i never really payed attention to yacht, but after watching this i'm absolutely in love. claire's theatrics top it off. you can tell she's actually feeling and responding to the music, instead of just performing another song.
Since I couldn't find it anywhere else, here are the performers names Jona Bechtolt (Blazer) - Keys Claire Bechtolt (White) - Vocals Rob "Bobby Birdman" Kieswetter - Guitar/vocals Jeffery Brodsky - Keys Katy Davidson (glasses) - Vocals/Guitar
People only complain about things and criticize, let's try being less horrible on each other, why throw all this hate on them, don't like it just walk away, they're incredible people very friendly and don't deserve these horrid comments, can't understand why people hate so much...
Its hard for people who dont perform to keep an open mind and see the beauty in the small monents in life. They are good in their own right.....and fun to watch.
Steven Webb I was able to see them performing when I was strolling around Texas, they were at a small bar/caffe place, then I ordered something to wait until they were done performing, afterwards I approach them and told that I was a big fan and everything else, dude they were super nice, talked to me a long time even drank a beer along with me, Claire and Jona are great people, talented and kind, after that I became more than a fan, an admirer, Claire is a science journalist, she's one brilliant girl, haha, sorry about the long text, but I just wanna express that, people should stop hating so much, specially on the internet, instead of bitching on each other, why not support with good words, after all we're all humans, one in the same, so why share so much hate...
I remember listening to Yacht around this time and earlier and I had completely forgotten about them for nearly 15 years! I'm so glad I've rediscovered them, they're incredible
I'm pretty impressed, from the sound of there songs, I wouldn't think they would sound so natural live, they sound just like the recorded stuff, good job YACHT!
Catchy tunes and good performance but a little raw at times. I found a whole bunch of YACHT songs that I like. Lots of talent and originality. I see a long life with this band.
I had not heard of this group before watching this...I watched it once with my head cocked and a 'WTF' expression...couldn't decide if I loved it or hated it...so I watched it again...then again...then I gave up on deciding and went to bed. I woke up with the chorus lines rolling around in my head. So I watched it again. I still don't think I've decided, but I know I keep coming back to it....
i think people dont like this kind of music because people dont recognize something's that's been missing from the mainstream for a long time. good song writing.
+Soundbelch you are definitely entitled to all your negative opinion. must be hungry from keeping all your hate going. have a fuck you sandwich. mmm taste just like your failed life.
I definitely agree that her gestures and expressions are a bit over the top, but you can tell she's having a lot of fun with this. I think that's what's really important.
This is Portland for you. Yacht is fucking boss. Hello! That's Dear Nora singing background vocals. I can't place the guitarist or the keyboardist, but they look familiar. But this is some super team right here. Yacht used to just be tge dude in all bkack. Then she joined and it changed. Really great stuff
haha, you make a great point! You caught me in the act. Still awesome band though. What I like best is how they handle their electronics and how they put in these musical 'clichés' which you also find in pop music, but at least YACHT seem to know what they are doing and manage to overdo it in such a way that it just becomes plain awesome. Plus, you can HEAR them having so much fun that it's contagious.
It's a good thing there are three songs cuz I thumbs-up'd it after each one and the 2nd one just undid the first one.. the third one saved the day though! :D
fucking rad retro tunes. actually an artist. Reminising the days where it didn't matter if the artist was beautiful, or had a perfect voice. it was thier sound. thier music. It's just fucking ART. Love this. Thank you NPR.
weirdly enough i tracked this band down due to GTA5, "dystopia" would've been a better choice for sticking up armored trucks than "pysychic city" but such is life. never the less,i found a gem amongst the turds of modern music one way or the other.
They grew up in Portland. What do you expect? Something not strange? I think this is such a great little break from typical music. Shangri-La could be one of my favorite songs of all time.
So, I'm writing from the future (2022) and having missed all the (k)news of this group (evidently providence has smiled up on me)... this is pretty entertaining and well written tune smithing...Not a big fan of whatever you want to call this genre but i laughed, i cried, i threw my hands up in the air and danced... well done... btw the earth is still on fire and the future - not so cool.. until the time machine arrives and those of us who can afford it can live in the timeframe(s) of their choice - this will have to do... my mama said there'd be days like this...
are you kidding? You hear the notes he's hitting? He's like an octave higher than Claire. (I'm actually reconsidering the gender of that musician, since i see neither a trace of facial hair nor much of an adam's apple.)
apple milkshake No.I am not kidding. I was joking...relax and if you take this or any music to seriously you will risk hipster danger...Danger Will Robinson..Danger!
0:01 - Dystopia 4:23 Psychic City 9:27 Shangri - La. Rather bummed out they didn't play Utopia.. the bass line in that song is all lime bum ba ba da dada

I like her voice of this lady..... It's a cool band

MrGenedancingmachine fuck right off.
commencing fuck off, weeb.
Same why cant people leave shit alone if u dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all
Love it! And love how conflicted the comments are. Seeing this sort of music "unplugged" is utterly fascinating.
I remember listening to Yacht around this time and earlier and I had completely forgotten about them for nearly 15 years! I'm so glad I've rediscovered them, they're incredible

They are so good live seen them a bunch of tymes!!!!
I love the Tiny desk always so much stuff I've never seen and now love so much..😎💚🤟
quite interesting and what a voice, she really has an ability to vocalize, beautiful eyes to boot.
I didn't like this at first but when I came back to it again I liked it. An acquired taste
Yes quite so
@@bens2718 I hate to tell you this, but you're a fool. A little critical thinking could go a long way in fixing that.
This is such an amazing band. Claire is such a great performer and songwriter.❤
Catchy tunes and good performance but a little raw at times. I found a whole bunch of YACHT songs that I like. Lots of talent and originality. I see a long life with this band.
so much energy in their music! Love it!

