  • For a good portion of June 2023, BNSF's local freight train 664 had been operating with two former Santa Fe diesel locomotives, both in the "Bluebonnet" freight scheme, on their journeys from Eddyville, Iowa to Galesburg, Illinois and back (as train 663). The locomotives are BNSF 1755, an SD40-2 (former ATSF 5187), and BNSF 169, a GP60 (former ATSF 4010). On the evening of June 24th, during one of my livestream broadcasts here on UA-cam, the local arrived in town with the two diesels still in charge on this run, and I was finally able to get a shot of them. Train 664 was the last train of six that I saw during the livestream (click here to watch the archive: ua-cam.com/users/liveY0DXMf_aY7I), as they passed Market Street in downtown. After I ended my stream, I drove over to Iowa Avenue, on the east end of the small BNSF yard in Ottumwa. 664 usually stops here to work the yard, so I hoped to get another view of the train as they did their switching. I got to Iowa Avenue with a couple minutes to spare, as the crew wrapped up their work in the yard to continue east. This video features this scene, as the train leaves Ottumwa, with the engines throttling up as they leave the yard. It's quite a treat to see these old diesels still running in their original paint in 2023!
