Obey Me had a few side characters that became datable due to the rising popularity... but also because we begged to date the hot demon butler that is perfect in everything.
@Lunakitty1234 in the first game of the series, a few of the brothers genuinely love her and a few blur the line between love and wanting control over her , the games after that though it's more obvious they do love her, the games mellowed out over time lol
I am sort of new to the otome gaming community and the games itself, and I must admit that after finishing my first couple of games I was terrified that there wouldn't be enough (English-translated) games to sustain me for the rest of the year! Now, a couple of months later my backlog is long enough to last for a couple of years, and I haven't even bought a vita (*cough* yet) The community is just as wonderful as the 2D boys we all swoon over! I am happy to be a part of it 💕

After discovering your lovely channel I do not restrict myself to localized games anymore! My goal is to follow in your footsteps and learn Japanese via otome games! I absolutely need to get a PS Vita since I really, really, really want to play Kenka Banchou Otome! Even though I stumbled upon the anime by accident (misremembered a title my friend once recommended ^^) I loved the setting and the heroine, no way I can live my life without getting my hands on the game!

It's scary how much I can relate to all of the points you made. 😅 Especially buying each and every game that gets localized (limited edition of course) and adding it to the backlog immediately... and also purchasing the same game multiple times on different consoles because the port might include some extra scenarios.

I find it really ironic that they're almost polar opposites. I can't help it tho, Yang is so hot lol and Okamoto Nobuhiko's voice acting is just *chef's kiss*. And don't get me started on backlogs lol. If I only have the otome backlog, I wouldn't suffer. The problem is I have : otome, anime, manga/manhwa, light novels, web novels, K/J/C dramas and YA novels backlogs. As a newbie, this video was insightful 😆 I can definitely say I got the cage reference since Amnesia was my first. Second was Cafe Enchante and it was here I definitely encountered my first “Why hello there ❤️” moment at the side characters. Demon king and beefcake Angel 😭 Even though I’ve just started with Otome games, I’ve now gotten my hands on what I can from the vita and switch so I’ve made sure to build a backlog already lol. …..and buy what limited editions I can. Now my struggle is wanting to display the art on all the cases but I don’t exactly have the room at the moment. This was a great and fun video!

But then when otome came out on steam I went hardcore (still having to stop myself from buying them all) and I've dunked most of my teenage years on mobage. The moment you mentioned Yang fans I felt called out. When I met him he annoyed me sm I hated him, but when I played his route (2nd route for me) I fell in love because he was so refreshing? Now I finished Piofiore and my friends arent ready on what person I become once 1926 Yang comes out 😭

One of my very primary otome games was Hakuouki, and then a certain sunshine baby whom I wanted to end up with had that disease and I never played it again. I'm traumatized after that, but I still a few otome games, mostly mobile ones since I don't have a job yet and do not have a computer/ console, those are very expensive in my country.

I can name more of them, but I will stop here. However, threesome /twosome or harem are rare to happen. And that usually happen in bad ending.

I had an ipod back in 2013 where every kanji was new to me and searched it on a dictonary and then before i sleep i memorized the new words till i managed to play then full routes XD good times

I admit, after watching the Diabolik Lovers anime, I scoured eBay for a plush of Yuma (and a plush of Shin too because I just started playing Amnesia and I love Shin).
I have very little merchandise other than some mystic messenger badges. Unless you count the fact i have a collection of different animal plushies to represent the pets in the ikemen series and the pig plush (my favourite character from my secret pets is assam who is a pig turned human) and the plush of the obey me mc i made with my dad as I couldn't find any at the time.

When it comes to Piofiore, Orlok and Henri are tied as my favorite. I love my angsty men. Also Yang is hot trash and I never thought I'd like him as much as I do now after I played his route in Episodio 1926. I really enjoyed all of the routes, but Orlok needs the fluffy route he deserves instead of just never ending pain. I wheezed at the part where Orlok just went into the void, my poor boy deserves better. QvQ I've been an avid otome game player since 2016, but didn't play my real first otome game until 2017 when I bought myself a PS Vita and I've been in otome hell since and have also dragged a couple of friends into otome game hell with me with no remorse as they must now suffer with me lmao.

@@LinLinLavender After the sequel, Yang has definitely made like him more since after his route in the first game, I still didn't trust him but still enjoyed his route for what it was. As for Orlok, I was happy that he finally got the kiss CG he deserved, but I do wish his route would've had more focus on his and Lili's relationship, since they could barely get a moment of peace. My friend now has a huge backlog since they've only started playing otome games this year.

