I like the old mercury lights! Especially the day burners for some reason
why?
What is dayburning?
@@Organham4903when the photocell goes out and the bulb just stays on for many years
@@agcxdI have no idea
These were the ones used in my community here in Jamaica as well as the M400s but now they have been replaced by LEDs in 2017
This streetlight was very popular in Philadelphia.
Nice fixture! Detroit currently has tons of the boxier m250A2s in mercury vapor still in service. Hopefully I can obtain one someday. Getting a fixture thats nostalgic is kinda cool.
Awesome, I also hope you are able to save one!
The predecessor to the M250A2 was the M150, It has a more flat face than the A2.
I agree, i love the startup and color of these lights
My town has 0 High Pressure Sodium street lights. Some of the parking lots still have them. I know that the Food Basics parking lot behind my house has two Mercury Vapor lights. An old high school in my town had Mercury vapor street lights but they were also replaced with LED lights. LED street lights in a way are boring because they don't really do much. These Sodium lights have a nice warm up when they first turn on.
One day in my nighbhorhood the hps street lights were replaced with LEDs that turn on too early and I hate them so bad
In terms of efficiency at 120 lumens per watt HPS is very efficient… when they switch to LED fixtures the wattage is always less and supposedly the output the same due to less light dispersion.
A very cool looking hps street light!!
It's always interesting to see those refractor units up close. The design looks much more thoughtful than any of the clear-lens LED garbage made in the past 10 years. Does a great job of preventing the light from being 1 tiny dot of blinding glare.
I prefer HPS over LED streetlights
Same
The predescessor to the M250A2 was the Ge M150
That's a nice HPS fixture
Indeed!
Chicago got rid of all there high pressure sodium vapor lights for led hate the new led
5:55 yes same 😢 the LED just don’t have the hue HPS had, and riding my bike at night, at least half of the areas I cover are converted which sucks. Although, and I know I’m a sucker for old fixtures, LED does throw better hue and colour rendering than MV ones, and when they age, the colours mismatch. So that’s about all they got going for ‘em.
Know the old street lights (real old) that looked like a dinner plate with an incandescent bulb in the middle?
My old town had ONE of those remaining in a very odd spot up till about 6y ago. I was always amazed to see it.
I live in Philadelphia and we have ge m250a2 street light in HPS everywhere and i got one not to long ago
These are similar to the streetlights in the older parts in my neighborhood, but I suspect they are M150s, since they are 100W HPS and they are a bit smaller and more squared off. They’re likely from the 1980s or early ‘90s.
We have alot still in Ohio especially in small towns you go into. It’s one of my favorite street lights. Also i have a HMST HOLOPHANE high mast luminarie and wanted to know how do you make them work with a power cord. Do you do it yourself connecting the wires or get a electrician to do it?
I have a low pressure sodium I believe dated from the 80s.
Interesting vid.
That's a very 'rudimentary' ballast. Just kind of exposed - no casing or potting compound to protect it. Same for the ignitor.
I notice also there is no power factor capacitor present, something I've noticed in a lot of HID circuits in the US. How is the pf minimised, or is it just a very efficient ballast?
I agree with you high pressure is better then LeD
I want to get a GE Cobrahead streetlight for the backyard, east to convert to 110v? I wanted one as a kid in my backyard, now I need to make good on that!
Is this model larger or the same size as the General Electric M-250R2? Im trying to recreate it on my video game
I got the same street light but mine is 250w hps with a glass refractor and I got 3 for 25$ at a salvage shop one has a bad photocell socket but the other ones have good quality photocell sockets
Awesome finds!
i seen these M250A2 with cutout lens that still there working BTW the Philips I think it the road focus
What do the neighbors think of all the lights in the yard?
We have one right outside my college that has been cycling for many years
Cycling is fun to watch if you ask me.
@@kingofthecarwashes6724 Yeah it is
Are these streetlights safe to have in your home?
There's lots of these scattered around Southern CA
Es genial 🙌🏼
What does the 15 on the door mean is that the watts like for example if says 25 on the door does it mean 250w
Indeed, the 15 on the door is for 150watts. Additionally, the sticker was yellow at one point meaning it is high pressure sodium.
Thay did the same with the light out side our house and i was able to get it it is a nema style light.
Are you selling any high pressure sodium street lights on eBay ?
LED lights suck
I hate those type of color lights, hade to many of them in NYC, kind of orange reddish color lights, to city like, I prefer the blue white lights that the suburbs had, and the ones that are literally orange, but this one, to city like, hate it.
