The one thing that has bugged me about the Swarm is how they cane to be. We know they are essentially the Locust 2.0, that they use their pods and such to break down humans in to new drones, and form massive organic structures and various creatures with their hives, but how did they gain this ability because the locust certainly never had this. However I was talking with my friend one day about how this couldve happened while we were playing GoW3 and it hit me. Im guessing that the Swarm are actually a hybrid of the Locust and the Lambent/Imulsion. Now when Adam fired up his machine he said "It will break down every Imulsion infected cell on Sera" or roughly along those lines, key word breakdown, not destroy but breakdown. The Locust wouldve been largely exposed to Imulsion over the years and thus had large quantities of their cells infected but also Imulsion was also part of their creation to begin with so it wouldve been oart of them already hence why they were so easy to infect. My theory is that when the machine went off since it was somehow targeting Imulsion infected cells only that it broke part of the Locust DNA sequence too, leaving a "gap" in it, and when the machine fired since it was breaking down the Imulsion cells, parts of its DNA sequence mixed in with Locust ones. Now not this wouldnt happen with every Locust but good amount, hence why it took 25 years for the Swarm to surface because most likely the number of Locust that had this happen to them were low compared to their original population and they had to build up their forces again, and why Scions (which were Locust in the Swarm) were fewer in number than typical Swarm drones. In addition, if combined the Imulsion/Lambent DNA that would explain why they have the ability to create these massive fleshy creatures and structures, because the original Locust never could do this but we see in GoW3 the various Lambent mutations that give a variety of different forms (Stalks, Dredges, Polyps, etc.). Plus combines with the Locust hive mind which they already had with the queen this may allow them to shape these forms with much more control than having random mutations like the Lambent. That's my theory anyway, when I told my friend he kinda had an omg dude, that just blew my mind moment haha
I thought Adam's machine would breakdown both Lambent and Locust cells (considering 3 was the last that cliff worked on)? I like your theory as I thought the exact same but with a twist. Instead of the "new" locust having too little forces, what if the majority of them were just evolving like you see in gears 4? That 25 years was spent with the lambent and Locust DNA combining to make a force that could go against what the lambent DNA has recorded (Ill assume the lambent could record experiences in their DNA)?
Here's a nice experiment for you: Go to a relatively small room in your building with a large mirror. Stand before the mirror and turn the light off. Leave the door to this room open just a hair - just enough to let a minuscule amount of light in. Just enough to barely let you see your silhouette. Minimize movement and sound. Allow at least ten minutes or so watching yourself in that mirror. For most folks it won't take that long before you see things that will make you bolt. Your mind, to keep you "safe" may create imagery that is designed to keep you on edge. It's evolution, baby.
I've noticed pods change appearance depending on how old they are. I've also noticed that the pods that have nothing in them and the pods that do look exactly the same. So I had the idea that maybe not all humans can be mutated into into swarm and some are just broken down and can't be mutated correctly.
The Locusts were originally born from humans, so it isn't a big jump for them to work out a way to change humans into Locust. They were probably working on this from the very beginning: They hadn't been capturing humans just for slave labor, *they were gathering test subjects.* They didn't use it before for two reasons: Their explosive breeding rate gave them plenty of numbers, and the conversion process wasn't perfect. Even now, it seems to be a 50/50 shot at best.
Great video. Glad to see your channel building steam. Human capture by Locust = Locust taking revenge, using slave labor, feeding people to their beasts to make them more eager to fight humans. Human capture by Swarm = same as human infection by Imulsion, but controlled. Something interesting is that the Snatchers are clearly creating the pods, and attaching them to things. That means some of the Snatchers are small enough to fit into dog-sized crevices. That means Snatchers start out small, and capture animals/children before growing large enough to take on humans. If they're like Juvies, those small Snatchers would be extremely flexible. They'd likely be extremely stealthy, and... They might be purpose-grown in Hives like vat clones. What digs the Nests? My guess is the Carriers dig and fill Nests. They're the deep guards of Hive facilities. But nests seem to crop up on the outer perimeters of Hives, where Carriers are seldom seen. Maybe there are juvenile Carriers that specialize in creating Nests, before their armor hardens and they become the Carriers we know. Hopefully we see enemy type variations like this in Gears 6.
