I have a 7'4'' Torq Fun TET and it' s an absolute blast! It is pretty bulky and tends to lacks a bit of mobility in bigger surf but it's super suoer fun.

Hey Man' have you experimented with the seaside & beyond as a twin? apparently it works really well, though I haven't had a chance to ride a seaside & beyond as yet..
To be honest I haven’t! One of my mates was riding a seaside as a twin the other day which has got me thinking about that too! Goes so well as a quad though, but I’ll give it a go sometime soon!
Hi, thanks for the review. Are you referring to the Harley Ingelby Mid6 or the Moe? I can only find footage of Kevin Schultz on a Mid6. The Mid6 looks to have lot of rocker and very performance oriented, I’m look at the Moe as I need a bit more volume and width due to age and ability but still want to surf larger waves (up to 1&1/2 head high) and manage late takeoffs in steeper waves. Hey Shane - yeah that’s a mistake on my part I didn’t clock until uploading, I was referring to the Mid6 with Kevin! That being said though, the Moe is another solid option and will certainly fit the bill for what you’re looking for. I’d also consider the Seaside and Beyond too, so much fun! 🤙
Have you had and time on Chilli boards? I’d like you to review the mid weight and compare it to the Seaside and beyond

Hello I’ve been loving your videos I am a short 160 cm and at the start of beginning to intermediate surf depending on my fitness I am interested in knowing what is the best funboard size for my height and petite frame because paddling is not my strength when my fitness is inconsistent above all I just want to catch Catch waves as much as possible and sometimes the waves that I Struggle the most with catching are the ones that peak very quickly so I need to pop up very quickly and paddle in the right position. Do you have a board configuration that you would recommend? Right now I have a 7 foot epoxy board that I love but I am still struggling with catching these waves when I’m not in tiptop shape. Thank you so much
Hey Crystal, stoked to hear you're on the hunt for a new board! So, unfortunately there isn't a magic answer to this one, but the best advice I can give you for your progression is getting that paddle power going - which means spending as much time in the ocean as possible, or swim training as well. It's one of the toughest learning curves in surfing, but will help you out no matter what board you go with.
A solid mini mal (in the 7-7'6 range) or a more performance based mid length (in the 6'9 - 7'2 range) sounds like they'll handle what you're looking to surf and something like the Seaside & Beyond will give you plenty of paddle power and stability under the front foot. I hope that helps!
Hi thank you for this vid. I’m really digging CI mid and toying between getting a 7.0 or 6.10. Wdyt? I’m 178cm (5ft10) and 75kg. I’ve been surfing for 2 years and wouldn’t consider myself too advance but I was surfing a 6.8 hybrid fish 45L before and can catch waves and go down the line. Lemme know what you think

Hey there! This video is awesome! I used to surf a lot when I lived in New Zealand too! Now, after almost 4 years, I'm finally moving near the ocean again, and I can't wait to pick up my surfboard and hit the waves once more! Since I've been out of the game for a while, I'm not quite sure what board to go for. I'm 185cm tall and weigh 72kg, so I need a board that suits my body type and skill level (Intermediate/adv Intermediate when I stopped). What I really want is a fun board that's easy to pop up on so I can quickly get back into the rhythm and progress my surfing skills.
If any experienced surfers out there have any suggestions or recommendations, I'd be super grateful! Can't wait to get back to the ocean and ride those waves again! 🌊🏄♂ I came aswell across the Gerry Lopez Midway does anybody has any experience with this board ?
Great to hear you're getting back in the water, and a midlength is a perfect way to ease that transition and get your paddle power back up too! I've actually just released another mid length video too with 8 extra options to check out:

Personally I think the Ova or Moe would be a solid choice to get you back in the water, or the Chili Mid Strength if you want a little more performance under your feet from the word go as well.

Don't forget the FW greedy beaver - great mid length and turns like a shortboard on a 2+1 fin set up. I owned a 6'6 in timbertek and loved it - great wave catching, turns like a shortboard and is just SOOOO mch fund to surf BUT i founf the Timbertek too stiff and heavy compared to my helium boards. FW JUST released the GB in Helium and i have ordered one which is due friday - GB IS A REALLY good board !
It was tough narrowing it down to a list of 10 - maybe I’ll have to do a follow up! I agree the Greedy Beaver is heaps of fun - let me know how it goes in Helium!

@@davidn.2805driving is dangerous, walking is dangerous...what about sleeping? You could also go into cardiac arrest while on the toilet cause literally EVERYTHING has risk involved from something out of your control. Keep the bubble wrap tightly secured if you must

Thanks, im looking for a good versatile allrounder that will handle some good surf too! I have a 6'8 single fin that i love , but lacks when the surf picks up, its 3 thick, and 22 wide, so looking for some refinement, and hold.
Im 5'7, 70kg, do you rekon the 6'10 be a good all round option?
hey Josh! I haven't surfed the Lost myself, but a mate of mine highly recommends it - and from the outline and fin setup it's certainly going to be a solid option for some bigger stuff as well. 6'10 sounds like a good fit too. Also if you're Aussie based I'd highly recommend the Cape Collective Broken Arrow as well - it's my go to for the bigger days!

