Watching you break down your kit for the UTS 100K was like diving into a treasure trove of ultra-preparedness, Ben, hehe! It's just like that saying, "Failing to prepare is like preparing to fail."
Thanks Mihai! Always like getting prepared and ready for an ultra with a kit and Clothing Breakdown 😉
Was great chatting to you yesterday as we got into CP2 :D Didn't realise you was the author of this video (has already watched and liked!). Hope you did well on the course :) I finished just before 04:00, had rollercoaster of feeling too hot, nearly DNF at Capel but took the time to rest. Will be eagerly awaiting the video I heard you recording as we descended :D
You too and congrats on the finish, what a race that was! I got in around 2.30 or so, those last 15 miles or so really dragged but got in done. Well done on your race and hope you can rest up and recover well this week 👍
Nice rundown of your race kit Ben, I hope the race went well, I'm looking forward to seeing the video 👍
Thanks Martin. Hoping to out together the video this week, was an amazing race out there!
Great, informative video! Good hacks with eco-friendly plate and a cup. You seem very well prepared. Best of luck!
Thanks for watching 😃
It feels like it's a lot of kit to carry with you, but at the same time everything seems necessary especially for a mountain race! I hope you're feeling mentally and physically ready for this epic experience, fingers crossed for ideal weather with no extreme conditions!
Certainly does, haven't had a race with this much kit before, might need a wheelbarrow to transport it all! It's looking pretty sunny at the moment so good but hopefully not too hot 😎
Good choice of shoe and great kit in the bag! Good luck for the big day buddy
Thanks James, should be a good one out there, looking pretty sunny for this weekend 🌞
Great vid dude, good luck on Saturday and I'll see you on the course! (also doing the 100k)
Thanks! Good luck to you too and hope to see you out there in the mountains ⛰️
I always like these type of vids where I get to see what other runners are using. 👌
Thanks Neil 👍 🤓
Very good video, interesting , thank you for sharing!
Thanks Lusya!
Thanks for a great video and good luck!
Thanks Christian!
Good luck 😊
Thanks 🙏
It must take as long to source / prepare / check / pack the kit as it does to complete the event! Hope everything goes well for you. At least the weather has turned for the better.
It does feel like a bit of a mission getting all the kit together, checking weight and that it works for you whilst running! Yes definitely no storms on the forecast at the moment so should be nice conditions 🌞
You've done the training, you've selected the shoes, you've packed the bags and now you're ready to rock mate! Enjoy the race bud. You're going to smash it! Keep an eye out for a GTR guy Tim Darke he's running the 100k too. 😎🤘
Thanks mate, looking forward to getting out there and trying something a bit different. Oh cool, will look out for Tim, hopefully see him on the mountains! Thanks for watching bud 👍
Thanks for the video, good to compare kit. I'd recommend the Harrier jacket for something with an adjustable hood. That's what I'm taking (not that it looks like we'll need it with the weather forecast) You got a target time? Good luck! Hopefully see you at the start line!
Thanks Angus. I've got the Harrier jacket too, great jacket and like the adjustable bits on the hood. I tend to find it a bit too hot in the summer so that's why I went for the Inov8 for UTS. Though may not use it at all with the current forecast! I just want to finish really but around 24 hours would be a bonus. Have a good one out there and may see you on the mountains!
Nice video - thanks for sharing- good luck for Saturday
Thanks Graham - to you too. Hope you have a good one out there 👍
Best of luck Ben! You've prepared well. The waist belt for pole storage, what size did you get? I have a Salomon one which is a bit small and tight even tho it was a large!? Yes I'm aware my waist may be larger! 😂So wondering about sizing for a new one. Many thanks and can't wait to follow you on race day!
Cheers Francois! I went for a medium for the waist belt and fits really well. Decathlon I've found generally fit true to size. Sized up on my Inov8 things as they come up small
GREAT video Ben, very interesting and helpful!! NOT surprising you have so much Inov8 stuff! Those gloves particularly caught my eye!! Sending you my very very very best wishes for the race and ENJOY all the suffering !!! It’s SUCH A PRIVILEGE!!! 💪🏻🏃🏻⛰️💪🏻
Thanks so much Bev. Yes the Inov8 gloves are great, really liked using them in training and nicely designed. All that's left to do now is get out to the mountains!
Hi, brilliant video and I’ve been enjoying your content. I did the 100k last year and some of the sections take much longer than anticipated so if you can I would take the more water or the option too. The section between CP2 and the new water station on the other side of the reservoir before Capel Curig is long and there’s no water once on top of Pen yr Ole Wen all the way.
A lot of people struggled last year running out of water 👍🏻
Thanks for the heads up. I'll probably take 2 spare flasks so total of 2 litres carrying capacity just in case and try and hydrate well before leaving each aid station. Definitely don't want to get caught out in the mountains! Thanks for watching
Good luck Ben. I'm aiming to arrive early afternoon to register and check out the event village, grab a pizza and then bugger off to the hotel to chill out. Then have the start at 0745 Saturday (50k). Hope it goes well!
Cheers Carl. Have a good one out there and hope to see you there. We should be getting to event village around 4pm to get us both registered and then an early night hopefully before the big day!
@@timeonfeet Will look out for you...
@@carlstoakes6240 Likewise Carl and pre-race pizza sounds a good shout!
3 hours later...😂 was that Carla, throwing in some comedy banter while you looked for your cup?
Looks like you're all set mate, as long as you can find your cup when you need it. Best of luck!
Yes that was Carla giving a nice commentary rather than helping me look for the cup 🤣 Thanks mate 👍
Check the back of the hood on the jacket…there’s a toggle to tighten the elastic on the side!
Thanks, yes I used that but still not enough to keep the hood up in windy weather! Other jackets seem to have both - one on the back and then one for around the hood too
@@timeonfeet fair enough, it works for me but maybe because I have a big head! Cheers for the video👍🏻
@@ic9037 thanks for watching 👍 I had to go up to a large in the jacket though I'm usually medium as I know Inov8s can be quite a slim fit but maybe that means the hood size is too big for me too! Need a medium hood perhaps on a large jacket 😅
Not convinced by the plate I'm afraid. Bit of moisture and it will fall apart plus you can't really wipe it clean to put back in pack.
Probably not for everyone. I've mainly got it just to meet mandatory kit. May or may not use it as I've got a small tupperware box in my drop bag and would probably use my cup for eating food anyway