Another interesting thing about the imago stage of swarm drones is they sort of seem very for lack of a better word savage and dumb because they don’t really have any higher tactical ability after changing except knowing how to use guns and honestly I feel they work off of genetic instinct (point end towards enemy and pull trigger) given how still very soft they are. Given enough time imagos can harden and become far smarter as they go on and there’s a far more interesting question of what dictate an imago turning into a drone, Grenadier, or hunter given how physically they almost seem to take on roles the way ants have workers, soldiers and breeders
the amount of times i have been affected by sleep paralysiz is insane. especially when i was on sleeping meds which made me sleep for 16 hours sometimes if i could. but i would basically go into that state multiple times a night/day. also sometimes i would constantly flick between that state and normal sleep like basically go from wanting to scream cuz i would see shit move towards me or simply due to the feeling of being kinda freaked out from a dream or so but being unable to move or truly wake up to then like sleeping soundly have awesome dreams but mostly nightmares which made me go into Sleep Paralysiz again.. it's freaky as hell and i am glad that i am no longer on those pills it doesn't happen as frequently but once a year or so now.
Have you ever considered studying some of the enemies in dark souls? I think you'd have a field day with all the mutations and monstrosities to find in those games
One one of the forums, I can't remember which one though, TC finalized that Dels death is canon. It would be cool though if Gears 6 was like the walking dead and the game would ask us who we picked so we can choose who dies.
It’s gunna be JD’s death. Del was with Kait for the whole campaign and were super close, JD was on really bad terms with Kait and Del in the first half of the campaign and then redeemed himself. That being said JD seems like the character to be sacrificed. And there goes everything we loved about gears with him.
Gotta disagree with the subdue and tentacle bit. Oscar managed to cut its way out of a snatcher at the end of gears 4 and escape. Still great vid tho x
I wonder if its possible for those people that turned, to have their memories back or at least recognize that they are no longer human. Cause it has been studied with butterflies and moths, that they still have memories of when they were caterpillars. They did an experiment with a specific sound and tiny electric shocks on caterpillars. When they were adults they would do the same sound and all butterflies and moths that would get shocked would fly around crazy trying to get away while those that weren't stayed still and weren't freaking out. So if the humans can introduce some sort of device to the pods that cut off the connection to the hive and brought out old memories, could that be enough to turn those who became loctus to the human side?
@@ejperez3691 No need to apologize bro, your idea is really good. I hope the Coalition adds it in Gears 6. Do you mind me reposting this on a forum so The Coalition would know?
4:07 haha, my sister n i have a freind you never wanna be next to as he sleeps, he sleep talks and in doing so occasionally will "starfish" where he suddenly and violently straightens his arms and legs out like a starfish Hes punched another freind 3 times in the face in his sleep.
Man, I remember my most terrifying experience with sleep paralysis... I was being eaten alive by a nosalis from the Metro games, and every time it took a bite out of me my eyes would close slightly, however every time I hit it or knocked it away from my body my eyes would open a little. Eventually, I beat it after enough hits resulting in my eyes opening fully which resulted in me fully waking up, however what truly terrifies me is wondering what would've happened to me should I have lost that battle and were my eyes to close fully.
Nothing. Sleep paralysis blends your waking body and your dream state. SP events feel like they last for ages when in reality they last seconds at most. They're just nightmares.
I never touched gears 4, but it is pretty neat how they scaled up a similar metamorphic process actual insects use to human size; and yes despite the insides being goo-ified similar to this process, scientists tested the memory of several cocoon based insects with the few stimuli that the bugs could process and remember and confirmed their nerve cluster/brain was indeed intact in this seemingly destructive process. I'm actually surprised more entomology parallels weren't made in the video actually.
