One of my all time favourite programmes, ever! It was a fascinating story but also a comedy gem, not least because of Simon. So many immortal lines, I think my favourite was, when comforting a distraught Phiippa, 'you know, he could have had a hunchback and still have been a nice guy.' 😂

There were two things that impressed me when I first watched that program. First, the arrogance and bad manners of the "professionals" from the university, second, Simon's good manners and kindness to Philippa when she was upset.

This shows how serious they really took the idea of finding him was. They were going to do a 3 day archeology comedy skit. Hope to find the church they were looking for anyways.
On another note: I’ve seen where Philippe says that the university didn’t give her credit. I’ve watched the footage and the university had included her and the r3 society as part as the group that found him. They made made a point to mention her. So, she was given credit.

I first saw Simon in the Mighty Boosh playing an intellectual with a head that looked like a conker. Next time I saw him he was looking over Richard III's skeleton whilst a batshit crazy lady fawned over it. Quite the leap.

By the sounds of it they were going to initially be taking the piss out of the people who initiated the dig, and then had to get super serious about it when it turned out that the Ricardians were right. That's why, by the sounds of it, they were offering Simon the job, because Horrible Histories was a comedic history program.
I actually thought that it was a really good documentary, as was the follow up, so it's a real shame that all they offered him after that was, by the sounds of it, a totally ridiculous program and a total waste of his talents. I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing him doing more historical documentaries

I don't think it is a shame Simon got out of Documentary making - the result is we have lots more of Simon doing Ghosts and writing and staring in blockbuster films - presenting documentaries would be (to me) a waste of this guys immense talents. But if you are super-into documentaries hosted by Simon - I suppose I have no chance in convincing you otherwise! ;-)

Ricardians do often seem strange and Phillipia seems to be dramatic. BUT as she was moaning about goose bumps and vibes while looking at an R in a car park, she was standing on years and years of research done by a man who was working with her named John Ashton Hill, who'd been saying for years and years after years and years of research he believed he'd pinpointed the burial of King Richard 3rd of England to a car park and even joked about there being an R as if it had been placed there by fate. JAH often moved and spoke in fashions some people would consider odd and he was easily pushed aside, by both Phillipia and Lester University and is often ignored. But Lester University was not looking at a parking lot because of a lucky hunch by a group of superstitious nuts as they often seem to try and lead people to think. Hill had been sending out photos of Lester social services parking lot for a decade saying Richard was likely buried under or near the R in that lot. He actually was a couple of spaces down, not directly under the R, and even Hill didn't think he was directly under the R, he just thought it was a fun twist of fate.