It is always refreshing to see Your video, especially, when I struggle to chose otome currently(as, YES *CLOCK ZERO* localization dream I still live in). I bought Steam Prison on sale weeks ago(hiatus), still did not started BAKUMATSU(it could be FIRST to HAKUOKI, but not on a WEST, so my atelophoby don't let me start playing 'same name but not same face, or worse, voice). Also, funny is, about games to skip, I feel similar. Overworked, too-much-reality-overloaded I am, I feel like I don' t know, if to play, as can't decide, if started, WHICH ONE from eng ones... I feel like the weird otome fan cause I have hundreds of otome games on Bluestacks and pc, a few on some consoles like my DS, basically no merchandise (just a keychain I found for Ayato from Diabolik Lovers at an anime store), I pretty much don't speak a lick of Japanese (but use Google translate's phone quick convert on my pc screen), I'm an older married Asexual woman who notices the red flags in plots (*cough* Toma in Amnesia *cough*) and doesn't really like Hakuoki, but will try most all visual novels unless it's absolutely despicable like that one where you can date a 9 year old boy... otherwise, everything else applies here to me.

I even stuck with that weird 365 app thing and bought every story etc. *and all I wanted (and still want) IS THE KING OF THE HEAVENS!!! Story*. He's so imperious, tricky, and hot. I haven't checked in a while, maybe I'll look and see if they've done it yet. Also Corvus and his weird lizard guy and the evil king. Literally every bad guy in every otome I want a route for lol.

I find the side characters in otome games to be much more appealing/interesting choices, and if anything, a better match than the actual main dudes of any given otome game I've come across in terms of personality. If an otome game is giving players choices, might as well give us choices for side characters that they took the time 'n effort in MAKING them for the story. One can always dream, right? I am sort of new to the otome gaming community and the games itself, and I must admit that after finishing my first couple of games I was terrified that there wouldn't be enough (English-translated) games to sustain me for the rest of the year! Now, a couple of months later my backlog is long enough to last for a couple of years, and I haven't even bought a vita (*cough* yet)

One of my very primary otome games was Hakuouki, and then a certain sunshine baby whom I wanted to end up with had that disease and I never played it again. I admit, after watching the Diabolik Lovers anime, I scoured eBay for a plush of Yuma (and a plush of Shin too because I just started playing Amnesia and I love Shin).
I have very little merchandise other than some mystic messenger badges.
Unless you count the fact i have a collection of different animal plushies to represent the pets in the ikemen series and the pig plush (my favourite character from my secret pets is assam who is a pig turned human) and the plush of the obey me mc i made with my dad as I couldn't find any at the time.
I also am personally not very much into merch

When it comes to Piofiore, Orlok and Henri are tied as my favorite. I love my angsty men. Also Yang is hot trash and I never thought I'd like him as much as I do now after I played his route in Episodio 1926. I really enjoyed all of the routes, but Orlok needs the fluffy route he deserves instead of just never ending pain. I wheezed at the part where Orlok just went into the void, my poor boy deserves better. QvQ
I've been an avid otome game player since 2016, but didn't play my real first otome game until 2017 when I bought myself a PS Vita and I've been in otome hell since and have also dragged a couple of friends into otome game hell with me with no remorse as they must now suffer with me lmao.

As for Orlok, I was happy that he finally got the kiss CG he deserved, but I do wish his route would've had more focus on his and Lili's relationship, since they could barely get a moment of peace.
My friend now has a huge backlog since they've only started playing otome games this year.

Actually, otome games already have many spelling errors at the time of the Japanese product version. Mistakes in kanji conversion, etc. Otome game production companies, unlike Nintendo, are often small companies, so they often don't check spelling properly.
PS. In the official popularity poll for Pio Fiore in Japan, Dante was first, Yang was second, Orlock was third, and Nicola was fourth. I love Orlock!

I feel like the weird otome fan cause I have hundreds of otome games on Bluestacks and pc, a few on some consoles like my DS, basically no merchandise (just a keychain I found for Ayato from Diabolik Lovers at an anime store), I pretty much don't speak a lick of Japanese (but use Google translate's phone quick convert on my pc screen), I'm an older married Asexual woman who notices the red flags in plots (*cough* Toma in Amnesia *cough*) and doesn't really like Hakuoki, but will try most all visual novels unless it's absolutely despicable like that one where you can date a 9 year old boy... otherwise, everything else applies here to me.

The problem is that my choices seem to affect the story in ways that don't make much sense to me.

That is the reason why I haven`t played otome in over 2 years..... Recycled routes, same old character archetypes and the damn bland protagonist presentation technique. Still like the format but the mainstream of the media does not work for me any more.

@@LinLinLavender the whole "wanting every side character/bad guy/background character to get route/side story. I got introduced to Otome with "Star-crossed Myth" by Voltage. I even stuck with that weird 365 app thing and bought every story etc. *and all I wanted (and still want) IS THE KING OF THE HEAVENS!!! Story*. He's so imperious, tricky, and hot. I haven't checked in a while, maybe I'll look and see if they've done it yet. Also Corvus and his weird lizard guy and the evil king. Literally every bad guy in every otome I want a route for lol.

Tbrh. I find the side characters in otome games to be much more appealing/interesting choices, and if anything, a better match than the actual main dudes of any given otome game I've come across in terms of personality. Like *cough* KBTBB *cough.* Holy moly are the main guys in that game terrible...
P.S.
I mean... If an otome game is giving players choices, might as well give us choices for side characters that they took the time 'n effort in MAKING them for the story. One can always dream, right? All I wish is to dream again...
