Jim Norton is actually hilarious. He's even funny when he's not telling jokes.
At that point he was just trying to make Patrice laugh and I loved it.

It was a hack line that Patrice gave way to much credit for, which I assume he had more context for in studio. I'd like to think jericho was blinking uncontrollably and that's why Patrice thought it was extra funny for that average joke.

CLAMHAT definitely not a hack line. It wasn’t much more than that but it was fairly innocuous for this show, and Jericho acted way too cunty over it, these guests should know the show they’re doing a little more before they agree to make an appearance.

Of all the 150+ in-studio appearances, phoners and live shows I've seen of Patrice on The Opie and Anthony Show I have to say this is among my favourite Patrice moments. I'm not sure Jimmy even realises it, and only on my 3rd listen now I can hear how hard Patrice is trying to save him, so much so that he eventually just attacks a random woman and takes all the heat for 5 minutes and then it's all forgotten.
I hope lil yeeeemy appreciates how much Patrice loved him.

They all (including Opie) make fun of Vos, constantly, for his idiocy. Opie is just as bad as Vos at speaking. The difference is, with Vos, it turns into something hilarious.

The reason this show was so great was the build up. The way it builds up to 57:30 is perfect. After that Jim and Patrice takes over and creates magic.

For anyone not aware, Jericho´s sensitivity to the joke is related to the fact that his mom was a quadriplegic. He took care of her since he was 19.
They are friends now anyway I think, and it was a little bit of a overreaction to that shitty one liner which is the reason people love that little guy Jimmy Norton.

I'm pretty sure they were in on the bit. Maybe not the entire staff, but at least Opie + Ant and anyone else who had computer screens. Opie had the "paralyzed mom" thing queued up on his screen too quickly for it to be discovered in the moment; it was obviously part of the pre-interview notes, and they either planned for Jimmy to slip in the joke, or they kept Jimmy out of it, figuring they'd mention the Christopher Reeve charity and wait for one of the comedians to make the predictable gag.

I just listened to this for the first time and it was gold!! I think that most of these actor guests come in thinking that O&A would just cater to them because most radio shows kiss ass because they want the actor to come back on the show. But O&A never cared about that and they would bust everyone's balls and they would circle the wagons, especially for Jimmy.

Listening to this a bunch of times - it was Jimmy that kind of egged it on. Patrice made a joke about "Jimmy having no bones in his face" that killed and they could have actually moved on. Jimmy said the whole "you really are mad... and I am a Comedian" line. He kept it going.

I don't think Norton was a weasel. Norton was a comic to the bone. He'd do anything just to make people laugh. Not for their validation, but because it's what drove him.
You heard him say "I'd take the beating just to get the laugh." He and Patrice were born comics. That's why Patrice goes into that speech about being chased with knives for being funny. He'd still try to be funny the next day. You can't stab funny out a true comedian.

Actor Christopher Reeve was paralyzed from the neck down after a horseback-riding mishap. Wrestler Chris Jericho's mother was paralyzed (quadriplegic) for the later years of her life, which is why Jericho was so touchy about it.
Jimmy and Anthony (and the other standup comedian guests) are constantly making jokes about paralyzed millionaires having expensive hats, or blinking/spitting at people, or having voice-synthesizers. The "Paralyzed Opie" bit is a particularly funny segment in this vein. Inevitable that a joke like this would surface.

I dunno man- this Jericho visit was always one of my favorite O&A moments ever. I always see a lot of people complaining that Jericho is sensitive. But if you're a wrestling fan and have gotten to learn how Jericho is in real life w messing w people, he really isn't too different than the O&A guys.
I just feel like if he had shown up and been bland and try to have been textbook guest, he would have been damned. But he got into a hilarious spat w Norton and he seems damned anyway.
I read his book and saw the paraplegic thing coming a mile away bc it IS something that affected him a lot in his life, but I think he handled it well.
