'Who are you to judge god' is particularly funny because in order to think a god is *good* you have to pass judgement on it as much as someone who thinks it's evil
The argument is God wouldn't do it that way so God doesn't exist or nature did it. The whole assumption is the person, a finite being, knows exactly what God would and wouldn't do. This argument what God would or wouldn't do is very ancient.

“If god real why bad thing happen” I will tell you what, innocent children who are victims of not God but MAN, or demonic powers, will have eternity with God and peace with him and that is a very good thing. Brandon, I am currently on month one of my deconversion and I am so thankful for your channel. I would love a raw, honest breakdown of how you handled deconverting mentally and emotionally. It's been really hard because I was a Christian for 17 years, and went to god for everything. My problem is I realized that the only thing that kept me clinging to this religion was fear. I never felt "the love of God". I was always subconsciously afraid of him. Afraid of punishment, the devil having "access" when I made mistakes, so many things. But it's been really hard knowing how to walk away from this and what to currently cling to as I have no spouse or anyone to really talk to about it because most of the people in my life are Christians. If you ever have time to have a conversation it would mean so much to me. The mental gymnastics of Christianity, the constant confusion and fear, never really being able to truly trust and believe god is actually good, and looking at the pain I begged for help for throughout my life and absolutely no relief is what brought me here. Thanks again.
So glad to hear about your journey and my help in it. I know it is so very difficult. As a result of that, I feel like I am going through a metamorphesis in my spiritual life right now. I have to tell you that I have never felt like this before and, if I could describe it, I would have to say that it's one of the most, if not the most, disconcerting feelings I have ever experienced before. It's not pleasant, but at the same time, it's like a veil is being lifted - not from my face but from my mind. It's very uncomfortable at this point, but the truth is never comfortable to hear. THIS video, even above all of your others, encapsulates the entire picture of the controversy of biblical scripture insofar as the God "of the bible" is concerned. I am beginning to take the position that there is indeed a God who rules over mankind, but not the God of the bible. At the conclusion of this video, I asked myself "what if there is a one true God and he or she is exactly what we believe he or she would ideally be, but we attribute that God to have all of the negative characteristics you mentioned here?" Could it be that we (or the original writers if the bible) have blasphemed the one true God by describing him or her in such a negative way, and then spread this message over that entire myriad of years??? My "mindshift" has gone into overdrive. Please keep up your work, but I will need to take some rest breaks to bring my gear shift back into neutral at times.
You may be interested in gnosticism, which posits that we were created by a different god than the one described in the Bible, and acknowledges that the Biblical god is a cruel, narcissistic thing that should not be worshipped like he wants. As a kid, my aspiration for the world - actually, the universe - was a Star Trek utopia. In this utopia, all the material and resource concerns for planet Earth would be resolved, thus freeing us to explore the rest of the universe. We would not explore the universe for the sake of conquest, but for the sake of exploration and the knowledge we could collect. If we came across a hostile civilization, like the Klingons, our first resort would not be "blast 'em to kingdom come," but to use reason and compassion for the sake of common ground. As the "god" of this universe, I would have the human race, and every other intelligent species meet as fellow pilgrims, allies, and dare I say, friends, in a grand voyage through creation. Sad I am to say, this Star Trek utopia has been shouldered aside with designs to make this country into Gilead from "A Handmaid's Tale" or a savage wasteland of scarcity like in the Mad Max movies. However, to quote Roger Waters, "If I had been God," I would opt for a grand, intergalactic, pilgrimage of discovery.
@DrakeTimbershaft Probably one of the best forms of sovereignty I've heard that actually legitimately sounds better then gods sovereignty in the bible. It's also interesting to note that you said discovery cause it's always bothered me that the bible tends to highlight that obedience or faith is more important then discovery or even reason or compassion, even though discovery, reason, and compassion tends to bring more progress and wisdom then obedience does. Many Christians may argue that without complete obedience to God's authority, there would be no love, reason, or compassion towards a better morality, yet ive seen plenty of examples where even the most stubborn hard hearted skeptics, such as mindshift, who have displayed empathetic compassion toward humans. Rich people can be weird. I am certain at least one urban developer intended their skyscraper to be a sequel to the one from babel with the explicit purpose of accessing heaven.
We're flying airplanes. Successfully. Now they're mostly transport but I'm quite sure when we just started out that had something to do with reaching heavens. I was crying when I flew first time. I reached heaven and there was no god.
Why create humanity? Why do I (as a deity) desire worship? Why create the Tree of Knowledge if I (as a deity) do not want humanity to possess that knowledge? Why give humanity "free will" if you don't want them to use it? Why give my servants (angels) free will if their only job is to do my bidding, already knowing that one-third will rebel, particularly since I (as a deity) have this knowledge beforehand? The list goes on and on and on.
Even more fundamentally to point 3...Why would I NOT want Adam and Eve to eat of the tree of knowledge and so learn good from evil? Unless of course Yahweh is evil and doesn't want his creations to know that, of course.
Typically used to describe feeling cheated or disadvantaged, “gypped” is actually a reference to the term “gypsy” an offensive term used to inaccurately refer to the Romani people.
Like to "Jew down" or "Indian giver" or "niggard" (which is a middle English word but picked up usage in the mid 19th Century for reasons we can infer).

