Looks beautiful! I've gotten used to the default design myself, but I do wish at least the face buttons had the symbols colored. It just doesn't seem right even with the radical change from previous generations to have them monochromatic like that.
I agree. People got used to that since 1994. Around there at least. Me? From like 2013 because that's when i got my PS2 Slim. It can't be a Coincidence that i got a PS2, PS3 and PS4 Slim. I gotta get the Saga in with the PS5 Slim. Why am i Thinking of a PS5 Pro Slim? It's a PS5 Pro but a Slim version. Think of the PS4 Pro but make it a lot smaller and quieter. People would probably buy that. Plus it could be 2 TB too.
I would like to see the colored buttons return also.

I would recommend using a primer before adding color. When I customize controllers I usually do sanding, washing, priming, and then color. Then I add a clear coat.
But, even with all the preparation; will it last? Or will it fade? Will any minor scratches going to show anyway? And with the oils of the hands, how will it hold?
@@GnarledSage The paint job actually lasts quite long! I do use an automotive lacquer so it's very durable. I do recommend handling with clean hands. You do have to be careful with it as it can get damaged. Just like a car, even with very durable paint, it can be damaged with improper use or handling.

Yea I’m sure he coulda used something like acetone to remove the clear coat rather than sanding the damn controller
I wouldn’t do it just for that reason.
I've found that even after sanding, priming, color and clear, you can still see and feel the texture. That was my concern when I first started customizing the Dualsense but after trying it out it still shows.
Nobody wants to dismantle their controller ..but i likes this video a lot

I love how it looks, but i would love it more if you paint the logo button like the logo of the ps1-ps2 it would look sick
Anyone wanting to do this, use GunKote, it sprays on extremely thin so it won’t gunk anything up, and as it implies lol- if you’ve ever used a gun when you shoot after a while it gets extremely hot, GunKote is good for those temperatures. You need an airbrush though to apply it. So I’d say only do it if you plan to do it to more then one thing, or use it multiple times. Btw another gun coating tip that will work for doing this is use alcohol to clean them, then wash with dawn dish soap, use gloves the whole time and don’t touch with your bare hands, sand it a little, then wash it one more time, then spray a light patchy base coat, then, two-3 color coats. Finish up with some clear coat, and boom an impeccable paint job. method works with spray paint too.
hello friend, did you use any type of sandpaper before painting? or just wiped with a cleaning cloth? and which cloth / sandpaper did you use? have the specifications, which ink gun did you use?

Yes the D-pad for DualSense and Dualshock 4 are the same size.

I like how clearly the buttons sticks out more especially the circle and you don't mention that at all in the end. I'd rather have custom buttons made for the ps5 controller. Good job on the paint though.
Is there also a way to color PlayStation logo on the PS5 controller or nope? Also question how did you get the button shapes the original colors?

I spray painted one of my controllers and if you do light coats, the texture is not affected
No the paint is not a leveling compound. Same peaks and valleys.

I’ve been really tempted to take apart my controller and drill in the middle of the dpad with a small bit then saw each d-button in order to separate them. I might try with my old broken DualShock first use that dpad to make sure it works

Why not dye the plastic instead? I did it to some of my dirt bike plastics and it won’t show with light scratches

The Dpad and face buttons were from a broken PS4 controller, but you can find them on Ebay for cheap.
When I get a ps5 I’m hopefully gonna do this but I’m not gonna sand it…I still want the symbols on it

How long did it take for the shell to not be sticky or completely dry?
After painting I left it for a few days to fully dry. It's still as good now as when I made this video.

To everyone complaining about the difficulty of taking apart the controller and saying that they will just wait until an official one comes out why are you here and why did you click on the video of how to make a PS5 controller black in the first place?
This is pretty easy, get yourself some primer and sealant for a much more cleaner durable finish.
Imagine getting a PS5 (a very powerful piece of equipment) and the only thing that’s being talked about is coloring face plates and the controller.
