Gaffigan was my favorite comedian. He uses comedy that I could show my kids. He has a unique on-stage persona that I found appealing. I even collected his You Tube videos. And then he decided not only to become "political" but attack the morality and intelligence of anyone who supports Trump. What he (and millions of others) don't understand that 99% of Trump's supporters don't "worship" him. Trump had become a symbol and a weapon against an entitled political, academic, Hollywood, media and business elite class that openly expressed contempt for well over half of the entire country (e.g. Hillary's "basket of deplorables", Biden's "garbage", Obama's Bible and gun clingers, etc., etc.). Our tax and consumer dollars contributed a big chunk of the money that rose them to elite status and they turned around and spat on us and ridicule us. We eventually had enough. Jim doesn't regret his comments or contempt for half of his audience; what he regrets is the backlash affecting his bottom line.
You said what I feel, and I will say he thought he picked the majority, the safe side, and ran with it. He could have done well if he didn't insult and talk down to more than half of his audience. He ran with it, and I stopped looking forward to his content. Sorry Jim, you cancelled yourself.
@mriccardi825 the problem is that the people on the left think that because they follow whoever the celebrities or the MSM tell them to, that we on the right do the same. They can't wrap their brain around the concept of we support Trump because his beliefs align with ours and we're not following him because we think he's perfect or because he tells us to. We can actually think for ourselves
@edh9237 that's just it. He didn't pick a side. He already had a side. He, like many other celebrities, tried using what influence they thought they had over people to sway their vote. They thought that by insulting us that we would fall in line and support their side. And it worked well on those who can't think for themselves.

I personally don’t care if he thinks I’m an idiot for supporting Trump. My issue with this idiot is that he literally said on the Joe Rogan podcast he thinks we should have open borders because Americans have it too easy and it’s not fair to the rest of the world. Total dolt.
My husband and I also stopped watching him after listening to his interview on Rogan. Not cancel culture type, he was just off-putting with how he talked.
Nobody "cancelled" the comedian. We just stopped supporting him because its one thing to talk bad or down about the President but once you go after the voters/supporters you went too far. WE dont pay to see people talking ish about us.

That’s truly a clown cancellation.

We're never going back because the 'moral high grounders' will never admit they're wrong. Gaffigan said he regrets that Trumpers won't forgive him, not that he offended them.
I think Kat has it wrong. Cancel culture is not when people individually decide to quit a listening to someone. It's when you convince other people to stop sponsoring somebody, stop hosting someone, doxing people etc.
Exactly right. Making a personal internal decision to do or not do something is not cancel culture. I just stopped listening to him without a care what anyone else did on the matter.
Well said. Banks don’t lend to companies because they don’t meet ESG standards. Employers fire people because they refused a mandated injection. An academy refuses to consider a film for an award because it shines a light on a sacred cow issue of theirs. These are stances that, when made public, deserve the backlash from individuals. You can refuse to do business with those entities if you want to. When people get on social media and relentlessly hammer at people for things they do or don’t do, publicize their addresses, etc. and excoriate everyone who doesn’t go along with them in an effort to negatively impact their ability to make a living, those are examples of cancel culture. That is what the left has been doing for years now.

This is from a Gaffigan article in 2020: Jim Gaffigan went off on a profanity-laced Twitter rant inspired by Donald Trump’s RNC speech last week. In the days since, Gaffigan says in a new Facebook statement posted Sunday, he has gotten a lot of negative feedback, all of which seems to have made him even more glad to have voiced his frustration so publicly. Interesting. In 2020 he says the negative feedback "made him even more glad he voiced his frustration so publically. Now he has "regrets". What does he regret? Ticket sales are down?
When one such as Gaffigan sends his five kids to the most expensive schools in NYC, and lives a lifestyle beyond his means, yeah, he's gonna be sorry...sorry he isn't making more money off people he hates.
Jim G torched Dems at the Al Smith dinner. I didn't hear any conservative (and yes, I am one)complaining about him then. In fact, Gutfeld's crew was playing his stuff from that event a lot. My favorite line was when he said "Tim Walz couldn't make it tonight, but don't worry, tomorrow he will say he did."
I thought you were against canceling and making people suffer for their political beliefs. The amount of stories and whining over a conservative actor or comedian having to struggle bc of their beleifs. And now you have become exactly what you criticize
And if the truth were really told, that percentage is most likely closer to 75-80%. The Democrats who push this "democracy" crap seem to forget that in a democracy, the majority rules, not the minority.
Not believing in cancel culture, and simply just not wanting to support or do business with someone who despises your existence, are two different things.
It's not cancel culture. People are not looking for him to loose his job or actively going after him..... he insulted his fans and they are no longer fans... He still wants their money tho.
His career will be just fine, even if MAGA doesn’t buy a single tickets. There’s enough people on the other side to make sure he continues to flourish.
@@dragani2330 it’s not a political ideology, it is simple math. There is 330 millions Americans. If half of them stop buying tickets, there are still 165 potential customers for his shows. I've heard comics like Louis Black go off on Trump and politicians I liked, and it never bothered me, as we all have our opinions. When a guy says: "Hey, if you like Trump, don't go to my shows or buy my records", well... What are we supposed to do? Ignore that? Or take him at his word?
As everyone has noted in the comments, he didn't actually apologize. And it's a stone lock guarantee he never would have "apologized" if Trump had not won.
There are a few authors who acted this way as well. I have seen authors tell their readers that if they voted for Trump that they don't need to follow them or support their work. I don't understand that kind of behavior. People don't care what your politcal views. Don't demonize/insult people who are the ones who support your career.

That’s exactly why I stopped listening to him. And he hardly sounds repentant. He barely scrapes out a mild and slight regret since that means he loses money. That’s not an apology.
the ironic thing is that his comedy, being clean family based stuff, probably appealed more to conservatives than godless libs so he may have irritated MORE than half of his audience.