I love bringing this one up. Humans lack just one enzyme to biosynthetize ascorbic acid by themselves, like dogs and cats. L-gulonolactone oxidase... We actually do have it but in its non-functional form. But almost whole pathway is there, except for the very final step, because of this single functional component missing, which ultimately has caused millions of people to die of scurvy. If this was made by an "intelligent" designer, he is either incompetent or has a very nasty sense of humor. Or maybe he deactivated this enzyme because long ago two people ate a fruit, lol.
I like to point out that our retinas are installed backwards with absolutely no reason for it to be that way other than a fluke of chance that our branch of the evolutionary tree of life got stuck with and had to make work.
The very first “don’t create anything” option deserves more than a passing mention. We’re talking about a God Who is perfect in knowledge, power, morality and judgement. This God, all alone… is perfect. This God thought it would be MORE perfect to create imperfection. This unchanging God chose in favor of the existence of imperfection… and against perfection. How do we know it’s imperfect? Because God Himself condemns it. God is in favor of that which God condemns… in His perfect wisdom. Next.. maybe DON’T put the serpent or the tree in the garden?

3:52 what I love at the start of this video is the acknowledgement of the Christian mashup of the Ancient Greek philosophical tradition of the idea of “ perfection” with the ancient Israelite ideas of YHWH. They are in tension and contradict. If perfection means this being cannot change or lacks for nothing, then the idea of a creator or regretting does not make sense for this “ perfect” being.
Some of these alternatives seem so laughably easy to come up with that it's comical when you see people act like their all-powerful god couldn't do anything differently. And sometimes the same people will have the most prolific imagination when it comes to making excuses for the inconsistencies in their book smh. Incredible
I always thought that being given only two choices, heaven or hell and one life in which to get it right was a terrible plan. To make matters worse, you can be the most moral Muslim, Jew, Hindu, atheist etc. and still go to hell all based on being born in the wrong country to the wrong parents. On the other hand you can be a Nazi mass murderer or a murdering career criminal and as long as you make Jesus your BFF and tell him you are sorry you will go to heaven. (What I have always found really revolting is the victims of these terrible people went to hell if they were not Christians or were not the right kind of Christian. Also, what if the family members of the victims become the proper kind of Christians? They will then be in heaven with the person that put their loved ones in hell.) This is the best plan an all powerful, all knowing being can come up with? I have heard it said that God wont allow sin in his presence. Fine, then have more than one of two places where people can go to fix their shortcomings. Or, allow reincarnation so people have more than one chance to "get right with God" and send them back to Earth as often as necessary to achieve that goal.
These are things that I bring up to Christians when they try to preach to me. I then ask them that even if God were real why would I ever want to worship him with all those shortcomings?
What if we think of the forbidden fruit as a door or as a way out... Ignorance is bliss they say so would you choose to wake up from the matrix or stay there forever?

