    Great video Henry, it shows the struggles we all go through sometimes when we take on a project we are not familiar with.

    A tip so it goes easier for you next time, stuff either a few rags or what I use, paper towels, in the engine to hold the connecting rod against the journal of the crank shaft that way it stays in place so you can start the bolts.

    If the crankshaft came out without removing the governor shaft it will go back in, you needed only to rotate the crankshaft a little.. You were driving me nuts just watching you, you almost drove me to drink.. lol

    I'm goona sound like a broken record here Henry so I apologize for that already. I'm sixty years old and my peeper's ain't as good as they use to be so I use a Shop Workmate with a piece of plywood on it for a work table cuz I need to get closer to the action... saves a lot of bending and good lighting helps too.
    Just an observation here, things are lookin a little dry in there!
    Personally Henry, I use more lubrication on reassembly and also this engine might not be started or used for a while so I would have used engine assembly grease, but that's just me. The cyl wall and top of piston both need a liberal coating of oil after you dried it out with your cleaning spray. Also just before you put the sump cover on take your oil bottle and trickle some oil on the areas of all moving parts, gears, gear teeth every thing. It will make your life easier cuz you may have to rotate the Crank back and forth a little bit to get the cover to drop.
    NOTE:
    (double check your connecting rod cap bolts for torque) some people use loctite & some people don't.
    Sorry for the speech Henry. My Dad was a HD Cummins Diesel mechanic by trade so this was kinda the way he taught me and I want you to have a good engine there.
    and Boba sniffed out than lawn mower for you bro, that's why they are mans best friend. lol
    Good vid bro!

      Don, excellent advice bro..once my camshaft gets here, I'm going to coat the entire engine with oil, make sure it's well lubed prior to sump cover torquing.

    Dw6 is good, I have never replaced a counter balancer, all the ones I ever worked on it was blown out the back of the engine, so I replaced the whole engine, so this was a first for me.

    Can you tell me if this is the largest single cylinder made ??? Also, does this have a cast iron liner in the bore ??? Thanks

    • @MowersNBlowers

      No, I’ve had a 21hp single before which actually is pretty common! They are known for smoking a lot! Also not a cast iron sleeve bore.

    Will the piston out of a 17.5 HP Briggs fit a 18.5..what internal engine parts will interchange if you don't mind me asking

      Yes it’ll fit, if it’s close in HP it’s pretty interchangeable.

    Can this counterweight produce engine knock? What happens if we put the engine together without this balancer?

    • @MowersNBlowers
      @MowersNBlowers 3 роки тому +2

      It knocks because you either put the links in backwards or you have a crankshaft journal that’s out of spec! And no! It’ll blow up without it! If it worked without it, they wouldn’t make it!

    • @accer555
      @accer555 3 роки тому +1

      @@MowersNBlowers it started knocking after four years, about 100 working hours...engine has not been taken apart....yet, and of course, out of warranty

    • @MowersNBlowers
      @MowersNBlowers 3 роки тому +2

      Of course. Not frequent oil changes cause wear in the crankshaft which is why it knocks! Have you tried a thicker oil with oil treatment in it? Maybe synthetic 10w30
