At the time Newman translated this, the phrase The English Bible meant what we now call the King James in America. That makes sense as Newman translated this in 1841, which was four years before his conversion to Catholicism.
This reply is two years late, but I'm writing it for the benefit of future viewers of this video. Loreto Publications is currently selling a Catholic Edition of the Catena Aurea. They mentioned on their website that most versions sold by Catholic publishers (including Baronius Press, I believe) use the King James Version of the bible since their versions are based on the 1841 translation. Loreto's new version is based on the Douay-Rheims bible.
@@JB-ou6flyeah I was curious if this was the case. I just looked it up and it seems that Baronius Press does sell the Douay-Rheims version of the cantena aurea.
I’ve been wanting to have a copy of these books but unfortunately it can’t be delivered here in Qatar. But still, I’m believing that some way or somehow it will come to me in the right time. Thank you for sharing this with us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I'm guessing the 2020 version has all the typos fixed from the the first print Baronius put out (I think it was back in 2013)? Another blogger I follow had complained about too many typos... also: is the extra price worth it or is the PCP version just as good? Great review!
I haven't noticed any typos but I also haven't read it very thoroughly using it more for reference than continual reading. Also I'm sorry, but I'm not aware of the differences between it the PCP and Baronius versions I'd have to look into it more.
Do you know the text size? Small text kills me! This is why I have held off buying a set of the Summa. The text seems so small on the Summa volumes, this Catena Aurea looks good though.
I have no way of telling the font size precisely. The text of the Gospel looks to be around 14 or 12 point with the commentary by the fathers being one level below that. I find it spaced out and large enough to read leisurely. Here is a sample page Baronius Press provides if you want to print it out and see www.baronius.com/media/sample_pages/sample_page__3200.pdf
Thanks for making this review video.
Beautiful binding. I first became aware of the CA as inserts in “The Sunday Sermons of the Great Fathers”.
Thank you for this, the parish council just bought this for our Pastors 4-year Ordination Anniversary,

I was wondering if that's what it was, thank you! I should read/know more history

You're very welcome. There are some websites that have an online edition but I hope you're able to get a physical copy some day

@@StatCruxVolviturOrbis This info is very useful, thank you so much. I am probably going to pick this up in large part due to this information.
the font on the summa isn't bad. it's bigger than it looks, especially with a bookmark.
