. Your lighting in the Prelude bay of your garage is a definite plus for your videos.
A lot of the things you are enjoying about the car are things I miss about mine. I loved my Prelude, and probably more after I sold it. So tempted to find another one.. but that means another car... is there such a thing as too many?
Don't need IACV coolant lines in florida but you DO NEED them in cold places like Vermont. Also, will you be putting the AC system in? I can't imagine you not having them in Florida.
No AC. Yes it’s hot, but I can deal with it. It crowds the engine bay up too much. My xB has a AC for those days when I need to stay cool. And yes, you probably need those coolant lines in VT, but I would probably delete them anyway.
This was my first new car red 1988 SI 5 speed with out the four wheel steer. It was a great car for its time and if you could get one restored... The interior looks to be in great condition, even the seats look original. What is the intention for this car? No heat or AC? Is this going to be a track car? So the car was $600 how much for all the upgrades? realistically?
So I'm 2 years late, but I'm buying a 3rd gen prelude and was looking to replace the exhaust. I've actually got exactly the same parts picked out as you except for 2.5" trubendz pipes instead of 2.25". Do you know if the OBX racing header is 2.25" at the collector's exit? I'm trying to figure out if I'll need an adapter or not. Thanks!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Thanks! And I'll check it out for sure man, just happened to come across your channel today when I was looking for prelude stuff.

Dude, if that battery is giving you problems, get a Lithium-Ion Antigravity battery. I have one in my 3rd gen, and it's flawless so far. Weighs under 5 lbs.!
I would love that bouncy idle video. My 91 prelude is doing the same annoying idle surge. I've found that when I disconnect the map sensor vacuum line the engine stops surging.
I have a 1991 prelude slb with the 2.1 b21a1 I'm gonna need to get a new motor for eventually here soon do to worn rings. Do you know we're I can get one for around 200$?
You can get a remanufactured head for about $350. Finding a short block is what's hard. It took me a couple of months to find a used b21a block. People will tell you to just put an H22 in, but it's going to be $4k for the swap and you can't go as low as you can with the b21a.
It's easy, but difficult to get too if you have AC and PS. It's at the front of the engine bay mounted to the bottom of the transmission. It's two 12mm bolts and then you have to disconnect it from the clutch hard line. After you install the new one you have to bleed the system. For the clutch line you can just gravity bleed it. Good luck!
Hi, I have a question, I want to delete no necesary sensors that you show in vídeo, but I don't know if the ECU are going to show fault codes? Thanks I must appreciated the help bring un your videos. I have a 91 Lude Si 4ws
4-stroke engines do not need back pressure, back pressure is nothing but lost power, 2-stroke engines are the ones that need some backpressure to handle unburnt fuel
Someone plz link me up to a site where I ca get a complete b21a1. I cat fid oe anywhere. Also my MacBooks key is broke which is why my spelling is cheeks.
It's so weird. When I first went to back it out of the garage, I couldn't get it in gear. I was totally baffled. Now I'm used to it, but it's still strange. It made me think I installed the clutch incorrectly.