Hi Brandon. Such a thoughtful video. I’ve questioned why god wouldn’t have done better every single day of my life. Being an empath, the observing and feeling of the world’s suffering is beyond comprehensible. Now I find myself not questioning god, but just not believing there could be such a god and I’m feeling the loss. What we’ve been told since childhood is not to question and just have faith, however a critical thinking adult needs more than that. Something that I do find fascinating and would love to know your views on are the near death experiences people claim to have and now the new phenomena of pre birth memories. It all seems beyond belief, yet also something to ponder. Thanks so much for what you do.

Step 3: if I decide to write a book to explain myself, I’d write it myself instead of picking such a motley crew of ignoramuses.

20:19 wow, when i was christian i used to weep over this. after years and years of feeling like i just couldn’t be one of the perfect christian’s that you see at church, school, and online. the ones that would love to tell of how god speaks to them, calms them & leads them. the ones that he put in the bible, the ones that really seemed chosen. as i kept failing the expectations he sets forth in the bible, i would think, did god just make me to be an example? what if i’m not one of the “chosen” few and im just an example for god to use. as a child i would pray, in tears, asking him if i would just end up being an example at the end of my life. i still tried to rationalize this, i would thank him for my life anyways because although im damned to an eternity of torture, at least my life served a purpose in his “perfect” plan. i was told that there are people who will get into heaven last minute, last few hours of their lives, confess, believe, and live eternally in heaven. i begged for god to take away my mental capacity & my free will, anything that needed to go in order for me to be a good servant. it made me so upset, i will have spent my whole life trying my very best for god, only for it to not matter cause i was only made to be set as an example for others. bow to him at the end of my life and still be cast down. it’s one of the reasons i almost ended my life, what’s the point of doing all this only to end up in hell, why not just skip to the inevitable? btw this channel is awesome, the title/thumbnail really hooked me and made me laugh, i like that you don’t just go for the easy reasons that most people do, even though they are glaringly obvious, but you have that perspective of wanting to rationalize all gods actions. finding flaws elsewhere that don’t get brought up is quite creative

To me, the god of the bible feels like the kid who snuck onto his brother's pc to play that cool sim game he saw, skipped the tutorial, and can't accept that maybe he is just bad at the game. Something doesn't go how he imagined it would? Blame it on the characters, they messed it up. I have certainly been asked, "who are you to judge God?". I would ask those people, "Who are you to not judge God?". There are consequences to putting extreme trust and worship into a being, and if you only have faith to tell me that God is good, who are you to tell me you don't follow a monster? You can't tell me not to judge God without entailing following him not being important.

If I can get a sin nature just by becoming, why couldn't I have a love nature instead? Why is sin reflexive, but love must be externally mandated? 'Nother small god problem .....

Sixty-five year old christian here, having been baptized into THE Lord's church, the Church of Christ, over 40 years ago, and having listened to and digested the vast majority of your videos within the last three months find myself experiencing the "mindshift" referred to in your channel name.
So too for me, I am 69 years old and have been a serious Bible-studying Christian for the last 51 of those.

Most Christians ultimately believe in a truly loving god who wants to reach out to them, and it's still possible that the real god you envision is true, it's just something you have to choose over what's written about them in a book.

There was an interesting video I watched on the great educator Noam Chomsky who said something so profound about education and further learning that blew my mind. I’ve always had issues with Christians saying man can work together, but god was supposedly the one who scrambled the languages specifically to make man not work together.
But I never thought about the fact that we’ve made structures that are taller than the Tower of Babel and god hasn’t interfered again.
We are told the tower was built to reach "heaven" without God." I don't think any skyscrapers were/are built for that purpose. I've had a problem with the "Tower" of Babel for decades. The longer I live, the screwier the Bibe becomes.

