For the inevitable Hutchinson vs. Thibodeaux arguments, here's how I see it:
Thibodeaux: Rare explosiveness, supreme athlete, excellent length, potentially ridiculous versatility (anywhere from IDL to MIKE, depending on scheme/game situation. Think Jamie Collins but with A-level pass rush). On the other hand, he's still pretty raw, requires a lot of projection. Run defense is only average right now. Might not fit every scheme due to tweener frame. Generally good effort, but also takes some plays off.
Hutchinson: Ridiculous strength/power. Great length. High-end athleticism, but traits don't scream top-five pick the way you would expect from a top-rated edge rusher. Technically sound in the run game. Already a great pass-rush toolbox, with more room to grow. Intelligent player, will become even more savvy as a pro. Elite leadership traits. Maximum effort on an every-down basis. Makes plays he shouldn't due to effort. Winner. If he stays healthy, he will not fail.
Thibodeaux's ceiling = Position versatile game-wrecker who could easily be the top player on a good NFL defense
Thibodeaux's floor = Never finds a position, fails to develop technique. Rotational pass-rusher who gets 20-40% snaps on an average NFL defense.
Hutchinson's ceiling = Top-5 NFL defensive end, double-digit sack guy; top 1-2 guy on a good NFL defense
Hutchinson's floor = Lacks the elite athletic traits to become a game-changer. Solid, technically sound end in either 3 or 4 man front. Starting play-side DE on an average NFL defense who never gets more than 7 sacks in a season.
Bottom Line: Thibodeaux's traits and production would put him in the top-10 draft conversation any year. Hutchinson's ceiling is lower but still high, and that combined with his production and overall polish make him a top-15 prospect in any given year. In this year's class, which lacks game-changing talent at other premium positions (i.e. QB), both these guys will easily be in the conversation for a top-5 pick. While I think there is a greater than 50% chance that Hutchinson has the better pro career of the two (intangibles, easier projection), you have to swing for the fences at the top of the draft. He just doesn't have the kind of rare traits you look for in a top-2 pick. Thibodeaux does. Will be fascinating to see where both of these guys land.
Excellent breakdown. I see this being a close debate between Hutchinson (high floor) vs Thibodeaux (high ceiling). Happy either way with these two draft prospects.
This is exactly my thinking as well, beautifully put. High ceiling vs high floor is definitely the way to look at these 2
Thib scares me he hasent seemed to be able to develop a ton at the college level. He had 9 sacks in his freshman campaign and 6 this year. In the biggest games of his career he kinda falls apart. Also he hardly ever can win a 1 on 1 with a tackle in time to get to the QB, unless they are moving towards him or holding for way to long. He will have like 1 play that looks amazing a game but that’s it the rest he will just kinda be there
I fully disagree with this. You’re the type to choose a car based on looks and never bothered to pop open the hood to see what’s in it
@@misterceo2168 I don't know what you mean by this. Presumably that I didn't watch the tape? I studied two games for each of these players to inform these notes (Thibodeaux vs. Washington this year and vs. USC last year. Hutchinson vs. Penn State and OSU this year). Full disclosure that I am a Michigan fan so by virtue of that I am more familiar with Hutchinson's game than Thibodeaux's.
Of course everyone is welcome to have differing opinions, but perhaps you could offer a constructive take on the comparison, rather than remarking on what "type" of person another stranger on the internet is?
He was getting held like mad and still destroyed the game.
it looked like he got held on every sack he made lmfao
And he still gets held every game now and still puts in work lol

This combination of extremely polished and refined skillset of pass-rush moves along with his constant down to down motor is a very rare and special thing. In my opinion his coachability and constant improvement season by season makes him a more complete prospect than KT despite KT's advantage in regards to athletic upside (Hutch is elite athletically as well.) The competition Hutch has gone up against this season with the offensive lineman he's faced is significantly higher than what KT faced (had he played in the OSU game this would be a moot point) while also dominating every opponents best offensive lineman every week to the point where even OSU had no choice but attempt something different and move their first-round caliber guard to replace their first-round caliber tackle (Hutch had completely demoralized and took over his head as the tackle ended up accounting for half of OSU's penalties) and it absolutely didn't help. Hutch almost immediately proceeded to put that first-round caliber guard in Thayer Munford and put him on his highlight reel and it broke OSU's will and I can't remember a single player who completely destroyed any confidence in an entire offensive/defensive unit like Hutchinson and Hassan Haskins did but it was glorious.
