    You are living like people only imagine to do in their dreams!!!
    People pay millions to have oceanfront living like that!
    Kudos to you and all your hard work! You deserve it!!! What a dream; a once in a lifetime experience.
    I'm applying to the DR. I can't wait to see what God has in his plans for me.

    Bula Vinaka Ricky, It appears that you like your small Fijian Bure and it saddens me to see that almost all of our Fijian Villages have no Fijian Bure and the knowledge to construct it. Watching your video has made me realized how much we have lost as an indigenous group. I hope you love being here in Fiji and Vinaka Vakalevu for your service. Vinaka

    I find it so weird that as some countries develop, they forego their thatched roofs and woven walls for corrugated tin and cement, but in my opinion the traditional materials are much more beautiful and homely!

    • @RickyKresslein
      @RickyKresslein  7 років тому +5

      Yes I agree! The modern materials are easier, but the traditional is much nicer

    That's incredible. Most Fijians have never slept or liven in a bure. You're very lucky indeed to have had the experience with a million dollar view.

    I would be so happy there like. Jesus Christ that is so gorgeous. I want to go to the Eastern Caribbean or Dominican Republic. I am just worried about storms/hurricanes. Were there any bad storms there?

    • @RickyKresslein
      @RickyKresslein  8 років тому +9

      Thank you Arria! Yes there was a really bad cyclone earlier this year. Several volunteers left Peace Corps due to the destruction of their homes and over 50 locals lost their lives not to mention the thousands that lost their homes. Storms in the Pacific are intense and are becoming increasingly common.

    This is gorgeous! Do you get to choose where you go in the peace corps?

    • @RickyKresslein
      @RickyKresslein  8 років тому +3

      Thank you! Just last year, the Peace Corps made it possible to choose your country while applying. When I applied I could not choose. However, once in country, your site (village, city, etc.) is chosen for you.

      +Ricky Kresslein you're welcome. Thanks for the feedback! I'm excited to apply. Do you get scholarships to go to college after you served your two years?

    • @RickyKresslein
      @RickyKresslein  8 років тому +5

      +Caroline Smith TV No scholarships, it is usually a necessity to have a bachelors degree to join Peace Corps, however you do get a readjustment allowance of about $8,000 at the end of your service and some grad schools offer free admission to select returned peace corps volunteers.

    , I know that this is tough. Living in USA grade apartments with scented candles, running water, space, closets etc. A massive adjustment. However, we make our own reality and this kind of environment is one with nature, pure basics and grounded living for only necessity. You have so much space now to focus on what really matters

    Amazing! I am sending out my application soon, and I hopefully will be able to go to Fiji! What's your favorite part about serving the Fijian people?

    • @RickyKresslein
      @RickyKresslein  8 років тому +10

      That's awesome, good luck! My favorite part of being here and doing my part in Fiji is what the Fijian people teach me. Every day I learn something from them, from how to be kinder to how to squeeze coconut flesh into milk.

    • @RickyKresslein
      @RickyKresslein  8 років тому +20

      After I arrived in my village I told someone I wanted a cat to keep the rats out of my house so they gave me a kitten.