Better yet, leave the serpent in the garden...just do put the god there.
@@exoplanet11 Well, God DID put His omnipresent self there… but only occasionally… not omnipresently. God was playing with His food when he judged it moral for Him, as an omniscient being, to ask “Where are you? Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” as if He was a fallible human who needed to get a confession from a suspect in order to get a conviction… as if He didn’t know that He was omniscient:
Sorry, God. We stupid humans have accepted Your claims of omniscience…, and because of Your claims, many of us consider you undeniably illogical and fictional.

I think the fact that this god needs us to obey him and follow rules, just to not go to a hell…is disgusting. It’s sick. So manipulative. And you would think if god truly knew us, then he probably would have known to not create that place in the first place because he would know it would cause trauma and religious trauma, mental issues. But nope he apparently doesn’t care
Well said. It appears he created mankind just to play a sick and dangerous car-and-mouse with us in a game of seeing who would choose to love him.
100%!
God should prove that he exists but not tell us about hell, if he’s worried about us being free to not follow. Tell us what to do but there’s no consequences for not doing it. There’s tons of Christians who are scared of hell and they can’t figure out if they’re believing the right way. That’s not free choice either.

Exactly, but atheist people like us already know the biblical God in the bible is fake. There won't be any proof anyway until we die
Exactly. When one is coerced, they don't have free will. it's the Godfather "An offer you can't refuse"
God said to himself: "I will create imperfect beings and give them free will. I will intervene here and there to confuse them even more and enjoy watching the chaos."
Incredible
You said it!
Brilliant comment! Very well said.
These are things that I bring up to Christians when they try to preach to me. I then ask them that even if God were real why would I ever want to worship him with all those shortcomings?
Yep. No forbidden fruit in my garden of Eden. Crisis averted. Everything perfect forever. You're welcome.
What if we think of the forbidden fruit as a door or as a way out... Ignorance is bliss they say so would you choose to wake up from the matrix or stay there forever?
Yahweh sees the snake he just made in front of Adam and yeets it to the moon where it can't cause problems.
@@jorkmv2933 Stay in the Matrix! The real world sucked in those movies and honestly didn't look like it could really support human life all that well.

"Well God can't do that because--"
"Okay, we he's not God then"
Yes. It is this simple!
It depends, necessity is necessity and God can go against necessity because it is nonsense. Philosophicaly speaking. Of course Christianity can still be false but even if it is, it is still coherent to say that an omnipotent God can't do certain things

Omnipotent means having unlimited power
@@drsatan9617 No that's not how omnipotent has been traditionally defined and "unlimited power" is pretty vague. It is said that God can't contradict his own nature ( he does not have the power to) the same as he does not have the power to make a square circle.

Thanks for this!

Step 3: if I decide to write a book to explain myself, I’d write it myself instead of picking such a motley crew of ignoramuses.

I believe you would be surprised what you would actually do with His wisdom
@@warriorofthelord4142 he hasn’t actually demonstrated any wisdom. If people were committing sin back before the flood wouldn't that mean that god was as inept back then as he is now? I think christians need to invent a better god!
29:00 You bring up a good point about Jesus' blood covering everyone, regardless if we know about him or understand what took place. This is where I see lack of unconditional love. Lack of "Grace"..If he was truly unconditional in his love for his creation, he wouldn't blame them for screwing up then making the path to salvation something horrendous before being able to enjoy his love and presence. that's like me blaming my 4 year old daughter for being a child and making her jump through a hoop before I forgive her and continue showing my affection and protection. It requires a level of heartlessness and sadism when you're omniscient.
right. As flawed as I am I'm a far better and loving parent that this god. To any driven by love and an innate moral sense, the massive shortcomings of Yahweh are obvious.

Out of all animals you chose horses. OK, this may solve the obstetric dilemma, but standing on 2 and having hands opens the way for so many nice things. Maybe adjust the laws of physics so hooves are somewhat magnetic.
I also wonder how life would work if one always feels something, with no moment of boredom.
@@EnriqueLaberintico I chose horses specifically because they have no hands. No hands means no building tools, no creating anything. All they can do is run, frolic, fornicate and eat and drink to their merry contentment. Just eternal bliss with nothing to get in their way.

The god of the bible is just a coder who built up a videogame to amuse himself. Or a tv show runner.