Nice video ... I'm coming off my 9ft foamie after 6 months of surfing 2/3 times a week I can go left and right and turn the board slowly I'm looking to size down to a hard board I'm 85kg 5,11.... What length mid length board can you recommend
stoked to hear you're progressing and looking for your first hard board! Based on your height and weight I'd be aiming for something between 7'2 and 8'0 depending on where you feel you are skill wise. shorter = more manoeuvrable, longer = more paddle power. If you're Aussie based the Midway would be my pick, but overall I'd say a thruster setup is going to be the easiest transition for you

For this video Pocket 2 for talking pieces in water hand held is a combo of Hero 9 and Sony A6400 :)

Hi! I see the board you are riding in the video has a stomp pad. I never thought of putting one on my 7’2” - do you recommend one? I thought those were only used on shortboards
Totally personal preference to be honest Sheila - some people use them as a guide to make sure their back foot is over the fins, or as a bit of extra protection for the tail (which always takes a lot of abuse from your back foot).
I’ve got mid length with and without tailpads - just depends on how you like to surf it and if you want to put one on, no right or wrong with that one 😊

Does a beginner need to master basic turns on a longboard (or 7'8 to 8') before taking a midlength, when small waves season is over and a lower volume 7' would be less cumbersome in 3' and more swells ?
I would say you'll actually find it much easier to handle a mid length over a longer board or minimal and turning will be much easier, so as long as you can cacth waves and stand up consistently you'll love a mid length. In terms of bigger swells, its going to really depend on the style of mid length you go for as well.
I'm thinking getting a 6'6 as midlength, im 152cm and 45kgs., im around low intermediate level.. just can't find a 6'6 midlength
Hey Christine! So generally mid lengths as a category start around the 6'10-7'0 mark through to 8'0. Given your heigh and weight you can certainly go to the lower end of that scale and to get the benefits of the paddle power a 6'10 or 7'0 would be a solid fit., which most of the boards in the guide start around
I'm mid 50's. 85kg's. I need something for those days when no good for the Dominator II (ie really big days and really small days). I want something that performs a little like the Dominator II, but obviously with more foam for upping the wave count. Which one would you recommend?
I’d go with the seaside and beyond, probably in 7’0 - so much fun and handles some solid size 🤙
I'm 50 and 84kg and have the Dominator 2 in a 5'11 and love it. I tried a seaside and beyond in 7'0 and kept catching the nose on turns. It worked okay when I moved way back on the board, but too much moving around for a short boarder in my opinion. I sold it and have purchased the Chilli Mid Strength in 6'8. It looks like a pretty high performance mid length, but haven't surfed it yet. Interestingly the 6'8 is 40.9L and the 6'10 is 44L (quite a jump) so depending on what sort of volume you are after, that is also worth a look. I'll drop in some feedback after I've had a few surfs.
@@skeres01 Nice one mate. Very keen to hear how you go. Will look at the Chilli and read up. I was almost convinced on buying the 6"8' seaside and beyond but now a little unsure.
@@skeres01 thanks for the input - always good to hear how other people are getting on with other boards. I surf my SSAB at 6'8 and love it, but do agree, you can sometimes need to move around a bit - but I feel this is something all longer board options require
@@shaunjej1855 I think the 6'8 would be an easier transition than the 7'0 Seaside and beyond. I have also seen heaps of positive feedback on the board so it may have just been my experience. BTW just received the Chilli today but damaged so going to be awhile before I get to try it out 😞
I've looked at a few of this guys reviews and hmmmm. HS Mid length glider 2+1? Look at the fin box. Looks like 1 + side bites. The HS site also says 2+1. I think some of this guy's reviews are just taken from the websites. One of his twinny reviews was similar. Also not sure if I have ever seen him surf in the clips. Could be wrong.
What do you mean by “hmmm” - it’s not very constructive criticism! I would describe single fin slot with sidebites as 2+1 (much easier to say!) otherwise it would be a twinny with trailer, and clearly the fin boxes take a single fin, it’s one of the reasons I included the pics, so people could see it themselves. A few clips of me surfing in some of the reviews and throughout the channel, but I still don’t get peoples obsession with needing that - unless you’re surfing the same waves, have the same level or style watching someone else surf the board shouldn’t help you choose anything, the characteristics and board breakdown are much more valuable in helping you make your own decision based on your own needs. Would you buy a board simply because you saw Slater ripping on it?!
What size would you recommend for 5’5 at 67 kg?
It will also come down to the style of board, surf skill level and also the waves you’re riding, but based on your height and weight you can get away with the shorter side of things so maybe a 6’10-7’0 would be a good starting point for length
I’ve got a 6,4 cape collective but thinking of swapping it out for a Sunday 6,8-7. Thoughts?

@@StokedForTravel I’ve got a custom 5,9fish which I love, was thinking of getting a log but changed my mind to get a middie before a log. The CC is good but was my first board it’s pretty decent was just looking to get a proper middie. I’m 6.1” 75kg
@@sassall4284 nice! So based on that info I'd either go for a 7'2 Midway (by CC) or a 7'0 or 7'3 Sunday. Personally length wise the longer Sunday was my personal preference over the smaller ones. Midway is heaps of fun too, but thruster setup v single or twin fin so that's a big decide too. I would say the Midway is slightly more forgiving, so also depends where your skill levels sits too

Best advice I can give you on this one is stand with both feet together, then take a few steps forward. The foot you put first should in theory be your front foot. However there is no right or wrong option so go with whichever feels most natural to you!
Another way I saw recommended was to (either by imagination or in reality) run and skid with socks on across a tiled floor - same thing we used to do as kids. The foot you naturally go with in the front will be your front foot in surfing.
Any opinions on quad vs thruster on mid lengths in particular?
Really depends on the style of board and what you want to use it for. Quad offers more speed and drive, but harder to turn top to bottom, where are thruster turns easier but you have to work a bit more on speed generation 🤙
Personally I’m loving the seaside and beyond as a quad mid length
i had a couple mids over the years that i hated as a thruster but came alive as a quad, (frees up the foot placement) don't forget the twin plus one setup which is currently my favorite.
