You could flash the google play edition rom in a regular m8 if you want to since they are out of inventory or if you want it on another country or color
watching this again after the Pixel announcement. I think this was the best phone to run stock android ever from a build quality standpoint. metal curved unibody and front facing stereo speakers, some of the features you'll never see on a stock android device, specially coming from google. Sad.
I installed the stock Google play rom on my M8. But I actually went back to Sense 6, they did such a great job on it. Very clean and super fast. I think the stock sense 6 is better than the Google camera app imo. This is the first UI I actually prefer over stock android!
Now this is the ONE! If u want vanilla Android in a flagship this is the phone to get. Pretty cool how they were able to keep some of the Sence 6 features and having boom sound plus amazing build quality is a bonus. Definitely my choice over the LG Nexus. Nice video *****
Dear ***** After being a subscriber of your videos for 3 years I have finally succumb to your subliminal affinity for android and bought a new Samsung. I feel guilty admitting it, but I like it. No, I'm not ready to chuck my iPhone 4S just yet, but I do enjoy many of the features (additional memory, open platform) that Apple just does not offer. Guess I have officially joined the club.
I returned mine and went back to the HTC version as no burst shot and focusing just takes for ever (have a little baby girl that's why it was important to me) but besides that I love how smooth it was and just cleaner an simple over all, great review as always!

The google play edition does not have as many features because it runs stock android, or googles own version of android. That means it gets updates very quickly compared to all other phones. The regular m8 has more features and looks different because htc puts their own skin on top of stock android. They both have the same hardware specs. The performance should be pretty much the same, since the skin htc puts on top of the regular one m8 is still very fluid and fast. The only problem with the google play edition is that it can only be used on gsm networks.
I would prefer the traditional edition of the M8 as it has sense 6. I like the overall look of sense 6 so I would prefer it over the Google play edition.
This is the way forward for android I think. I don't see why HTC can't put the full camera app on the play store and then let you just set it as default over the stock app. Death to skins. Hail to the Nexus and Google play editions
Not all people use GPE, that is why HTC and Google have worked together so people who love stock android can get great build quality, and people who love sense can use it also
You CAN hack the phone to make it a GPE. There are a few how-to videos on youtube for the HTC phones. That's the beauty of having an Android phone: they don't lock you up like Apple does.
Fluffy Greyfoot All os's have bugs. Nothings perfect. However, I'd rather have a rooted phone than a stock one with bloatware. Custom roms just opens up a whole new world for you to explore. Trust me, it's great fun.

Choose the fourth option "wipe cache partition" (using the volume keys to select option and then Home button to excecute). Allow to reboot normally and problem solved.
Just FYI, the Google Play Store is available in other regions as well, however they don't bring the GPE devices over. Only the Nexus devices and accessories are in the catalogue... In Australia anyway

In both reviews, some said the camera was BETTER on the Google Play software and THEN some said the locked down version (i.e. one made for T-Mobile or Verizon's network) took better pictures! If I want better all around camera performance (i.e. better color reproduction, speed, etc.)

Nova launcher just changes the looks, google play edition is changing the whole phone, like a nexus. If you, root your phone, you may be able to do the same thing.

***** I notice when you go in to the new Google Camera App @ 2:10 the bar for snapping the photo has a little bit of transparency to it. Unlike the bar on the N5 (at least mine) where it is solid black. I wonder if that is something they plan to bring to all devices, or the M8 GPE specifically?

M8, in its full Camera Resolution is Native Widescreen. The Moto X is the same way. N5 button isn't transparent because sensor is native 4:3

My moto x is also transparent..!! I think think it looks neat and nice and wide screen pics look better on display than a 4:3 pics