Still curious as to how all the varying, unrelated, species that were in the Locust army, as basically warbeasts, got merged into the Swarm's life cycle all from imulsion being killed in their cells. Unlikely, but hoping Gears 6 dives into that
I cannot look at the “Prime Minister Bot” without bursting out laughing. Who though it was a good idea to make the villain a tiny lady whose face gets stretched by the Bot’s display screen lol
For those want to know where the jump scare came from its just a clip from a short movie where a helpful demon reminds a woman to shut off her lights to save electricity. Look for Lights Out the short film not the longer one.
Hey Roanoke would you do an analysis on the zeds of killing floor. They're completely man made and cloned so i think it would be interesting to see your interpretations of the zeds

I realize I'm paralyzed every time. Living hell. Completely locked up, can't speak... all you can do is hope you draft into sleep quickly for those last 15 or 20 minutes
Idk, piercing the back of the brain stem or anything to do with direct contact/disruption of the brainstem would cause immediate organ failure/death. Your brainstem only controls your involuntary nervous system, so the snatchers would most likely target other parts of your brain that control your motor movements/ more advanced parts of our brain cuz it would be counter productive to touch/effect the brainstem in anywY
i'm not a gears player so in completely new to this idea so i got a couple questions. 1 what does "introducing to the hive" do exactly? like can they see what the hive see and if so, why not control the hive while connected? 2nd if there consciousness is in the hive, doesn't that mean that the brain cant be broken down for fear of losing the complexity of it and its use to create drones?
Excellent quality and in-depth analysis. Wonder if the process interrupted in a different manner now that we have Kait who can pseudo control the swarm would change things. As if, what if she instructed the pods to not brainwash the person during the process of the transformation or strip away their personalities and memories, so that at the end of it all, they were still "them" but with a new body? Would they commit suicide at the thought of it? I'd assume so because you've had everything taken away from you. I'd be sending Swarm drones like that out to fight because it'd be demoralizing as hell to know this the fate awaiting for you both to the enemy and my own troops if they fail me to drive that fear into them. I bring it up because it's odd they'd specifically showcase the incomplete process.
Yeah, and the Hivebusters saw the memories of that Hive. Meanwhile, Marcus saw *current events* in the network, implying he was much more mentally disciplined... Or the Swarm changed some of the chemicals involved in their capture process as a direct result of Gears 4. Maybe both. The latter definitely makes sense for an army that specializes in genetic engineering. If they could, they’d absolutely seek to encrypt their hivemind against humans. And since they probably remembered Marcus, they’d put 2-and-2 together when they saw he’d escaped AND gone straight to the new Queen’s hive.
@@WisdomThumbs they already talked about it, its because marcus had no mask while hivebusters did Also lmao, more disciplined? Keegan was an onyx guard
@@WisdomThumbs also They dont really see the memories of the hive with the adrenaline injectors, they just all 3 enter a dream state, Mac directly wants to keep hivebusting because he can see his son in them, in the hivebuster comics

@@WisdomThumbs yes a kid at halvo bay, but onyx have to be by the books as ever protecting high class. Marcus disobeys order (hence why he went to the slab) Either way it was confirmed to be the mask Mask off: you connect Mask on: you dream
I have a theory on why the reason the brain makes up your worst nightmares is because its trying to get the Gabo out of your system as fast as possible by increasing your heart rate and it does it this way because the body cant move. I think that there is another hormone that is released to cause these nightmarish hallucinations. The body may realise that it is conscious and wants you moving as fast as possible, but if you're trying to sleep but something disturbing enough, like a scary movie or someone makes just enough noise in your bedroom for you to notice but not wake up, it may produce this hormone to make your heart rate increase and animate your body faster.
