I used to see Primus' Band Members at King Crimson Concerts, at Berkeley's Greek Theater, both in 83' and 84'. They were and still are King Crimson Fans. - Les Claypool has covered a few King Crimson Songs over the Years.
They have a lot of trippy stuff. Early 70's rocked and then started back up with a sound that everyone copied. Giant catalog of giant influence from '69 till now
Another band of his of very worthy note is Liquid Tension Experiment. They make serious progressive instrumental rock. John Petrucci on guitar, Mike Portnoy on drums, Jordan Rudess on keys and Tony on bass and Chapman Stick. LTE is just bonkers.
Les Claypool of Primus borrowed heavily from the bass on this song for "Jerry Was A Racecar Driver" - Les is a big Crimson fan, and "Jerry ... " was musically a bit of a tribute to the band. Adrian Belew (the vocalist / guitarist in this video) has played onstage with Primus. So - yep. Primus has a definite King Crimson inspiration 🙂
I'm sure Primus and many other musicians including myself were influenced by this band and also the individuals in the band. All of them have many other musical things they've done
On vocals and guitar is Adrian Belew who also played with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, The Bears, and does his own solo work.

He released a good live cover of Thela Hun Ginjeet on spotify
Glad you enjoyed that! They are using Roland guitar synthesisers and a Chapman stick for the bass line.
I love me some King Crimson
Primus were influenced by King Crimson. The first time I heard "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver", it reminded me of "Elephant Talk".
Jerry was a Racecar Driver absolutely lifted the funk off of this song, which was from 1980.

If the bass sounds familiar, it's Tony Levin who also plays for Peter Gabriel, Stickmen, and who's done a lot of studio work.

The "Discipline" album was a great comeback KC album.
it would be the other way around first crimson than primus
Pre dates Primus by about 10 years

Primus is heavily influenced by King Crimson.
I knew I wasn’t crazy lol
Primus may have been influenced by King Crimson, but-and no offense-Primus can't compare to Crimson. These are grown-ups onstage here.
Les Claypool would agree with you.
So sad
Primus and especially Tool count KC as major influences.