This was all I could think of watching this whole video. I love it.
Throw back to Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club. Great to see some un-selfconcious
authenticity. Awesome.
ahhhh! best yet. too great. love jona bechtolt.
Claire is so much more into it than everyone else.
I think that's vibe they try for. 4 people in drab Grey button ups and she's the bright loose one. You know all these folk a freaks.
What a refreshing performance, this made my day. She seems so cool, too.
i think people dont like this kind of music because people dont recognize something's that's been missing from the mainstream for a long time. good song writing.
+anarekist Yes!!! My thought, too!! Well said!
+Soundbelch you are definitely entitled to all your negative opinion. must be hungry from keeping all your hate going. have a fuck you sandwich. mmm taste just like your failed life.
+Soundbelch pretty much inconsequential as anything we all comment on. live long and suffer.
+Soundbelch listening to something you don't like for two days pretty much qualifies that you've already had it.
well the dog stole it and died. i blame you for all eternity.
I definitely agree that her gestures and expressions are a bit over the top, but you can tell she's having a lot of fun with this. I think that's what's really important.
Soo stoked to see them tonight in Denver!
This girl is so over the top...i love her!
This is Portland for you. Yacht is fucking boss. Hello! That's Dear Nora singing background vocals. I can't place the guitarist or the keyboardist, but they look familiar. But this is some super team right here.

It's a good thing there are three songs cuz I thumbs-up'd it after each one and the 2nd one just undid the first one.. the third one saved the day though! :D
I'm hearing some Tracy + The Plastics influence here. Good stuff!
Plus.. she feels what she's singing. That's certainly special.
love this band...see you at the new Underbelly in Jax FL June 3rd!! Thanks for coming.
fucking rad retro tunes. actually an artist. Reminising the days where it didn't matter if the artist was beautiful, or had a perfect voice. it was thier sound. thier music. It's just fucking ART. Love this. Thank you NPR.

Claire is soooo damn cool!!!
glad to see them having fun, we should all be so lucky .
I personally liked the part where everyone switched instruments for the fuck of it. Seriously how do people listen to this?

Really really cool
They grew up in Portland. What do you expect? Something not strange? I think this is such a great little break from typical music. Shangri-La could be one of my favorite songs of all time.

Super fun stuff
LOVEEEEEE
I love this.
after laughing a little, these guys are "the Big bang theory" nerds, the music is very cool and the lyrics are too! I like!!!
Lovelovelove Claire's voice. I usually hate chic singers, but not her. I want her to come to my house and sing to me. Oh, Jona too.
great stuff! this is better than top of the pop
0:00 - Dystopia
4:30 - Psychic City
9:20 - Shangri La
Long live Katy Davidson.
Peace On Earth!
Sweet Vid! Little Phatty in Action
Wow... Goosebumps!

It sounds like an 8bit melody. Acoustic electronic music? HAHAH Great. Fantastic. Just amazing. Just beautiful music.
You think if money gets tight in YACHT the first guy to go is the singer with the glasses?
are you kidding? You hear the notes he's hitting? He's like an octave higher than Claire.
(I'm actually reconsidering the gender of that musician, since i see neither a trace of facial hair nor much of an adam's apple.)
apple milkshake No.I am not kidding. I was joking...relax and if you take this or any music to seriously you will risk hipster danger...Danger Will Robinson..Danger!
whew, I really thought you were petitioning to have that singer fired. Crisis averted amirite?
***** Her name is Katy Davidson, and she recently left the band.
David Davidson did she???
I didn't know Mary roach had a band
0:01 - Dystopia 4:23 Psychic City 9:27 Shangri - La. Rather bummed out they didn't play Utopia.. the bass line in that song is all lime bum ba ba da dada
fantastic
She reminds me of Annie Lennox. First time i've heard of them. Glad i stumbled on to them. : )
cool
i'm getting a 'stand by me' vibe from the look of this line-up
Claire L. Evans (lead singer) reminds of the Eloi from the film The Time Machine (1960)
Great voice :)
So this is what Joffrey is up to now?
YACHT put on one of the best live performances I've ever been to, along with being the kindest people. ☮♥▲
CAN'T.... THE HIPSTER.... IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!!
She's really feeling it!
dork music, I can dig it.
Love her voice.
It's Katie Davidson of Key Losers! That's so awesome!
where can i get one of those cool pins?
sicky dance moves
I wish NPR would moderate these comments and remove hateful language.
These guys are all extremely talented
@ds1904ds So where do you fit into that rating system?
i literally cannot stop laughing at this comment. im so glad im not the only one who feels this way.
The NPR PR IS ON FIRE
This band reminds me of Zooey Deschanel's Munchausen by Proxy band, especially the synth part
