OMG. I had the same first reaction to the Birkin. I lusted after that bag for over 10 years before I pulled the trigger. I opened it and thought, “IIt’s a damn tote!” 😂. I ended up selling it to Fashionphile.

I love your honesty. At the end of the day, it's a leather bag. I appreciate good quality and craftsmanship and have always been very curious about Hermes Birkin and Kelly bags, but it's good to be realistic, because, at the end of the day they're JUST BAGS.
Recently, I watched a UA-camr with a bag and shoe restoration business. He filmed himself restoring a Birkin that was in very, very poor condition. It was like having the curtain pulled back on something that has captivated and held such mystique for so many of us. As he was taking the bag apart, you could see all of the materials that had gone into making the bag. His restoration of the bag was incredible. But it was also very sobering to see that a Birkin is made very similar to many of the bags we purchase for way less.

Thanks! Omg! I saw that restoration! It was something else, he recreated pretty much the whole bag. But yes, as a bag lover you are hyped up by what everyone in the community thinks is great, and sometimes it’s like, hold up.. this is cool but it’s a leather bag lol!

Thank you so much for your honest first impression. I, agree, Hermes quota bags are just leather bags (very well-made leather bags, but still…just a bag). I tried on a bunch at a consignment store and was underwhelmed. The hype is real!
Chanel bags, although not handmade, the designs make my heart sing. The style, the vibe, and the look of Chanel bags give you that “wow” factor.

Chanel bags are partially hand made
The bags don't walk on water (lol); however, they are fantastic, especially if you can get them under retail. IMHO, besides the simple and timeless designs and quality of materials and craftsmanship, the biggest benefit is being able to prolong the life of the items through the spa service. And yours, in that special color, is quite beautiful. Enjoy for years to come!

Thank you for sharing your honest opinion. It really helps me a lot. I am slowing down on my bag purchases because I purchased the same style coach bag in very close colors just because one was on sale. I thought to myself, what are you doing and why? The colors are faded purple and iced purple. One has gold hardware, and the other has silver. I know they are not Birkin handbags, but your explanation helped me get out of the " I got it because it is on sale, and Rakuten has 10 percent off." My handbags make me happy, but I am working on being more intentional towards my future purchases. I am paying attention to what I grab to use, and I plan on sending the close-color bag in the same style back. Will I ever get a Birkin? I am not sure, but I thank you for the reasoning that it is a quality leather bag. I would love to see your comparison at different price points. I am excited because I know it is going to be good. I appreciate your research and sharing.
Omg you are speaking my story!! I LOVE Coach and probably purchased over 10-15 Coach bags last year. I def have tons of styles that I have ours based over and over again in different colors. My goal was to be more intentional this year too. I was really trying to focus on what I really wanted and what I wanted to carry. I have purchased about 5 bags this year which is amazing for me, but I have to say that I really love them all. Which is cool because I got a lot of bags last year that I don’t wear but they were on sale so I jumped on the sale

Great video. I purchased a 35 red clemance Birkin and when I opened the box, i thought the exact same. Didn't fall in love like I had hoped. I think because its slouchy maybe it didn't have that wow factor even though I envisaged myself being like Jane Birkin, carrying it under my arm, all cool and casual, lol. I also questioned the size (got a tape measure out because it looked so much smaller than I imagined it to be! This is what happens when you can never actually see one in person and only just assume what it will look like) But I am happy to have purchased it. Thanks for being so honest. Happy to hear I'm not alone with these thoughts
So cool that your experience was so similar to mine. You are so correct, when you havent seen the bag in person, you can only assume for sure. I really like my Birkin now. I would like, eventually, to get it in the size 30 as well

I’m so glad you got your bag. I bought a black Hermes Birkin 35 with palladium hardware in the beautiful clemont leather at an estate sell. I’ve worn it twice😩🙄. I’m so sorry that an Elderly Lady had to pass away before I can get one but I thank her. My current wishlist consists of a navy blue RL Ricky bag, a Hermes Kelly 30 in camel with goldstone hardware, and a LV Monocamoflague Speedy 30, and my collection will be complete. Love your content. The most honest video I’ve seen on a birkin. I too wasn’t wowed when I held my first birkin. I did have that response when I held my first exotic Kelly though.

Love the bag beautiful color and I can relate about the non wow feeling I was kinda obsessed over the LV Pochette Métis Reverse Monogram, during COVID you couldn’t get it so when it finally became available I ordered quickly. I finally got it, opened it up and was like this is it..all this hype on social media, so I waited 2 weeks never picked it up and took it back and got a bag that I love now. Maybe your wow will come from the store experience.