Are we watching the same guy?
@@MCA2A you ain't watching you typical bucknut clown
The sacks are amazing but the absolute dominance at 10:04 is awesome.
wow i dident even see that
Dudes not that good
@@MCA2A you ain't that smart..
He's the first off the ball every snap. Plays with incredible speed and motor.
10:04 absolutely disrespectful 😂😂
That was beautiful
Ok boys. Best Hutch play of the game. 10:04
I've been looking for this clip. Agreed!
For real put the tackle on his ass so quick.
First half I was like people really think this dude is that good? Actually went to comments to see if I was missing something. Felt he was non factor in run game (altho never ran his side), could have chased better on 2-3 plays, pressure was okay, and his sack was only real solid play.
Then that second half. Holy hell. He won every single rep except for a run vs RT. He was an absolute menace mixing up pass rush moves to constantly get pressure. Didn’t matter who was in front of him. He dominated EVERY play. Even that TD over his head, he recognized well and almost had a PD/Int.
I noticed the lack of pursuit also
Absolutely dominated. Incredible player
Great work editing and thanks for sharing! Young man had a unforgettable season for Meeeeechigan💯🙌
Thanks, I appreciate it
Detroit we here
Ya baby!!
David Ojabo is a beast too looked great this game
With the #1 pick the Detroit Lions select Aidan Hutchinson
NOOOOOOOOOOO!
Might be able to get him at #2 or 3 if they have a good December
Why do you hate Aidan?
I really think hes a better prospect that Kavyon Thibedoux
Lower ceiling, probably higher floor
How many sacks for KT this year?
Definitely disagree, I believe Thinedoux is an absolute hit who has a higher ceiling and higher floor. Thibedoux motor is so much higher and just does everything better.
Hutch just added to his trophy room, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
@@kmfiz literally half of what Hutchinson has. 6 for Kayvon 13 for Aiden
Aidan Hutchinson play style reminds me a lot of joey bosa but his technique is not at joey bosa’s level when coming out. Idk if any prospect coming out was as refine as joey bosa, but Aidan still shows great technique. When it comes to his stature, he reminds me of a slightly smaller deforest buckner or a bigger jared allen. The only thing that worries me is his explosiveness is average at best. Buckner had the same issue but he plays DT. You can get away with it at DT if you are strong and have long arms. I feel like the Combine will determine whether Hutchinson goes number 1 or not. The 10 yard split, vertical and broad jump will answer those explosiveness questions. If aiden answers those questions and his 3-cone time is in the 6.7s -6.9s range and look out NFL! this man will be a menace.
Had some LOFs but he has great effort. Best pass rush is power and with inside moves.
He has a great motor. Sometimes needs to get disengaged more. Puts pressure in pocket consistently. Does not quite have that elite LT or Reggie White athletic ability. Good run defender. OSU ran away from him.
Makes big plays when it matters. A first round grade. Right now, I would take Thibedoux and Kyle Hamilton ahead of him on defense. Debatable with Ken Singletary Jr.
A top 10 pick for sure.
lowered nicholas petit frere’s draft stock by himself lmao and solidified himself in the top 5 if not top 3 come april
Listen I love this kid I will follow him tru out his nfl career but don’t over look ojabo that guys a beast too love them both but hutch is the man loved his father too it’s like watching him all over again retire 97 that’s the hutch family s number they all went to school there go blue
If I hear “Stroud” one more time
He is a beast
The run fits are what always impress me. Despite getting after the QB constantly he is rarely out of position on a run fit. Always reading his keys and rarely overpursuing
Stroud had to get rid of the ball instantly on every play due to the fact that he knew this kid was coming every play.. He hit him. He rushed him. He shoved his teammates into him. He made lineman and RBs look like children in this clip most of the second half. Yes he lacks speed for an NFL elite edge guy.. But I think many are mistaking him for a LB because he is always standing up. He is not a LB.. He is a DE who likes being up rather than down on the line. He causes chaos for every offense he faces and Georgia and Bama will be no exception.
Yes, Im calling it.. They will beat Georgia. Everyone seems to be worried about how Michigan will run and score on Georgia.. I think they really need to be asking themselves.. How will Georgia score on Michigan?