Couple of question i hope someone can answer.. 1 - The Original Locusts who are now the Scions, did they all come back i.e everything that got crystalized..locust brumaks corpsers etc etc? or were their numbers seriously decreased? 2- what helps the Juvies to evolve? 3- also where did the hive mind come from in gears 4 and 5? the tentacles i mean, and how they are all attached to some red tentacles. 4 - if myrrah died and she was human how is she still connected to the hive mind was her conscious attached to the matriarch?
I've never fully the terror of sleep paralysis. I had it happen to me once but nothing scary happened. I opened my eyes and found myself completely unable to move, I glanced around and felt a weight on my legs like something was there but nothing was, looking to one side my fan seemed way too close to my face to be real and as I looked around the room the shadows seemed a lot darker and more imposing than usual but the little part of my brain that is always eager to scientifically analyze everything into submission kicked on and went "OMG IT'S SLEEP PARAlYSIS! Awesome! I always wondered what this would be like! Okay start looking at everything!" And I started looking around at stuff and just as I was starting to make observations and commit stuff to memory I had a wave of sleepiness come over me and I fell back into regular sleep. When I woke up properly I had apparently been laying on my arm wrong cause it was completely numb and kinda cold and felt like rubber or latex. I could still move it at the shoulder but below that nope. Feeling did eventually return though. Still though, it wasn't a terrifying experience. Odd and unique but I snuffed out my brain's chance to surround me with nightmares by overanalyzing the experience.
Well I got once a similar situation when I had high fever. My brain just thought about a strange unlocical thing at the highest end of that living nightmare my body fell into sleep by some kinda thing. As I woke up I got sweat everywhere
I just realized this now after awhile that the humanity on sera is becoming a subspecies from what the original human was and the transformations is alot easy to do then humans on earth
I think this theory is disproven in the new hive gametype in the new gears game where a soldier puts on a rebreather and just bursts out of the pod in the hive.
You know what’s weird. I had sleep paralysis relatively recently and the second I saw my shadow man I could just feel my eardrums. My tinnitus played up massively, my neck and the area beneath my ear shells felt like they would explode and, yeah I was fucking afraid of what I saw. I have no idea if the former two rings are normal but damn am I wondering what actual reason is behind all of it
I’ve had sleep paralysis episodes many times. It used to fuck with me but now, it’s happened so many times, I just go with it and see what happens. I usually hear 2 or 3 guys or something like a shadow demon/monster saying fucked up evil shit and walking around the house breaking stuff. I’ve gotten more lucid control of it over time and can wake myself out of it but I like to hang out in the “dream” for a while and check it out. Melatonin has triggered it a bunch of times and I’ll randomly take some to see if I can trigger it.

That 25 years was spent with the lambent and Locust DNA combining to make a force that could go against what the lambent DNA has recorded (Ill assume the lambent could record experiences in their DNA)?
great video (as always) and that sleep paralysis monster you showed scared me severely (>
Ik I couldn't sleep bc of it
Here's a nice experiment for you:
Go to a relatively small room in your building with a large mirror.
0:26 Oh I know exactly how the rest of this goes ;)
UNZIPS

I've noticed pods change appearance depending on how old they are. I've also noticed that the pods that have nothing in them and the pods that do look exactly the same. So I had the idea that maybe not all humans can be mutated into into swarm and some are just broken down and can't be mutated correctly.
The only time I had anything close to sleep paralysis, I forced myself to scream. My body went into panic overdrive, though.
man i love this channel. The ladd does WORK when making these videos!
This Channel has learned me more biology then the actual biology lessons in school
Susan Wallace why is that so true
Grammar next then buddy!
Julie Andrews better?
Susan Wallace not really
The Locusts were originally born from humans, so it isn't a big jump for them to work out a way to change humans into Locust. They were probably working on this from the very beginning: They hadn't been capturing humans just for slave labor, *they were gathering test subjects.* They didn't use it before for two reasons: Their explosive breeding rate gave them plenty of numbers, and the conversion process wasn't perfect. Even now, it seems to be a 50/50 shot at best.
