- Problems with engine brake or cruise control not always working. Driver says sometimes the engine brakes and cruise control will not respond, try replacing the clutch switch.
Paid $200 for a mechanic to come across the street, ask me for a paper clip. He bypassed it to get me crunk and running. ( if you need to do that for an emergency, straighten the paper clip, bend to a U shape, pull the inside connectors apart, insert one end of clip in each of the outermost female receptors.) Won’t need to depress clutch, and it will crank and run.
I had all of the issues, jake, and cruise working intermediately, and periodic issues with cranking, until it just wouldn’t crank a couple weeks ago.
This video saved me from coughing up more money to a mechanic to change it out.
Thank you very much.
I hope my comment will help those in a pickle like I was, needing an emergency fix to get running.
Thank you very much for the emergency fix.
Just like magic, replaced clutch switch and wa laaa. It fixed all of my problems. Jake and cruise is now working and dont need to hit the key switch 10 times before it hits. THANK YOU SO MUCH 👍👍
Please invest in a head mounted go pro so u can use both hands. You're the best UA-cam truck mechanic in clearly relating the work to drivers like me
I paid $60 some.change for the part and changed it .that 4 bolt under hood section helped a alot ..thank you now cruise and jack works just fine ...
Glad to hear.
Thanks for the help! i had a 2007 Cascadia day cab that needed a parked regen but diagnostic link didn't see the clutch being cycled so i went to parameters and found that clutch position wasn't changing so i replaced the switch and now its all good.
Great video! I used this technic took 45 mins to change, and that’s honestly because I took my time
Hell I’ve been doing it the hard way. I just used a 1/4 inch swivel and got it under the dash. Hell with that. I can do like you did and not be a contortionist. Probably in the same amount of time. Best tip so far. Thanks
hddm3 glad the video was helpful
Tanks Carlos very on time I discovered the video I need to change this switch thank you very much blessed
Thank you. Keepn it nice and simple.
A lot of help. Keep them coming Subscribed !!
I just found your channel and truly appreciate it you’re one of the mechanics I’ll definitely recommend thanks again
Thanks for the video... I just replace my today 👍👍 ... safe me some money 💴👍
willy H you are welcome
I’m a fat ass trucker this is the video I needed lol I try the other Way but it’s tight lol 😂 thanks 1 million
Awesome clip brotha thank you!
Thanks for posting the video
I wish I had seen this a little sooner. I replaced the switch without pulling it out the front, and it was not fun at all.
Very good thanks for the video
Do you know how to replace a cigarrete lighter fuse on a freightliner m2 106 2003? Where the fuse box is located?
@erlander, I don’t believe there is enough room while the clutch pedal is installed in the truck to remove. I’ve always just removed the complete assembly and then just the switch. I don’t believe you will be saving that much time if you do it from the inside.
Carlos Diesel Electric . Thanks for videos, I have 2015 dd15 Cascadia, have only automatic Fans star approximately at 220 temperatures, I woul like to set Manual fan , tha is possible. Thanks
Very nicely done thank you. My freightliner cascadia has been giving me issues with not starting once I shut it off. hopefully that does the job.
Check wires on starter....any bare wires wil short out stater....not a mechanic but hav been in and out of shops....$$$ road service truks hit hard....tryn to learn as much as i can...these videos are great start...bless u all😇
Thank you for helping us!!
Nice time saving tip thanks mate
Great video! You just gained a subscriber
Lua Shelton thank you.
Great vid thanks for the info
Hi bro, have you ever replaced a clutch switch and when finished the cruise works perfectly bit the engine brake doesn't, it doesn't even light. Do you think that the switch could be defective because the engine brake did work before the replacement.
Very helpful video
Thank you
My freightliner Argosy Cummins power is cutting off engine whenever I'm reducing gears down because the jake brake is coming in lately after atleast 5 seconds,we replaced the clutch switch but it's still giving same problems
Brother yo tengo un problema, mi cascadia 2012 me da fallo cuando acelero con el pedal, ya le puse pedal nuevo y lo q hice para llegar fue acelerar con el ccontrol, sabria usted decirme q puede pasar? Gracias
I just replaced the whole Master cylinder a month ago, just now, d cruise n Jake won't work, please advise
SURMONPEY NELSON you need to connect your software and see if the switches are responding. Do you have access to the software?
@@CarlosDieselElectric thank you, I don't have d software, I unplugged and plugged it back then the cruise n Jake start to work again
SURMONPEY NELSON well there you go. Sometimes the plug can wiggle and cause problems. Glad you found the problem.
@@CarlosDieselElectric I have saved reasonable amount of money and wait time by watching ur videos and I want to say thank you for the good job...🙏🙏🙏
My jake and cruise control seem to be intermittent working and not working at the same time. Also when I try to start the truck with clutch pushed down sometimes I have to hit the key up to 10 times before it will start. Also I can go down the road for hours with the Jake and cruise working great. The second I use the clutch when I exit the hwy , I loose my Jake and clutch. I think it's the switch that you showed. Am I correct? Thank you
John Davidson that sounds like you are on the right track. I would definitely start there. The switch is inexpensive and definitely something you can do yourself.