Nope!! Make sure you check out my newer Prelude videos. The car has come a long way!!
Fuck yea you inspired me to put k sports and rota grids with fire hawk tires
Hell yeah! That's awesome. Thanks for watching! Don't let anyone give you any crap about running Rota's! There is nothing wrong with them!
I got my first car last month which was a blue 3rd gen and I'm loving it. I just wish it wasn't automatic :(
I wish it wasn't too. :(
this makes me miss my 5th gen, damn
This was my first new car red 1988 SI 5 speed with out the four wheel steer. It was a great car for its time and if you could get one restored... The interior looks to be in great condition, even the seats look original. What is the intention for this car? No heat or AC? Is this going to be a track car?
So the car was $600 how much for all the upgrades? realistically?
It's mostly a show car. ua-cam.com/video/FCMavO-pXM0/v-deo.html
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Well, you certainly put a lot of love into this car, great job!
Thanks! It's been a real learning experience.
i love these prelude gen
I could use some help on a build for my 1991 prelude
Sooo clean man ..
Glad you like it! Make sure you watch my latest Prelude video to see the finished product!
Absolutely looking forward to it
Honda, danzig, misfits... I sub
Nice prelude
Fangs for the follow!
Hi cool following your lude's progress. What catback and headers are you using?
extremedailydrivers.com/building-the-perfect-exhaust/
My mans Megan Racing exhaust all the way for preludes whatchu doingggg!!!
Another good option!
I have a fifth gen prelude all this stuff your deleting can this be applied to mine as well
Gl getting one now for 600. Prices went wayyy up
You can still find a POS like mine for cheap, but it involve a lot $$$ to make respectable.
Thanks!
I think it's 2.25. Make sure you check out my latest Prelude videos. The car has come a LONG WAY since this video.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Thanks! And I'll check it out for sure man, just happened to come across your channel today when I was looking for prelude stuff.
If you think about it 🤔 this model prelude is the closest thing to the nsx as far as looks now that's just me ok them lights are the key plus it's true jdm all the way luv it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Absolutely. The NSX was loosely based off of the Prelude. Thanks for watching.
Yesss been waiting on the lude bro
Thanks so much for watching.
DC Sports used to make a 4-2-1 ceramic or stainless steel coated headers.
Yes, good luck finding one in New or Used condition!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Got one on mine, ceramic coating flaking though
I'm dying for one. 😣
Prelude pop-up lights [mic drop] ☆
Yep. Winning.
On a side note why did you change the steering wheel? I absolutely love mine it feels amazing and looks great in there.
Theres a plunger under the brown cap too
hey man just subscribed love yourchannel
i too have a 91 lude felly built but h22a engine swap
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. Good luck with the H22. I’m uploading a new video as we speak! Stay tuned!
Where can I find the motor mounts for the 1991 prelude
eBay
Do you know where I can buy parts for this car? It seems hard to find anything and I dont know what sites to trust
Check out my other videos. I have links to pretty much everything I install. You have to search for stuff. It's not a 92-95 Civic. Good luck.
Rock auto is a good site, eBay works too for rarer parts.
Hi just need clarify that the clutch pedal to the floor issue was fix by only the slave cylinder only or both?
Just the slave.
Ok, thx for reply. Was that easy or hard to replace?
It's easy, but difficult to get too if you have AC and PS. It's at the front of the engine bay mounted to the bottom of the transmission. It's two 12mm bolts and then you have to disconnect it from the clutch hard line. After you install the new one you have to bleed the system. For the clutch line you can just gravity bleed it. Good luck!
Ludes 4 Life 👍
You need some back pressure to allow for scavenging to actually suck exhaust gases out. Without that, you get far worse performance.
Hi, I have a question, I want to delete no necesary sensors that you show in vídeo, but I don't know if the ECU are going to show fault codes? Thanks I must appreciated the help bring un your videos. I have a 91 Lude Si 4ws
Watch some of more recent videos for the answers. Thanks for watching!
why did you get rid of the air conditioner?
It didn't work and it took up too much room in the engine bay.
Just picked up a 91. Any sites that carry aftermarket parts you'd recommend?
Unfortunately no,
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers it's hard to find anything for these cars! Thanks though dude!
about to swap h22a into my 91
You loose power cause back pressure those older b series need back pressure for power
LOSE. NOT LOOSE
That’s a myth
4-stroke engines do not need back pressure, back pressure is nothing but lost power, 2-stroke engines are the ones that need some backpressure to handle unburnt fuel
Does yours have idle hop? And have you fixed it
It idles perfectly. Watch my "Bouncing Idle" video to find out how I repaired it.
Alright thank you...nice video learned alot lol just looking
Where can I get that header and the intake. ? I have a 1990 si 4WS
I got the header off of ebay and the intake is custom.
Thanks for reply and info, I will looking into it
Did this car have custom bumpers
Nope. Stock.
im jealous, mine was 3k lmao
but it is in great condition :)
I had a manual choke installed.
Where did you get the hub for the quick release I can’t seem to find one for mine I also have a 3rd gen
Amazon or eBay. I can’t remember.
What catback do you have again? I am going to do my whole exhaust system on mine.
TruBendz
Thank you
Currently fixing up a 1991 2.0 si honda prelude as my first car! broken iacv where it won't idle. And a rear main seal oil leak great car though
Easy fixes, Bro. You got this!!!
You still have the a/c parts?
Nope.
I have an 1989 4ws. Love it. Came without the AC special order. AC is standard option but this person didn't want it. 😒
Heard about u from honda street garage i got the same Car bit its red
Thanks for watching!
You should get 2 car alarms on that car lol ask me how I know ;) lolol
Yeah buddy. First like and comment 🙌🏼👌🏼
You are awesome!
Had a 90 4WS got rid of it biggest mistake in my life
If it was clean, yeah, should have kept it. These cars are impossible to find clean.
I had a black 88 Si with 4ws. It had gold BBS wheels too. I loved that car and I definitely regret selling it.
2 brake fluids ??
The gearing in those ludes are so long, it makes them feel slower than they are
adam s I'd rather be able to go 200 than a little over 140

Do you know about the IAT resistor trick?
No. What’s the trick!?!?
Kocham preludy ;)
And a 5 speed transmission?
Yes Sir. It's stock.
Where can I get the b20a EGR delete and the fast idek valve solenoid delete?
Mine were custom made, but you can do a google search and find them for other B series engines. I'm sure they will fit.
Do you remember where you got it done ?
It was a one off from a guy off of pp.com.
What's pp.com? Nothing shows on that page
preludepower.com
I just got a phoniex red 3rd gen honda prelude si 4ws for 600
Nice! Good luck with it!! I made like 50 videos about the Lude. Make sure you check them out for how-tos and ideas
Debating on getting an 88 prelude with bent valves for $275
What's the debate? You can't lose money on a $200 car.
how can i get the detachable steering wheel...
There are lots of options. Thanks for watching!
Someone plz link me up to a site where I ca get a complete b21a1. I cat fid oe anywhere. Also my MacBooks key is broke which is why my spelling is cheeks.
My clutch is the total opposite of yours lol mine bites just off the floor.
It's so weird. When I first went to back it out of the garage, I couldn't get it in gear. I was totally baffled. Now I'm used to it, but it's still strange. It made me think I installed the clutch incorrectly.
Get MustardCats RSB. Transforms the car
It's on my list!
Ba4 love
Where did you get the fast idle valve delete?
It's custom, but you can make your own out of a piece of aluminum or you can check out ebay. I think any block off plate for a B-series will work.
I have 91 ef si red 95 thousand miles mainly stock just some function and form and si wheels anyone want to trade for a si prelude ? Really trying to get my hands on a prelude