Please make a vid explaining the lore of everything from locust to swarm, detailing everything along the way, thanks ;)
I'd really love for you to cover The Reapers from Mass Effect and their conversion process
the amount of times i have been affected by sleep paralysiz is insane. especially when i was on sleeping meds which made me sleep for 16 hours sometimes if i could. but i would basically go into that state multiple times a night/day. also sometimes i would constantly flick between that state and normal sleep like basically go from wanting to scream cuz i would see shit move towards me or simply due to the feeling of being kinda freaked out from a dream or so but being unable to move or truly wake up to then like sleeping soundly have awesome dreams but mostly nightmares which made me go into Sleep Paralysiz again.. it's freaky as hell and i am glad that i am no longer on those pills it doesn't happen as frequently but once a year or so now.
Have you ever considered studying some of the enemies in dark souls? I think you'd have a field day with all the mutations and monstrosities to find in those games
Imagine this man as a teacher talking about all these video subjects
Gotta repost this: Snatchers are Sleep Paralysis Demons *CONFRIMED* by Sir. Mr. Dr. Professor Roanoke 2020
After the events that occurred in Gears 5, I wonder who's death will be canon, JD or Del.
my best guess, is Del, JD had too much character development
Just Some Guy without a Mustache It better be Del, gonna be pissed if they kill JD off.
One one of the forums, I can't remember which one though, TC finalized that Dels death is canon. It would be cool though if Gears 6 was like the walking dead and the game would ask us who we picked so we can choose who dies.
i dont consider 4 or 5 to be canon. Lol, fanfiction.
It’s gunna be JD’s death. Del was with Kait for the whole campaign and were super close, JD was on really bad terms with Kait and Del in the first half of the campaign and then redeemed himself. That being said JD seems like the character to be sacrificed. And there goes everything we loved about gears with him.
Last thing I wanted was a random jump scare from sleep paralysis at 11:30PM, thanks Roanoke
I wonder if the swarm will start to learn to avoid or counter the Hivebuster Elites?
Gotta disagree with the subdue and tentacle bit. Oscar managed to cut its way out of a snatcher at the end of gears 4 and escape. Still great vid tho x
mean you basicly said what happens to a catapiller to a butterfly with just a little sifi thrown in aswell as the mind stuff
so sounds good :)
I saw this video the first upload, but I wanna make sure you get the view count my guy, I got you
Always love your content but, monster hunter I think would bang on this channel, lots of monsters with very interesting mechanics
True
*Locust
And also, I think you mean swarm, not locust. Locust were the enemies in gears 1-3. Good idea though.
@@CAceDubz sorry, never really played any gears of war games, but whenever I come across vids like this I like to watch them
@@ejperez3691 No need to apologize bro, your idea is really good. I hope the Coalition adds it in Gears 6. Do you mind me reposting this on a forum so The Coalition would know?
@@CAceDubz Go ahead I dont mind, it would be very awesome if this idea does get added
@@ejperez3691 Thank you so much, bro.
2:25 in the escape mode you can play as a cog soldier and you don’t get knocked out
Because you have adrenaline injectors
When UA-cam screws over Roanoke n you get to watch the video n like it again
"Ah shit here we go again"
Yeah I’ve waken up before and couldn’t move. It happens to me sometimes but I don’t panic as much anymore. I still try to move but it’s no use.
Well thanks, this was a bit more interesting then I expected.
Holy fuck i remember as a child i got sleep paralysis and saw some black figure sitting on my chest
I really don’t mind re-watching re uploads for Monetization.
4:07 haha, my sister n i have a freind you never wanna be next to as he sleeps, he sleep talks and in doing so occasionally will "starfish" where he suddenly and violently straightens his arms and legs out like a starfish
Hes punched another freind 3 times in the face in his sleep.
Rewatched because this video is actually entertaining unlike most youtubers
4:44 Jesus, I've never had a sleep paralysis demon that human.
I have a question, are you gonna make anything from Subnautica. Its my favourite game that really interested me in biology.
