The PVA glue is a smart idea! I tried it and found that adding another layer of glue on top after the first layer has dried makes it easier to remove. Keep up the good work :)
Great to hear it worked well! Adding another layer is something I'll have to try too!
Well done. Very timely video as well. I bought a box of old Kanna this spring (ヤフオク) and need to clean them up. Thanks for the share.
That's great! Enjoy the restoration!
Interesting use of glue to remove the rust. I've tried the electrolysis method of rust removal and it works quite well too.
Will have to give electrolysis a try too! Cheers
Ahh that glue is a brilliant idea
Thank you for sharing! how do you get the blade 90 degrees all the way? because many times the blade is not straight any more
I believe that is the tapping out part. There is a UA-cam video that goes through it in depth
Are there any chisels or kanna you recommend? Which chisels and kanna would u recommend starting with and where should you get them from?
Amazon has a few good sets. In my opinion, even though it wasn’t asked for.
his amazon store is in the description and i bought the ones he recommends and enjoy them very much since I can't go to japan right now.

Adam Ashe thanks!
Hello !!.
Here a question : do you know were buy a knife blade for a kanna ??. I m looking that one for replace. I have a japanese kanna and the sharp of the blade is 55 mm. The factory ( Senkichi ) don't sell knifes.
Thank you.
Sinc., Mauricio.
Why is the blade beaten with a hammer? What does that do?
It bends/pushes the edge down, as without that, the process of flatting the back of the blade would reduce the thickness of the kanna blade. We need to keep that thickness so it fits into the dai. By pushing the metal down we create spare material which enables us to flatten the back without thinning the blade.
Where do you buy your stones?
Well if that PVA trick isn’t the damnedest thing I’ve seen!
basically porn at this point
