Tyson is one of the most fascinating Survivor players to me. He's the only winner other than Boston Rob to take more than two tries to get a win under his belt, and he never really looked like a threat to win his first two tries like Rob did in his earlier attempts. I think it really does come down to not having the motivation to honestly throw his all into winning the first two times. Then Rachel goes specifically to weaken him and the kid gloves finally come off.
Yeah. His first 2 times it definitely looks like Tyson was playing to have fun and play mind games more than win the whole game. His athleticism made him a dangerous challenge threat though so if when he loses a challenge, blindsiding him wasn't too challenging.
Agrred in almost everything except that Rob wasn't really a threat to win in Marquesas since he was the first jury member and i doubt anyone from rotu would vote for him, in all-stars had he managed big tom's boot better i think he would have won the season
I feel like Rob was a front runner in All Stars pretty much the entire time. Pre merge at least, he was a heavy favorite. It wasn’t until he started trailblazing in the post merge that it started to look shaky for him. But his first outing for sure…he had moments of brilliance but wasn’t really in any kind of power position.
He definitely played a lot better, though he still made some significant mistakes. Specifically, choosing to draw a rock rather than playing an idol to protect his alliance is among the dumbest moves made by a winner.
@@bigbuffguy9589 It's not one of the dumbest moves because he survived it. It would have been horrible if he would have drawn the 1 black rock. Since it worked out for him it is ballsy and risky, but you have to take risks and he did the math in his head at the time.
he said recently on his new podcast on the ringer that when he first went on he knew there were two ways to win, 1 win the game or 2 go so hard that you get invited back. I think maybe once he realized he wasn't gonna win Tocantins he just went as hard as possible.
@@andrewberkovitz5552 this makes so much sense because he did show spurts of genuinely caring about the win at certain times but when he finally got the boot he didn’t seem like it bothered him too much 💀
@@andrewberkovitz5552 So dang smart! If you can't win the money then win the popularity contest with the fans. Be so memorable that people want you to play again.
If Sierra wasn't completely alone.. I think it would've come off less mean. She was like 19-20 years old, alone, literally no one on her side, and he was relentless. He's a lot funnier when he's mean to people who can take it.
I think that Tocantins is quite possibly the best casted season. Coach, Tyson, JT, Steven, and Taj are all near perfect casting and are some of the best characters we've seen in the show
This is, by far, my favorite season and you picked a great character to start this series with! The entire cast is awesome, but I knew Tyson was a lock. He's so unique, much like the location this season. I'm expecting an 8 hour manifesto on Coach. :P
He's up there as an all time favourite for me, I even had him winning 40 lol, He's so entertaining, and i think he really needed that experience in heroes vs villains to be the player he became.
Tyson is one of my all time favourite players. An awesome player on every level and one of the funniest to ever be on the show. Was so stoked to see him go the distance in BvW.
Tyson's line in that slingshot challenge was one of my favorites in that season... "I'll come over and do it if you want" and her conversation with Erinn in the individual immunity challenge never fails to crack me up no matter how many times I've heard it...
My first watch through of Tocantins, I was floored by just how quickly he could flip from making me laugh to making me physically uncomfortable with how mean he could be. Now I suppose I laugh more at him because I see it coming, but I was really satisfied seeing him go that first time. I think he gets better in his subsequent seasons, a little less outright belittling and a little more teasing in nature.
I watched several of your videos over the weekend. I can't believe how good the production values are! Your narration sounds professional, terrifically blended with the video footage. Terrific work!
I mean I would hope the season someone won is their best, Boston Rob may be the only winner who can say the opposite as his played against followers in RI.
@@robtheservantof6257 one is definitely the shorter hair. The other is he seemed so goofy and more or less a character than a player the first go around. He was a sidekick in the first two times he was out but then the kingpin when he won and a much more mature adult on WaW.
BvW, Tocantins, WAW, HvV. Mainly because of screen time. His winning game was without a doubt the best season of him since he was still mean and blunt but so aware of every situation that he ended up winning.
I'm sorry but I love Tyson being called the assistant coach and I wish this episode was named after that even if it doesn't sum up his game the best. Also I forgot how mean Tyson was this season. I'll admit some of these are funny but damn just straight up calling her an idiot to her face, for no reason it's just his abrasive attitude.
Tyson is a true character! What is interesting about him is that he can be an arrogant jerk and he is still likable at the end of the day. Not always the best strategist, but he has a good sense of humor. He is also good at figuring out who is a threat like Brandon. Not very smart at how he treats outcasts like Seirra.
The tocantins cast is so much better than the current cast they have. So much comedy and uniqueness to the players compared to the game bots now that over strategize everything.
I think it’s an interesting thing to look at Tyson’s overall story in comparison to JT’s overall story. While they both came back in HvV, Tyson kinda got screwed whereas JT kinda screwed himself. Tyson ends up playing a really good winning game in Blood vs Water, whereas JT kinda plays a meh game in Game Changers. Come Winners at War, Tyson was on the season and JT isn’t, because JT is done with Survivor, I don’t think Tyson will be.
It's hard to say for certain if someone like Tyson could be a returning player for 2 more seasons in today's Survivor. (Don't count WAW because players for that season HAD to be a winner so that is a very specific condition and casting would be a small pool) His mean and blunt comments would really rub people the wrong way to the point I think more than 1 person would see him as a parasite to tribe morale. Tyson was brilliant though by offsetting most of those things by being silly, bu then again strategy has really picked up since Tocantins. I think this Tyson wasn't thinking about how winning multiple individual immunities would change his threat level to others and if he was aware of that along with not being increasingly brutal towards Sierra then I think he would of gotten to final 6, maybe 5.
I liked him in this early season but he left a bad taste for me because of how horrible he was to Sierra but I absolutely adored him in Blood vs Water.
I honestly think Tyson didn't care about winning the first time. Idk I could definitely be wrong lol I'm just assuming this like I've never heard him say that.. but I think his main goal wasn't to win, the main goal was to be remembered. I think he figured that as long as he was memorable, he'd be able to play again and again and he could win later (which, you know, works out nicely for him lmao) and since survivor pays every contestant, he probably just figured that if all else fails.. at least he gets a little money and a free vacation 🤷♀️
Would Tyson have won sitting next to Stephen or Taj? The dynamics would have been wack for that to have happened but was thinking about what would happen if he made it to the end sitting next to a Jalapao member
There's no survivor that i love to hate more than tyson. But I have to admit, it wasn't as difficult to go back and watch him as i thought it would be. Good tv. Still the biggest douche in survivor.
Hated Tyson in this season!! Arrogant wanker!! But his second season, my opinion mellowed, and his third season, I loved him!! Although I hated him originally, I loved watching him grow and mature through the years. Still don't like him when I watch his original season, but knowing his subsequent growth, I can at least get past hating him!! Would love to see him play again one day!!
Personally not a fan. I never understood why he bullied Sierra so much and why the fans brush it aside but then they don't forgive other players for much less.
Could we talk about Tyson's iconic shot at the intro where he turns into a eagle catching its pray out of the river? One of the best intro shots.
Man, I miss when Survivor US had intros. They should at the very least do them on the Premiere and Finale.
SpanishFly120, show is less profitable than the old days. Cost cutting.
I'm not a huge Tyson fan, but his confessional about how he can't imagine Sierra's boyfriend is that cool is an all-timer.
