  • Fly agaric and 'Phallus impudicus' fungi filmed by Neil Bromhall for www.rightplants4me.co.uk
    This Fly agaric 'Aminita muscaria' sequence is material put together filmed over two seasons.
    At the end of the sequence a Stink Horn fungi 'Phallus impudicus' grows. It's head smells of rotting flesh to attract flies and other insects. The flies eat the brown spores and fly away, distributing the spores around the forest.

    I saw these for the first time in my parents yard about 8-10 years ago. I was instantly fascinated with them. They were the first mushroom that I ever saw in real life that resembled the power up mushroom in Super Mario Bros haha. I'm fascinated with most things similar to fungus and mushrooms.. deep sea life, (ocean life in general), space, plants, ect.
    Anyways, these damn things were pretty massive too, really really interesting to see. I don't have a point to this haha I'm sorry

      Fly Agaric is also sometimes used as a psychedelic to get high. However, it is also poisonous and consuming too much will certainly kill you. Parboiling and discarding the water can reduce the toxicity, without removing the high inducing chemicals.

    Hi Neil,
    I'm an animator and really want to try out a mushroom time-lapse. To plan out the shoot time - would you mind sharing how long on average you think will I need to leave the shot in situ for to achieve a growth and decay lapse?

    • @NeilBromhall1
      @NeilBromhall1  7 років тому +1

      Hi Chloe, Getting the fungi to decay is no problem, it's getting them to grow. Fungi grow at different speeds, some growing and decay within a couple of days others take longer. My time lapse here was filmed over 10-14 days. I hope this helps. Best wishes and good luck. Neil

    • @roddy147
      @roddy147 7 років тому

      Thanks Neil! I had a go - I think I maybe brought it in too young as when it grew it was kind of miniaturised - though that may have been the low level lighting? was also quite pale red but I've managed to up that a bit in the photos. I was trying to keep the light fairly low 'forest floor light' throughout - though perhaps it actually needs a lot more light than I gave it!

    • @NeilBromhall1
      @NeilBromhall1  7 років тому +2

      Hi Cloe, Light levels won't stop the fungi from growing. They are the 'fruit' of the fungi. What they need is plenty of water to absorb and expand. Good luck and best wishes Neil