Sometimes the switch will do that, I have had trucks in my shop that respond just fine. Then the driver leaves and then start to act up.
Let me know if the issue is resolved once you replace it.
@@CarlosDieselElectric thank you,
I have a 2014 freightliner m2 106, and my cruise not working ,the fast idle works when it wants.and every now and then I have to press on the clutch a few times before it starts. Can it be this switch on my m2 106 aswell ? Thanks
It can certainly be the issue. Connect using the Insite software and see if the switch is responsive.
The issue that I am having is my Cruise control will not work while driving. It will work on idle. Jakes work fine. I have replaced the cruise air switch and speed sensor. Still not working. I can say that prior to the cruise air switch change, it didnt work on idle. Brakes lights work fine and it kills jakes when engaged. Not sure where to go from here. Thanks for any help I can get.
Poppi3579 need to have someone with the software connect and check the switches and how they are engaging. Also check the parameters. If these are ok, then possible the problem could be in the clock spring. But first start with having someone check the response using the software.
Carlos Diesel Electric thx
Unfortunately for me someone has been in there before and chewed up bolt slots and I can't get my t30 to bite
Remove the entire pedal assembly but you may have to remove the hydraulic line in order to do so. Then you might have to bleed the system after.
You did the hard way. But it works
So what is the easy way?
What is the size of tool need to open clutch fluid housing and the microswitch ,I have issue in cranking and need to follow your steps for replacement.
You will need a torx, I think it will be a T25 or T30 and then an metric allen socket. Let me look up the sizes and will update you tomorrow.
@@CarlosDieselElectric thx.
Great video
Very helpful. What are bad Symptoms?
Typically the engine brake might not work, cruise control will not engage and possibly have issues with the starter switch not working. If you have some of those issues then replacing the clutch switch is the fastest solution before you start digging deep.
Hope this helps
Why is it necessary to literally stand on the clutch pedal with all 280lbs of my body weight to make the truck start? This is not a normal condition. It was normal when it went in for service and this how I get it back.
It could be the switch is not making proper contact with the pedal assembly, bad pedal assembly or the switch is no good.
I have a 2006 freightliner century automatic transmission where can I find that clutch switch cause my cruise and Jake brake is not working
Check your pressure switches. They are located under the the radio on the air manifold. You have to remove the panel to gain access.
@@CarlosDieselElectric thank you, I really enjoy watching your videos.
Having an issue starting the truck. I have to move the clutch around to get it to start. Is this the problem or might it be something else. Thanks.
Norvin Guevara what do you mean by move the clutch around? If you mean stepping on the clutch pedal a few times then yes. This sounds like the problem, luckily the switch is less than $100. Usually the contacts wear out and this is why you probably have to mess with the clutch pedal a few times.
Ok Thank you.
Thanks!
My idle work but my cruise control no works Question is it’s the switch?
Try with the switch or if you have access. Use the Detroit software and see if the switches are working
Will this work in a cascadia dd15 2010? Thanks!
Edgar Quintero yes. This will work for 2010 Cascadia’s.
@@CarlosDieselElectric
Thank you so much for responding. You re videos are very helpful and useful!
I have to stab the clutch a few times to get it started. Do you think this will help
Keri Watts it would be a great place to start. Cost of the switch is reasonably priced, I would start there
Thanks alot I will change i just bought a 2011 freightliner with 644000 miles that was that last of the no def engine. Drove from Ohio to st louis with no issues
is this the same for a automatic 2016 freightliner Cascadia
It should be the same for all Cascadia.
Seemed like a cable wire was hangn down which might cause issue down the road.....
Is this the same process for 2019 cascadia?
Great question. I have not come across a 2019 with issue. Most are automatics, but if you have a manual transmission, then it should not be that different.
@@CarlosDieselElectric I do have a manual...thanks so much
Amigo ese sensor le sirve a un Cascadia 2011? No importa el año gracias
Si, es igual
@@CarlosDieselElectric gracias 🙏
how I can delet that and start the truck ?
The clutch switch works with the engine brake, cruise control and is also a safety. It can be bypassed. Just look at the plug. You may have to find which wires to jump
I have a truck with a very intermittent no start. I am thinking it is the clutch switch. Has anyone else had this issue. 2012 Cascadia - Thanks for any insight is greatly appreciated
I would definitely start with the clutch switch, easy to replace and fairly inexpensive.
Thanks so much*****
You are welcome
What year is the truck?
taurus robinson I believe it was a 2015. Not much changes on the Cascadia. What year is your truck?
2013
taurus robinson the process is the same on a 2013 as it is with a 2015. It is actually the same process from 2009-2015.
Thanks
👍🏽
joseph chacon glad you liked it. I’ll keep trying to put some good and useful content.
ok.
Great video
Guy Behind the Guy thank you.
I have to turn my key few times before it starts all I can hear is clicking noise you think it might be this this switch or it’s my starter please advice
Jeet Sarai start with the clutch switch first. A lot cheaper then the starter.
Carlos Diesel Electric Thanks Carlos
Thank you.
ABBAS RADMARD-MOGHANI you are welcome
