The trick to bringing a cake or something like it somewhere when you've already had some, is to cut the whole thing into pieces and present them in a container separated into pieces (like with space between them not like a sliced cake in the pan you baked it in)
It was clear to see, Glen used exactly a third of a cup of sour cream. There is so much to like about this show, but the one thing I can't figure out is how Glen finishes exactly as his wife walks in the door every day. The perfection.
In my family, we'd call that a coffee cake. Looks delicious. I bet one could boost the eggnog flavor with a little added grated fresh nutmeg. I'd enjoy serving it alongside a cup of coffee with a generous splash of Irish cream! 😊❤️
Note to New people: When Glen says, “very carefully measured,” he means, “It doesn’t matter that much, stop obsessing over irrelevant granular details that kill your and other’s motivation to cook perfectly normal and accessible food.” You’re welcome.
I always marvel at your skill cracking eggs into a running mixer and not getting eggshell in the batter. Sometimes I get a bit of shell no matter how I crack them, but always into a bowl so I can retrieve shell if needed. 🤣
I eat eggs every day. Have for many years. I wouldn't ever crack an egg over the batter as Glen does. I have fished eggshell out of bowls and frying pans too many times. I don't want to try to fish them out of a batter. Egg to bowl, bowl to batter, repeat (without rinse). I just have never mastered whatever technique Glen has. Happy holidays, all.
I dearly love me an eggnog cake. My son just brought home a huge amount of eggnog for us. I was getting ready to look up the older version of this recipe to make muffins for breakfast. I even just made a huge batch of sour cream for use during the holidays… I hope you and Julie have a wonderful holiday season and many visits with your family. Much love to you both, (and Chicken, of course.)
You make your own sour cream? I'm impressed!!! I may actually look into doing that myself. Probably a healthier alternative as it wouldn't have any weird ingredients or stabilizers!
I used to use my friends and co-workers as Guinea pigs to try out new recipes (before UA-cam) 😂😂😂. If I brought home an empty dish, I saved the recipe.
I am not a huge cake fan/ dessert for that matter. But I did that Maple upside down apple cake.. OMG it was so so so yummy I think I ate most of it myself. lol Thank you I think I'll give this one a go as well.
After nearly 50 years using my Kitchen-Aid mixer and sometimes working around the awkward beater placement when I add ingredients or want to scrape the side down, I just saw you MOVE the beater by hand! I never thought of that and it will make all the difference! Thank you! (Recipe looks great, too...)
Looks good, too bad I dislike eggnog. Thought of you as I made muffins yesterday. Someone gave me bran cereal and raisins, I noticed some oranges in the fridge and made orange raisin bran muffins.
The most difficult thing about the holidays for me is narrowing down which dishes I am going to make; the choices in the internet age are nearly infinite. 😂
Hi from Australia, I’ve never had egg nog in my life. I’ve seen enough Christmas movies watching people make it and drink it, but never cooking with it.
I can almost taste that cake! 😊😊 Your videos tempt me to try so many of the recipes and they definitely give off warm fuzzies vibes. Thank you and Julie and Chicken for making life a little better for many of us.❤❤
I wish i wore aprons more...then I could justify buying on your aprons. They're really nice. It's just I rarely wear the aprons I already own... This cake looks delicious btw ❤
I tried to be cute and add my egg right into the kitchen Aid mixer while it was running and my egg went in, shell and all. I panicked and shut it off. And then spent minutes feeling through the batter to get every single piece of shell. Too frugal to throw it all out.😂
A little nutmeg for flavor perhaps? And I would not quibble at one piece gone. But I suppose you could cut all the pieces and make a pretty pyramid to fool the fusses.
Over here in the UK I haven't seen the carton of eggnog that you used. Is there anything similar that I could use? Or better still how would I make it? Just found your videos and enjoying them. Thank you :)
You could simply cut off the sides of the cake and one row, to make it square again. Then no one would know the cake ever had a piece cut out of it. For all they know, you trimmed the sides.
Sir, I can’t help noticing you sound a little, just a little congested on recent videos. Heck you feel like a family member, so I wish ‘Jules’ and you good health!! And once again, thank you for your channels!
I'm kind of the same way with food, if someone brings something that has clearly been touched, it's used food and I won't touch it. Even if there's nothing wrong with it. It's a mental thing
How do y'all buy egg nog???? In the US we have it in plastic bottles and glass bottles and cartons, all right next to each other in the store! (I think it's just the brands' preference what they choose). Our milk comes in the same variety of containers
@@SandiBee-rf3te: We have both in my house. I love eggnog and I’m looking for the perfect eggnog, whether it’s homemade or bought, so every year I try a new recipe and a new store-bought.
Most eggnog sold in US grocery stores has more sugar than milk, and more thickener than eggs. Children love it, and adults need a double shot of alcohol to cut the sticky-ness. There is ALWAYS eggnog left over. A good eggnog cake recipe let's you me!) justify the purchase. 😅
Couldn't you say the same about coffee in a coffee flavour cake? Also I don't drink eggnog because I don't like the mouth feel if it, I have a weird thing about even slightly thicker drinks, this way I could have the flavour of the eggnog season
Everybody knows what that stand mixer is (KitchenAid). There is no reason to cover the name of it. Besides, it's not the only appliance we can see the name of, and we don't care. We know it's not sponsored, unless you start plugging it, heavily. Covering the name looks goofy, and distracts attention away from the main topic.
The name is covered because I film with that mixer for paying clients (for their websites etc), and they demand that the name is covered. I just leave it covered all the time so that I don't make a costly mistake and forget to cover it next time I film for them.
I love the "carefully measured sour cream" 😂

If assume in America it's coffee cake. Probably the same thing imo
Yeah, it is basically a variant on what we (Americans) call coffee cake. It's one of those things that can be flavored all kinds of ways.

