Italy - check out Le Marche Region. Central Italy. Very similar to Tuscany and Umbria. Very affordable, outstanding food, kind people. We can rent a 3br apartment in town for 800 euros/month (12 mos rental). Some great cities: Ancona, Jesi, Pesaro, Macerata, Recanati, Fermo, Ascoli Piceno...so many more

I'm Cypriot and I can confirm that Cyprus is indeed a great destination to retire on a budget.
On top of that, you get one of the best climates in the world, amazing food and produce, and most importantly, friendly people.

@@VagabondAwake Dan I am living here in Cyprus since 16 years (and by the way I have a family with a Filipina and kids. So we love to follow your Videos especially about the Philippines). Cyprus have two faces. You can live very expensive here but you can come along with 1.500€ if you know the right places and also go to rural areas which sometimes also have the best nature and beaches to offer. Then you have to see North Cyprus. The occupied part and the south part. If you perpare correct you get a Studio / One bed room for 500€ and if you do live with the great vegetables and fruits here you can get this to affordable prices, when you know the places. Is same like you describe in your videos some timea. The tomatos in the tourist area cost a few dollar and if you got around the corner where the locals go you buy them for Cents. Also Restaurants of course you can spend a lot in the bis cities and touristic areas but you also can have affordable meal where the locals go out. If you have any further questions about Cyprus please free to contact me anytime. Safe travel and keep up the great work. Thanks

Wouldn't want to live on that small of a touristy place but a coworker now was just working in Crete for the last 10 years and said he rented an apartment on the beach for 450 euro. We are retiring in the next year or two and looking for the best place for us.

Morocco is, oddly enough, located between most of Europe, especially Spain and Portugal, and S. America. Even though clearly not a part of either Europe or South America, a stop in Morocco would not be far out of their way and perhaps of some interest to their audience.

I love your content, Dan. As you've mentioned, it's important for presenters like you to get your feet on the ground and then for viewers to do the same before moving. When I first started researching 3 years ago, I encountered several channels that simply uploaded and strung together video clips from the Tourist Boards of various countries, with no real info for those thinking of relocating. They never went there or researched real costs. Each country was better than the last, and had no downsides! Even the voiceovers sounded like low-budget AI voices. Those were essentially worthless videos. You two are providing an excellent ongoing service.
I'm eager to hear about your European visits. I'm guessing that Bulgaria will be the lowest cost, but I've never been to the region. I'm wondering how the countries compare in terms of pollution, crime, language difficulties, and how locals interact with you. Thanks for the content!

I was surprised to find how affordable Valencia, Spain was. Barcelona not so much, and Madrid was doable, but not like Valencia. I'm definitely most interested in what you guys find out about Greece and Italy .. but hope you'll also consider Valencia, or maybe other parts of Spain. I've heard good things about Portugal, but also heard learning Portuguese is difficult and that the visa process is a pain. All in all .. yes, what countries are most affordable? .. but also, how long is traveling allowed without a visa? .. and if people really do decide they'd like to live in a city, how easy or difficult is it to call a place home, given the visa or residency process? Thanks, guys! Have fun! :)

I would love to see you investigate France. Unlike most of these other countries you have been, France has an easy long term visa and path to dual citizenship. And best of all a great tax treaty with usa. I'm just not sure about the actual cost of living in the different cities there.

Maybe you can find a nice area which is along a train line or something like this? I'd be curious to see what you find, how low you can get costs there. Certainly the tax treaty and visa will be a huge savings when looking at total cost to live long term.

Albania. Once the most isolated and paranoid country in the world. Its only ally was North Korea. Now it’s thriving.
My only concern is these places like Albania and Georgia become Californicated and thus become exclusive and unaffordable for the majority of people.

Be different than every UA-camr who has visited Albania. I don't think that any of them has put his finger on the pulse of the country. To actually feel their history, read a book or two of their most celebrated author, Ismail Kadare. (The big bookstore on the main city square in Tirana has them all.) I recommend Chronicle in Stone, about growing up in Gjirokaster during WWII; The Siege, which will blow your mind, informing you about what fighting the Ottomans was like; and Broken April, about blood feuds and honor in the highlands (you won't believe the never ending quality of their rules). These are easy reads, but they will permanently affect how you see the country (filling you with compassion).
While you're in Albania, you'll go next door to my favorite body of water, Lake Ohrid, and its beautiful town, Ohrid. Its history is also fascinating.