@@pocketbookhuntress No not really! I still love my contemporary brands and probably wear them about 50-60% of the time. I try my best to not have the bags compete with one another (like I won’t buy a Lux bag in the same color or size as a contemporary bag that I have or vice versa) I typically wear the bag that best goes with my outfit honestly so they all get a spin. There was a time I was using my contemporary bags way more just because they went better with my outfit or I really liked the way they looked etc. When I started my bag collection I started with Lux bags and then started loving Coach and others. (I know that response was long winded) but I honestly like them all the same

That blue electric tory burch bag looks (and looks like it feels) twice as nice and luxurious than the one you're holding. That's just how it is in life and we all know it deep down.
The TB bag is def a great quality bag for sure. I would say the bag I’m holding feels a lot more lux from the feel of the leather. But in general I agree that a lot of our fav contemporary brands are giving us better quality than our Lux expensive ones

Looks great on you! Will you get out third party authenticated? I got a picotin on Rebag that was also outlet Final sale. It didn’t wow me even though it’s my ideal color and size. Something abt the feel of the leather. I want to trust since i can’t return it anyway but if you have an authenticator you trust i May just get a second opinion.

I can SO appreciate your honesty and unpopular opinion. I'm one of the only people I've seen (on UA-cam anyway) who isn't into a Chanel or Hermes. Absolutely no shade to those who are! I think those who are into them see something special and unique about these bags that I don't see. And sometimes I do wish I saw that unique something. However, I feel like some of my contemporary bags RIVAL my luxury bags BIG TIME! The craftsmanship of Coach is second to none when it comes to quality. Unlike some of the LV bags I've seen, I don't run into quality issues with, say, Kate Spade or Coach or Tory Burch. Do I still love my luxury handbags? No doubt! And I ain't getting rid of them. And I plan to purchase more. But this does give me cause to pause when I consider whether what I'm willing to drop thousands of dollars for is distinguished enough for me to take the plunge. That said, I still plan to get another Dior Saddle, lol. But I'm glad somebody said it out loud that sometimes some of the things we hype up (or things that get hyped up) may not be equivalent to the hype we give it. And I forgot to add.....congrats on scoring your "it" bag. You may have been underwhelm but she looks good on you. Wear her with the sassy "she cute" vibe, lol

I have said it 1k times but these contemporary brands are coming for the Lux brands necks for real. Congrats on your first Hermes, I’m an Hermes junky just an FYI be careful with organizers your bag is clemence the organizer can form a ridge where the top of organizer hits the bag. I would highly recommend samorga 1.5 felt organizer for birkin it won’t deform the bag at all. Yet congratulations on your new baby.

@@whatimontoday you’re welcome the twilly tying it took me years and it’s something you can’t really tell you have to show but there are several helpful tutorials on UA-cam, also I’m not sure if you’re aware but the only thing Hermes will not spa is the interior of the bag so be careful.
@@birkinboy3976 thanks again! I’m going to check some of the videos out because my twilly skills are trash at the moment. These ones keep loosening up. I have heard that Hermes won’t spa the inside or any bags that have been repaired elsewhere

Grllll if u ever take this to Hermes for a spa don’t tell them it was ever touched up. They won’t accept bags that were worked on by anyone outside of Hermes

Congrats on your purchase. Believe you were a bit underwhelmed due to all the equivalents you bought beforehand, and the color is close to some other existing ones in your collection. However, as you said: the bag is over 10yr old and is in pristine condition- that is what you pay for 😊

This bag needs to rest on its back when not in used. Specially on clemance leather. Otherwise, it will lose shape.

It's not " just " a tote or "just" a bag. The Birkin's workmanship is divine and it's an iconic piece. What do you expect it to do? Walk the dog? Make you a coffee? To love the Birkin is to appreciate it not for status or look at me, but for the reasons above. My opinion only of course.
Def appreciate your insight and opinion. Agree that the workmanship is pretty dang on awesome! Being a handbag lover and hearing so much hype around the bag I was def underwhelmed when first opened it. I think that I was expecting something that was "beyond" a bag based on others thoughts about it being their holy grail etc. Im def not discounting the brand because they are #1 for a reason. I have purchased other Hermes shoes and bags and loved them, but I think it was because I made my own opinion of these things seeing them for the first time on my own and not having researched and watched so many reviews etc. Those items were spectacular to me on first sight. I think that the Birkin was underwhelming to me because I had seen it so much and had hyped up the expectation of what the experience would be like to finally open up a Birkin.