4:44 scared the absolute shit out of me
Whenever my sleep paralysis demon comes out he asks if we have Oreos
honestly the best lore youtube in youtube
For those want to know where the jump scare came from its just a clip from a short movie where a helpful demon reminds a woman to shut off her lights to save electricity.
Look for Lights Out the short film not the longer one.
why the hell did I watch this at night, the sleep paralysis part where it showed that woman with the eyes freaking made me look around my room I swear
Hey Roanoke would you do an analysis on the zeds of killing floor.
They're completely man made and cloned so i think it would be interesting to see your interpretations of the zeds
4:34 ..... Thanks now I don't need to sleep tonight. Came here for science not fright-ence. Which is a word that I am now claiming.
For any one wondering where that creepy ass clip that played when he was describing sleep paralysis is from here ya go

Nice video !
So it's basically a "butterfly cocoons". Damn, nasty.
What movie was at 4:45? Looks terrifying and great.
i'm not a gears player so in completely new to this idea so i got a couple questions.
Talk about the hivebuster program and their adrenaline injectors, it shows that humans just start dreaming until they're transformed
@@WisdomThumbs they already talked about it, its because marcus had no mask while hivebusters did
Also lmao, more disciplined? Keegan was an onyx guard
@@WisdomThumbs also
They dont really see the memories of the hive with the adrenaline injectors, they just all 3 enter a dream state, Mac directly wants to keep hivebusting because he can see his son in them, in the hivebuster comics
@@SpartanChief2277 Keegan explained he was only Onyx because he was in the right place at the right time to be saved by Onyx Guards. Keegan doesn't have the willpower of Marcus Fenix. Pretty much nobody does.
@@WisdomThumbs yes a kid at halvo bay, but onyx have to be by the books as ever protecting high class. Marcus disobeys order (hence why he went to the slab)
Either way it was confirmed to be the mask
Mask off: you connect
Mask on: you dream
That thumbnail looks like a new spaghetti recipe
I have a theory on why the reason the brain makes up your worst nightmares is because its trying to get the Gabo out of your system as fast as possible by increasing your heart rate and it does it this way because the body cant move. I think that there is another hormone that is released to cause these nightmarish hallucinations. The body may realise that it is conscious and wants you moving as fast as possible, but if you're trying to sleep but something disturbing enough, like a scary movie or someone makes just enough noise in your bedroom for you to notice but not wake up, it may produce this hormone to make your heart rate increase and animate your body faster.
Roanoke what do you think about the snatcher from gears of war? How would you explain it opening its stomach and holding people in it
Snatchers makes the pods which become the swarm but what created the first snatcher which started the whole thing?
Most likely niles
Okay start looking at everything!"
And I started looking around at stuff and just as I was starting to make observations and commit stuff to memory I had a wave of sleepiness come over me and I fell back into regular sleep.
My sleep paralysis demon looked like SCP-106 and sounded like a speak’n’spell and was spelling murder
You need a brain exam asap
so basically...
it's like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly
Eyy it’s me wus kraken I played dbd with u last round that was epic, r u gonna stream dbd soon tho
i wasn't paying attention and i looked back at 4:40.
4:44 scared the living shit out of me. 😣😫
I have no idea if the former two rings are normal but damn am I wondering what actual reason is behind all of it
Lately I been stopping myself from that paralyzed state while sleeping and I don’t why my brain doesn’t want me to go through it. Strange 🤷🏽♂️
snatcher: somebody had a dirty mind and got it through XD
I’ve had sleep paralysis episodes many times. It used to fuck with me but now, it’s happened so many times, I just go with it and see what happens. I usually hear 2 or 3 guys or something like a shadow demon/monster saying fucked up evil shit and walking around the house breaking stuff. I’ve gotten more lucid control of it over time and can wake myself out of it but I like to hang out in the “dream” for a while and check it out. Melatonin has triggered it a bunch of times and I’ll randomly take some to see if I can trigger it.
