In Today's episode Jason and Greg are getting all nostalgic over vintage panini sticker albums and the joy of swapping stickers as kids.
I still have my back to the future sticker book care Bears I used to have return of the Jedi and just 17 and 86 I loved them thank you for a fantastic episode lads
So many happy memories trying to complete sticker books. Most of mine were football seasons or tournaments and sadly most weren’t completed. Did finish my 95/96 Premier League sticker book going to a swap shop and sending off for 50. The only time I used Postal Orders. I recently purchased a 80s Nightmare on Elm Street sticker book with a few stickers and am currently searching the internet for more stickers (don’t tell Mrs Pearl Jam!)
Great show, I never had sticker books as a youngster but I did get Simple Mechanics when I left school, took 2 years to complete and cost a fortune.
Greg: I'm going to throw this out there Jason.
Also Greg: Precedes to throw all the sticker albums.
This brings back memories of swapping stickers in the playground. Did anyone else call the foil stickers "Shinies", or have I misremembered that? They were the holy grail of stickers, and were usually reserved for the club badges if I remember correctly.
The advert at the beginning what does the voice over lady say @0:11..."Spread the....." WHAT!!! around??
Forgot that I had the Masters of the Universe album, but as soon as I seen it, it brought back the memories (of not completing it)
Fifa have brought out a sticker album for the Euro's this summer, which Greg and Jason could start collecting. You could maybe even start a swap shop for the stickers on your social media or website
Good to see you back guys
I had the Dandy, and the middle page was called stick n lift. Great fun
I loved the Episode as always and I loved the sticker albums.
The Return of the Jedi album gave me serious goosebumps! I had it, and was obsessed with it. I never finished mine, either, and I remember the joy I’d feel getting a sticker I really needed. But getting really annoyed every time I'd buy a packet of stickers and it having doubles and triples of stickers I already had.
I used to love the chewing gum you'd get with them, though.
My favourite sticker collecting experience as a kid was "Space Fings." It was a tube of sweets shaped like Fruit Pastilles, and when you peeled off the entire wrapper, there was a sci-fi sticker attached to the underside - about the same size as the Panini ones. You could also send off for a free poster, which had spaces on it for all the different stickers you could collect. Wish I still had it.
The newsagents near me when I was a lad used to always just open the packets it got in, put them out on a glass sheet that they had in the shop. You could buy them individually, it saved the time for us actually buying lose because the shop owner didn't want to buy loads of boxes. He just bought new ones when he had run out. everyone got the ones they wanted.
You two have brought back so many memories for me today I had completely forgot about the clear reusable one's. I use to work in video world and we use to have the pokemon cards which. Thanks for this video today
Wish mine looked as good as your books
"Football albums became their bread and butter." I see what you did there. :)
Oh, when a pack was 25 cents…it’s more than a dollar now. 💀 and I’m still buying it anyways.
IIRC in 1979, footballl sitckers were 6 for 5p, and there were nearly 600 sitckers in the album
Class, keep these Retro Collectors shows coming lads👍🏻. We had the ROTJ edition, memories memories.
Would love to see a Zx spectrum games show and other 8 bits from the 80s.
I was a never big fan on the football stickers, but I did have the Return of the Jedi album, it brings back memories seeing some of those stickers.
Was always 2/3 stickers for a Shinny! And sometimes the no1 Shinny could command up to 10 stickers.
I remember collecting the 'Dandy and Beano 50th Celebration' album, with the special 'Stick and Lift' Street Party scene in the centre.
My first memories of sticker albums were Panini's Football '88, and the Transformers album.
Oh man, I'd forgotten I even had some of these albums until I saw them on your show! The 4p cost of a sticker was if you ordered a specific sticker directly from the stockist. The packs of sticks was cheaper per sticker I think, but obviously you would get doubles that you had to take to school and swap.
Interesting. These were not a thing when I was growing up in the 80's (in the US) I do remember the garbage pail kids, but those were cards not stickers. Thanks for another great show guys. Keep up the great content. ATB : )
I collected the Merlin Premier League albums for a few years in the mid-90s despite not being particularly into football. But everyone at school had them and I wanted to get in on the playground swaps.
There would allways be one kid in school with a huge pile of the football stickers, then having to say got or need for what seemed an eternity to just get 1 swap if lucky. The He-Man album gave some some flash backs from a time long forgotten,.
There is no better example of Greg being a spoilt kid than him getting the entire Back To The Future sticker album collection and wasting it by plastering them all over his bedroom door...and then presumably moving out to a bigger house.
Snap. I NEVER finished an album, don't ask me what ones I had, the only one that I can recall well is the '89 Batman, and that's only because I would put the ones that I had more than one of onto the big wall posters from Athena, I had above my bed, which some how used to hate the blu-tack and keep falling off, and I never sent off for the packs of stickers either, as I was too afraid of disappointment, if they didn't turn up.
Also the Rainbow company did audio books for movies such as E.T. Superman,Star Wars and loads others
I too am thinking “what an idiot” 20 pence! / Go ssssss busters!
Play nice Greg.
I loved them back in the day I had The Simpsons, Batman, wrestling, Tiny Toons, Saved by the Bell....the list goes on but these days it's like they've lost all imagination and just seem to be the mainly football which sucks!
Where are you dudes please come back soon
Hi did any have the audio tape books?
I have a few from Ladybird books that came with a tape, including transformers and wind in the Willow's.
Some I could record on tape from my local library.
Keep up the great work guys
Yes I had a Transformers book that came with a tape. I also had a Thundercats one aswell. ah good memories.
Why did he throw that back to the future book away? I'll buy it!
Panini are selling a box of stickers for the euros which guarantees album completion for about £115
Have you thought about doing a live stream?
Slap him, Jason lol
Smash hits panini album
Pretty sure Beano is strictly UK.
Anyone know if a comprehensive site on this topic? I also had that Return of the Jedi book. What a weird and interesting cultural thing.
Come back to UA-cam lads ...
Did you know there’s a beano fan club? Hint hint😉
Wait a minute... spoiler alert. Is that Han Solo kissing Princess Leia?
And you both forgot the most important information bout 1970 Worldcup: Brazil was the winner
Bit disappointed with show it felt as so you were rushing it you didn't even say goodbye still loved watching it look forward to next one but no rushing it
Greg was being a knobhead there
I had no interest in football (still don't) but completed the Mexico 86 and another football one but never completed any of the movie ones.
Bye the way I had the Mexico sticker one never got them all no matter how I tried getting them off my mate's was all ways the same stickers you couldn't get No one had them
I'm only missing sticker nr 88 for the Back to the future panini album.. if someone has it and wants to mail it to me, that would be Great! :°
Homies, if you send me an address I will send you some cool cards and stickers!
What’s your chaps’ email and I’ll drop you a line to get your address and send you a bunch of MOTU and ROTJ stickers to fill those half empty albums up with as a thanks for the brilliant entertainment!
