They revived the series as Backyard Sports, to try to distance themselves from the original licensed games. Like Backyard Football had the NFL license. Backyard Baseball had the MLB License, and I think they did Backyard Hockey with the NHL License too. Backyard Sports was the generic version of the 'league'

Tom adamo life so fas a kid he played back yard football but loss to pablo Sanchez and was forced to hide forever he begin enrolling as an engineer bu then was given a shot with will Horton at UGF he was then selected by the Indianapolis colts then was traded to the raiders wher he made in the hof and best fullback ever.

One reason you see so many differences is probably due to the fact that the original company that made these (Humongous entertainment) was bought by a couple of larger companies around 2009-2012.
98 was good, but backyard football 2002 (Drew Bledsoe on the cover) was the better version imo. had many more pros and the stats weren't just out of 4 like in the 98 version. the version on the Gamecube (Mcnabb on the cover) was also not bad nor was the 2006 version (Dante Culpepper on the cover) on the computer. Unfortunately, the 06 one was the last fun one imo (I prob just aged out at that point tbh) but I miss those games. Shoutouts Vicki Kawaguchi, GOAT WR. I cannot be convinced otherwise
For '02, certainly. Jerry Rice was ever so slightly better in the original, but I'd usually hire both of them to keep my options open.

Have a pretty interesting story with this game. When I was 7, I went to this really big church and we played this all day. 2 years later, I go to an after school program and play the original like 2001 backyard football on a pc and....I fell in love with it

you should make a series where football programs “hire” you to turn their franchises around. then u get like 3 seasons to win the chip. still can get deep into it for like a couple months but not too long where it gets stale :)

Humongous Entertainment, who made the original series, stopped making Backyard Sports, or well, all games, after early 2006 as that's when the company was shut down. The series was rebooted twice and these were some of the last games that were released in the series.

For what it’s worth I dig the art style. It’s got the classic 2000s Saturday morning cartoon look, similar to Danny phantom and Kim Possible, but they should have made it a new series rather than rebooting a beloved franchise

The reason why the game was renamed Backyard Sports is because they have a baseball version of the same game and players.