It's just extra calcium, no big deal

Make this cake recipe in muffin tins instead !

?
Don't blame the mixer... It is engineered kitchen perfection.
I love using eggnog as an ingredient… it makes an amazing rice pudding!!! French toast too! It makes an egg-cellent coffee creamer too!!!
I am really impressed with your editing skills, no noise at all from your KitchenAid ❤.
'I don't want to let people down' aww, you are the sweetest youtuber
You can tell the cake will be good and he flavours look great!!!
I wear my Glenn and Friends everyday to feed the chickens, pigs and cows!
Chicken, pigs and cows sold separately.
*_THAT_* is not a very nice way to speak of your family !!! :P
Looks yummy, I enjoy watching you over chef John on food wishes.
So moral of the story is if a neighbor has their own cooking show on youtube, don't ask them to bring something for a potluck? :)
I feel like half of the comments section got lost on the way to wherever they were going today. IT'S A COOKING CHANNEL.
eggnog flavoured sourcream coffee cake looks so yummy
Looks good, too bad I dislike eggnog. Thought of you as I made muffins yesterday. Someone gave me bran cereal and raisins, I noticed some oranges in the fridge and made orange raisin bran muffins.
You can just use milk. Or buttermilk. This is the kind of recipe that's very flexible.
Yum. Thanks.
The most difficult thing about the holidays for me is narrowing down which dishes I am going to make; the choices in the internet age are nearly infinite. 😂
I ordered an apron for my wife (I put her name on it instead of yours). It is on its way across the country.
Great Idea!
Looked delicious, Glen. Thanks. - Marilyn
carefully measured giggle
Yummmmmm!
Hi from Australia, I’ve never had egg nog in my life. I’ve seen enough Christmas movies watching people make it and drink it, but never cooking with it.
Go with more nutmeg.
Glen -- or anyone -- do you have a recipe you like for NY-style crumb cake (about half crumbs and half cake)?
It's basically this only you make twice the amount of the streusel topping.
I can almost taste that cake! 😊😊 Your videos tempt me to try so many of the recipes and they definitely give off warm fuzzies vibes. Thank you and Julie and Chicken for making life a little better for many of us.❤❤
Is your mixing bowl cracked or is it a trick of the light? See at 04:09
Also visible at 00:39 when the butter is in.
So this is how I find out that the French term for eggnog translates to "Chicken Milk"

👍🏻
Could I replace the sour cream with plain yogurt? Happy Holidays
Yoghurt has a lower fat content. You have to ask yourself how much of a difference that would make to the finished cake.

The merch pitch was hilariously low key.

You could make it yourself: ua-cam.com/video/kNZJME9Xn5s/v-deo.html
If you don't mind alcohol then you could use warninks advocaat
Use the late Professor Rebecca Lancefield’s recipe, you won’t be sorry. (Egg & booze cured for 2 weeks, cream going in today)
Thank you for the link 😊😊

Glen is there an alternatice to egg nogg?? Not something I have seen in the Uk!!
Well not in the general supermarkets I shop in!!
You could try and make your own: ua-cam.com/video/kNZJME9Xn5s/v-deo.html
Its funny eggnog was thing in the UK back in Ye Olden times but died out for some reason, and you never see it in supermarkets.
strangely it's popular in Australia at Christmas. Supermarkets sell it in litre plastic bottles.
have you thought about doing a Jewels Favorites playlist or section out of curiosity ?
I have a small bottle of rum extract, unopened. Think this recipe would be worth investing an actual bottle of a good dark rum.
How are you canceling out the noise of the stand mixer? What is this magic?!
Carefully aimed microphones.
Sir, I can’t help noticing you sound a little, just a little congested on recent videos. Heck you feel like a family member, so I wish ‘Jules’ and you good health!! And once again, thank you for your channels!
it looks good but i would of put a eggnog icing drizzle on it
Salt… maybe there’s enough salt in the butter to “carry” it or the flavors through. Just making a guess.
I'm kind of the same way with food, if someone brings something that has clearly been touched, it's used food and I won't touch it. Even if there's nothing wrong with it. It's a mental thing
All food everywhere has been touched. Multiple times.
You could just bring beer.
Posting the video on UA-cam should cut down on the number of people who ask for the recipe.
And a great way to get more views, genius idea
I think you are still in the midst of a postal strike.
Of the many ways to support you with money, which way puts the least money in a third party's pocket?
In the spirit of the season - If you could donate to a charity local to you, that helps your community; that would be great.
Egg nog in a carton? Good grief! That’s a new one on me. Whatever next? Looks good.
I’ve never seen eggnog in anything but a carton 😄🇨🇦

An eggnog cake sounds great, but the question is, why not just drink it, though?
You have eggnog with your eggnog cake.
I always hit a no-more-eggnog point. Good way to use up the last of it.

It has never distracted me. In fact, I've never even noticed thar. Who cares?