Kudos to the young Stroud kid though.. Despite all that pressure he truly stayed very poised and had a great game. Most Freshmen QBs would have fallen apart by mid second quarter with that type of pressure.
The Ojabo kid is more of the speed rusher and could play more of the DE LB edge rusher in NFL.. Has a much better ability to chase down and keep up with RBs/TEs down field.
Just my opinions of course.
His motor is unreal. No one has a motor like that in the NFL. Maybe Myles Garrett or TJ Watt...
Lol so he’s a generational talent now?
@@jasonderby7635 I knew I’d find you all in the comments hating 😂😂😂 typical buckeye fan.. “so he’s generational now” sassy ass girl lol
@@jasonderby7635 you jealous
@@misterceo2168 sure, I’m jealous. Actually I’m from Florida so I don’t really have a dog in the race. I just saw PFF say this guy is the number 1 pick in the draft. So I looked up his highlights. I just thought the original comment was outlandish, to say that no one in the nfl has a motor like him.
@@jasonderby7635 he said maybe Myles Garrett or TJ Watt. And I agree the kid goes 100% every play. Just don’t understand why u feel the need to constantly hate on him
I would take him over Thibodeaux at this point. I think he's the stronger overall player. Both are really great but I think Hutchinson has the edge (lol) in NFL readiness and motor. If a team could manage to get both him and Ojabo they would set both edges for years.
He needs a couplers years(maybe 2) to develop. He easily gets bullied by the line in some plays. Check both Bosa bothers highlights and you can tell the difference between top picks. I’d take Ojabo over Hutchinson based on who will make an impact rookie year.
@@BabyHefner01 hutchinson is a *lot* better than ojabo. hes better at the pass rush and is better with his instinct.
@@BabyHefner01 your crazy ass hell he would get bullied iv seen he dump men 6"8 360 pounds on there ass like there children iv seen him eat almost 700 pounts of double blocks like its lunch but one person is gonna throw him out the club yeah sure 🤣🤣🤣 hes only gonna get bigger faster and stronger hes still a young man
@@BabyHefner01 lmao
Great get off, and hand movement. Your prototypical 3-4 Weakside/Speed Rusher.
Definitely the best tape I have seen of him so far, and he should have been given more holding calls. Showed great speed to power attacking the tackles in their kick-slide-drop, while using push/pull and arm-drag/rip moves when necessary (I don't know the technical terms for pass rush moves and line play). Has good agility to beat tackles with lateral movement and bend.
However, when the o-lineman was going forward on run plays he couldn't shed a block and looked weak, and he gave up in pursuit and when doubled teamed. NFL o-coordinators might attack him on run plays and just chip him when passing. I need to see more performances like this, before I am ready to buy into the top-5 draft hype. The tackles looked bad but have their own hype, so is Hutchinson really that excellent or was the left tackle over-hyped? Why isn't he this dominant against other tackles?
Hutchinson has continually done this all season long against multiple future NFL lineman. He is very good in the run game as well (metrics support this as he is the only player in the entire country with both 90%+ pass-rush and run defense grades) but when being double teamed a defensive lineman wants to make sure that extra blocker isn't able to get a hand on another defender so he tries to stay engaged to free up teammates so they have an easier time making a play. Rashan Gary was used as the anchor in Michigan's previous DC's system and his drawing of doubles (sometimes three blockers) is extremely important as it makes life so much easier for his teammates.
You clearly haven’t been paying attention to him all season. That’s fine btw not everyone has time to watch college football. But he’s way better than what you’re saying. And that ain’t no opinion.
@@bigboy3664 This actually is an example of an opinion. It's actually a second level opinion or opinion squared, since it's an opinion of another's opinion.
He had 14 sacks thats consistency
We need a rematch. Stroud vs Hutchinson, and there's only one way that happens this year. 💍 🏆

love the videos man
Love these videos man
And this is why I said I have him over KT Hutchinson reminds me of a bosa brother
Better than Thibodeaux to me
I think hutchinson has power, but can improve speed wise but can be polished. He's solid though
10:06 HOOOOLY MOLY!
watch him at 10:04
Aiden in the 2nd half terrorized both osu tackles..
