Oilers had the 4th best offense, the Canucks only 2 spots behind at 6th. Canucks were also 6th in least goals allowed while the Oilers were 10th. The narrative that the Oilers are already Stanley Cup champions and that the Canucks were just some farm team that they would easily roll over is wrong. Canucks didn't get 50 wins this season because of flukes and lucky bounces, Tocchet drilled them hard on their defensive game so even if they get out shot they don't get out scored. Let the goalie see the first shot then have the big guys clear the rebound, it's what they've been doing all year no matter who is in net. Rangers are doing the same thing right now to the Hurricanes. Carolina has been badly outshooting the Rangers every game but NY is still up 3-1.

End of the game, not a hockey play. if the department of player safety does not suspend Zack Hyman, they have failed at doing their job and applying supplemental discipline, no other decision is acceptable.

Soucy was aiming for the collarbone. There was no intent to cross check him in the face. Had Soucy planned that, he would have cross checked McD in the helmet or missed alltogether.

I like how the editing conveniently leaves out McDavid’s slash, and how Button glosses over the fact the face shot was clearly accidental. Intent matters! It’s obvious from the clip that Soucy throws a chest-level crosscheck towards McDavid in retaliation for the slash, but with Zadorov pushing him forward at that exact moment it causes the motion to connect with his face/neck instead. It’s unfortunate, but if you eff around after the whistle you’re gonna find out, like McDavid did. Move on.

Oh so Soucey did start it. Fighting will get you a five minute penalty. Slashing will get you a two minute penalty. Cross checking a guy in the face will get you suspended every time.

Upon reviewing the replays of the incident, it is not obvious, as Craig Button suggests, that Soucy was aiming straight for McDavid's head. The reason being that McD's head was directed downwards as a result of Zadorov's cross-check to his back. We can therefore assume that Soucy was perhaps aiming for McD's upper chest, not his neck / face per se.
Craig must be so old that he can't see that the reason the hit was high was because Zadorov pushed from the back. OH YEAH, McDavid started this with the stick on Soucy.

Soucy already got a penalty for cross-checking McDavid in Game Three. As well, NHL reviewed it and determined to suspend Soucy one game further. However, in Game 2 McDavid did not get a penalty for highsticking Quinn Hughes cutting his face as a result. To make it worse, the ref forced Hughes out of the ice. So, NHL allowed McDavid to highstick Hughes and got away with it but Soucy got a penalty AND one game suspension for cross-checking McDavid! What double standard !

Take a look back on the McDavid high stick to Hughes face... I'm not saying this shouldn't be a suspension but it needs to be consistent if they choose to do so. McDavid looks right at Hughes then looks away to make himself look less guilty and it's pretty obvious it was an intentional slash to the face on Hughes.

Is it suspendable yes but I would not expect it to happen. Sense they don't care about player safety otherwise Bennett would not have been in game 4 of that series. It would likely be in the regular season but I highly doubt now.

Sucy's cross-check wasn't high, but unfortunately, McD's instinct to draw a penalty took over.
Even though the game had concluded, he instinctively dove when he felt a slight push from behind, resulting in a blow to the jaw.
And the slash to Soucy in the ankle goes unaddressed?! Zadorov saw the slash and gave him a shove for it. At the same time Soucy was reacting himself to the slash by giving McDavid a shot back. It wasn’t planned by Soucy and Zadorov, and it wasn’t intentional to the head by Soucy. McDavid needs to know if he slashes our guys he’s gonna get something back. We’re not afraid.
If the nhl doesn’t suspend that player,game 4 will be very ugly.

Speaking as a Canucks fan here. Although I hope they win the series, I do have to say that kind of violence against one of the NHL's best players is wrong. McDavid is not completely innocent, but Zadorov and Soucy took things too far. Hope McDavid is okay.
Craig didn't even watch what happened. McDavid gave Soucy a two-hand slash to the leg FIRST, to start this whole sequence, which was after the game had ended. So Soucy responded and was intending to give McD a cross-check to the chest. UNFORTUNATELY, Zadorov hit Mcd in the back just as Soucy was starting his cross-check and McD's upper body dropped and put his face in direct line with Soucy's cross-check. So CLEARLY, Soucy was not trying to contact the face, he was just defending himself from McD's slash. The fact that McD and Soucy were not injured on the play indicates the level of force was not significant by either player. Why wasn't there a review of McDavid's slash, since he was the instigator? Is he Trump-like and immune to NHL justice? It seems so, since he high-sticked Hughes in the face and drew blood and got no penalty (should have been 4 minutes) and it should have resulted in a disciplinary review. Craig Button can say whatever he wants, but he should look at all of the video before he starts ranting and raving. NHL justice should apply equally to stars like McDavid as well as to the rank and file players.
What about Hoglander getting speared in the balls by Ryan. Only matters when it's McDavid?

This was a deliberate attempt to injure. Any time you cross-check an opponent in the face, you could break his nose, his cheek, his jaw, or worse yet bust his throat. This should be ten games suspension. It was not even issued a match penalty. Boy, I miss Semenko, McClelland, and McSorly.