He was much more productive against the left tackle. The sack he got against the right tackle was a coverage sack.
@@lw3969 typical hating loser.. how about the other sack ?? How about the 15 pressures!! Better prospect then nick ACL bosa..
How many snaps did he play?
I don't have PFF subscription to answer to you how many snaps he played in this game
"AiDeN DoEsNT dO wElL aGaInSt dOuBle TeAmS" 10:35
ohh really well maybe you should go and watch the iowa game that deffense was better then ohio states deffense all day long and he blew threw double coverage and iv seen 4 plays in this game alone he was still able to put pressure on the qb
He got 3 sacks which is impressive, but when you watch the tape .... 1 was a win... the other 2 were off a QB step up into the pocket. He disengages well. Is slower than all hell and looks stiff. He looks to win with power, has a little bit of pass rushing moves, no bend whatsoever and doesn't scream run stopper. The rb is still getting past him and gaining 3-4 yards. I honestly don't see what all the hype is about. Is he good? Yeah, he's solid..... definitely not taking him with the 1st pick though.
Lol OK scout master
Beast mode
This announcer just loves to start each play with the qbs name.
Reminds me of nick bosa
Strong and high motor player, but he doesn't have the natural bend of an elite DE and also needs to work on his rip technique in order to be successful at the next level.
He's aight. Aint Bosa though
first drive of the game i witnessed a lot of lazy play, it looked like they took him out on second and goal maybe because he was tired, maybe he was on the field and i didn’t see him, then he came off of a great rush from the edge to sack the qb on third, it was a beautiful play by him, i just hope to see that level of effort every down going forward
I don’t know man
Tbh with you he doesn’t have great bend and that concerns me. In the first half he didn’t chase the ball and played lazy but second half he took over. With that being said I am more impressed with Walker and jermaine Johnson tape tbh. Not hating on aiden but I don’t see him going number one. Maybe he will go either number 2 or 5
Hope he lands in Vegas
Show me the other "elite" pass rushers take over a game like this.
He reminds me of TJ Watt
Giants!!
I just hope the lions don’t draft him, for his sake lol
Aged like milk
It’s a good think Jacksonville didn’t draft him for his sake
@@jeremyanger8427 no thats just your upper lip you smell
This loser doesn’t know ball
Lol
i see a lot of complements about his motor, 1:10 he’s only 2 steps behind the back and instead of turning and trying to make a tackle down field, he stood straight up and gave up on the play, not something you want to see when a refined player like Kayvon thibodeaux is on the board, especially in a playoff like game like this
Lol for the 2 plays like this you’ll find 100 if you go wat Kayvons tape
kayvon doesnt have a single sack against a ranked opponent. Only 6 total, hutch has 12 against top talent. Hutch has 10 more tackles than kayvon on the year also.
Also on that particular play it looked like he was waiting for the cutback. He probably shouldn't have when Ojabo gave up contain a dozen times in this game though.
@@nallen1006 they have had it drilled in their heads that Kayvon will be the #1 pick since he was in high school. You’ll never win going against about 3 years of brainwashing
@@nallen1006 and the funny part is he skipped past the 3 sacks and 15 qb pressures to nit pick one play. 😂 Kayvon T has real life groupies
@@misterceo2168 Yeah major hype job happening with that kid.
Undersized, lackluster strength, takes plays off, poor pursuit on plays going away from him. Dudes an NFL bust in the making.
Wow
I agree
Lmaooooo good one. You should definitely be hired
I just don’t see it with him
He's disruptive no matter where he lines up or what the play is probably the most important aspect of being a defensive lineman
I see a 3rd round talent here.
Not that strong. Stiff hips. Lack change of direction in space. Good hand usage, good motor.
He got held a lot
I’m not seeing why he’s so great. 🤷♂️ he looks slow and nothing in this video is that impressive to be great.
Ohio state fan 😂😂😂
@@misterceo2168 not even close nice try though..
Im just not convinced...hear me out.
1. Too stiff and slow lacks explosiveness
2. Gives up on majority of the plays and gets beat by RB too many times
3. Lacks tools/ moves to beat tackle.
4. 2nd-3rd round grade
You’re not slick lol Suckeyes 42-27
Hutchinson is jersey #97 for Michigan, not jersey #95. Sounds like you are describing Donovan Jeter.
